It was always hard trying to get the stragglers out of the store. Saturday night Magic: The Gathering settings always ran over their allotted time. This was mostly due to her boss's participation in such tournaments. She got paid a little extra if she hung around and serviced everyone with drinks and snacks, and sometimes they even gave her tips if she wore extra nerdy shirts of fandoms she didn't particularly get into or cosplayed. The latter was usually held for special occasions, so today she was wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt that read "DOUBLE RAINBOW, OH EM GEE". She'd gotten a lot of comments about it, and some 'hardcore' geeks were saying it was so last month or whatever.
Whatever. She just rolled her eyes at them.
For the hundredth time, someone had attempted to show her how the game worked, but there were far too many numbers and colors involved and she just threw her hands up and decided it was better to just watch...which ended up in her not watching, because she had no idea what was happening. Instead, she just wandered around and watched people play with their heroclix. One even gave her one! She was playing with it right now. It wasn't a popular character, but it was something she could set atop the self above her computer at home between her anime action figures. She liked gifts and it was thoughtful. He'd gone into some whole meaning of the thing before she'd tuned him out. She was tuned out to most of the world at the moment too.
That was before she just started feeling a mixture of dread and excitement. It wasn't enough to make her speed up, but it prickled lightly at the back of her neck, like the edge of a dream. It was around then that she heard the shuffling in the alley. This would have been a great time to just keep walking, but she couldn't. The moment her eyes settled on the two grown men hassling some poor kid...or short person, she really couldn't tell at this distance, but she couldn't take that chance! No! She had to do something.
It was a lot easier saving kids from other kids on a playground than trying to save a kid from grown-ups in a dark back alley, but no one else was there to help him. She'd want someone to stop and help her too. Bunny wouldn't be able to sleep if she knew she could have done something but didn't!
Puffing herself up, she stalked into the alley with her shoulders square and her face hardened. "HEY! YOU LET HIM GO!" There was probably something she was forgetting right about then, but they'd been so startled, they'd actually let the kid go and he escaped. Unfortunately, that left all their attention on her, and they weren't too pleased. "Well, uhm, I'm gonna go now too...." She said smiling nervously, while backing away. That didn't work out too well as they decide to follow her.
They were closing in and she was starting to freak out. This had been a terrible idea. A terrible TERRIBLE idea. Throwing her purse at one to try and distract him and dart past. She found herself caught by the other, and you know, screamed bloody murder.
