[Sent Tuesday evening, after a day of resting restlessly.]

Hey Bat? [He pauses.] I know I'm probably not on the list to go to your next birthday party, but I've got something you'll want to be clued in on.

[Grim death replies.] Yes.

You haven't been taking your giggle pills, have you? [A pause as he clicks on his computer.] I got in touch with the Weatherman today, and he said something you'll want to hear. I'll spare you the whole thing, but the jist of it is he asked me what it was like to be alone. He waxed poetic on loneliness, then asked if anyone I've loved has run away from me. He then admitted that he wants to be feared, and now here's the gold.

[He pauses before reading.] I thought there was something worthwhile in humankind, something loyal, something at all. I was wrong. There is nothing. It is all just dirt sculpted into flesh, dashed with cruelty and the spark of life.

You'll see it too. When enough of them turn on you, when you let yourself close enough to be betrayed by the ones you love, the ones who never, ever would do such a thing, until they do. I have been treated like a toy and an obstacle and a disease. I have been a monster pretending at humanity for a long time now. I no longer see any reason to try.

[He listens. Precisely the same tone, though with a touch of something at the very edge of the last word... disdain.] Your point?

[He catches the slight change in tone, but is too tired to care.] A few weeks ago, I promised you that I wouldn't go behind your back. I promised that then, and I'm upholding that now. This guy needs to be stopped before he kills more innocent people. I want to go see Moran.

I would agree, but he seems to have flown the coop, so to speak. [He's angry about it, it hardens his tone. The anger is more than detectable, and he only attempts to restrain it to a certain extent.]

[It slips out before he can stop himself.] That bastard. [He recollects, taking a deep breath.] Sorry. Okay. [The anger is a bit out of the ordinary for just a random case, something he recently learned after meeting Archibald Black. He pauses.] I'm going to make the awkward choice and just say it, do you want my help on this? I'll back off, if you ask me to.

Moran is everybody's problem. [Seriously.] If you have a lead, I'd like to hear it. At this point, if we have to capture him and keep him sedated it is an improvement on the current situation.

Okay. [He pauses. He's still in pain, and fighting to think perfectly straight.] He's lonely, he feels betrayed. I'd bet money Miss Maheu is involved. Do we know if she's safe? I don't know if he'd hurt her, but she needs to be protected too. [Another pause.] I can try and keep him going. Feed him. He told me he noticed that I'd kept my word once before. It's not much, but it's something.

She's safe. I'm aware of the circumstances, but they can't be altered. His idea is keeping the woman locked somewhere he can watch her all the time, and apparently the entire city is to blame for that being impossible. Logic has clearly left the picture.

[He's quiet a few seconds, silenced by shock.] No way. That's...women aren't hamsters. Has he realized this? [He shakes his head.] That was a rhetorical question. Okay. So he's lost all logic, and he's blaming everyone because he can't keep his main squeeze in a box like some sort of weird reality show. He's emotional, he's upset, he's vulnerable despite the fact that he's wielding a lot of power. And we have no idea where he is. I take it the "convince him we're talking to her" route is not an option. What if she asks him to meet her somewhere, and we spring a surprise attack? I know he's powerful, but I've learned recently that I can take a lot of abuse. My webs are tough, they could keep him contained.

If we can locate him, that's a possibility, but we need measures in place to restrain him quickly. If he's conscious he will call in more problems for the entire northwestern United States.

[The humor has left his voice - for the first time in a while, the spider sounds serious.] My webs are strong. They've held over two hundred and fifty pounds before. If you can knock him out, I can bind him up and restrain him without any problem. They degrade after about fifteen minutes, which gives us time to move him or I can keep webbing him up as need be. As far as finding him, everyone needs money. Can we peek in on his bank account?

Moran is just a man. His ability is all the trouble we will have as long as stealth is on our side. Location is key. [...] Talk to Oracle about following a money trail. If possible, we want to keep the girl out of this, otherwise we will turn around and she will be gone with him to Antarctica before we can blink.

Close-range, I take it? I can stick to walls and keep to the shadows, and my webbing can replace suction cup boots any day of the week for someone else. [He pauses.] Okay, I'll give her a ring. You said you're aware of the situation, do you have eyes and ears with Miss Maheu?

[Faintly amused.] I think I can handle the stealth. [To the last question, sobering:] In a manner of speaking.

[Cracking a smile.] Can you teach me? Creeping isn't the same thing as stealth. [Curiosity makes him want to push, but he's lately learned the virtue of giving people space.] Okay, then. I'll ask Oracle about tracking Moran. [He hesitates.] Do we know if Moran is the Weatherman, or is it still a hunch?

[A pause.] Okay. I'll talk to Oracle about the money trail. If I get anything else, you'll know.
