Luke is scheduled to meet with the police and prosecutor's office on Monday at 10 am, at Thomas, Inc. Our lawyers will all be in attendance, and you will both be required to make your statements at that time. I believe the public defender is eager to cut a deal, and it might be best to avoid a trial, if the terms are agreeable. They have, of course, requested all evidence. I provided it to the best of my knowledge.

The company holiday gifts have been purchased, as they are every year. The press has been barred from passing Aubade's gates, and you and Luke may return at any time that he is able.

Very well.

You've let him know?

I was leaving that to you. If you would rather I speak to him, I shall. How are you holding up, Thomas?

There's nothing wrong with me.

Of course. Is talking to Luke about what happened proving to be a challenge?

He says he will be fine.

You need something?

Yes. I require you to take your AmEx Black and visit a store, perhaps an online one if you're more comfortable doing so, and I require you to purchase presents for your son. And, no, a gift card will not suffice.

Also, his friends have sent him a get well gift, and I recommended he have them visit once he is back in Aubade.

What does he like, Thomas?

Video games.

That is a good start. Ask him which ones he would like. You could get something for Oracle, as well. She likes electronics. And Roger, but you know him better than I. And, of course, jewelry always works well with women.

He doesn't need more video games.

Roger? [What the hell does Roger want?]

The holidays are not about things one needs, Thomas. They are about frivolous wants you wouldn't spend money on yourself. And they are about showing affection. Mainly the latter. And, yes, Roger.

They don't want money.

No. They want to know you cared enough to pick something out that expresses your feelings for them. It isn't about the money, Thomas. It's a way to tell them you care without having to say the words, picking something thoughtful.

I can't express things with things. Please don't make me do this. You pick out something.

This is the first year since we have known each other than you have people in your life that you care about. I would be doing you a disservice by doing as you ask, and I would never do you a disservice.

Of course. And while you are trying to decide if you have time, think of those sad faces on Christmas morning if you do not. It is good practice for playing St. Nicolas in the future, Thomas.
