Open Thread
Who: Fred and OPEN to anyone who wants to join him
When: 19 February 1999, late afternoon
Where: Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes, 93 Diagon Alley

Status: Incomplete

Fred was sitting on the barstool he had placed behind the counter, resting a bit. The shop had been slow that day, and George had left to go get some supplies for a new product idea they wanted to try out. He wasn't exactly happy about how he still didn't have all of his old energy back, even though the Healers told him that it would take some more time. If there was one word that would describe Fred, it was impatience.

Sighing, he looked up at the clock, and smiled. Only half an hour before closing time, then he could go and start dinner. Not that he could cook at all, but this would be his first time in the kitchen in months.

Hermione knew she couldn't avoid Ron forever. She still had to be the duitful 'girlfriend' and that meant she couldn't remain hidden in her office in the Ministry. The shoppe was usually a good place to find him, so she walked there after work.

Even thought while she'd been at Hogwart's she frowned upon 'wheezes', she had to admit the twins had done well for themselves. She was glad to see Fred at the counter as well, though she felt somewhat sad that now after so many years...she knew how to tell them apart now.

"Hullo, Fred," she said cheerfully, glad for once she didn't have to force herself into being pleasant. "How'd business? Do I have to buy some Ton-Tongue Toffees?"

Fred looked over at the door as he heard it open, and smiled widely. It had been a while since he had seen Hermione, and he'd been wondering how she was.

"Hey!" he greeted her, giving her a wave that signaled for her to come over. "It's been slow today, but otherwise fine. And no, I won't force you to buy anything. Unless you want, that is," the last bit was a joke, and he winked at her to show her that it was.

"Well, I might have to, just to keep myself amused," she said, leaning against the counter. "How have you been, Fred? I barely see you--or anyone--anyumore, the Minsitry keeps me so bloody busy." She thought he looked good, much better than he had just after the Battle, certainly. He did look more his old self to her.

"George keeping you on your toes?" she asked.

"I'm better than I have been," he replied honestly. "Just wish I didn't have to sit down after twenty minutes all the time. The Healers say that's normal, though." He blinked at her. "So, they're overworking you? Do I need to go down there and have a chat with them?" He couldn't hold back a laugh as he spoke.

Smiling at the mention of George, he nodded. "Yeah, he's been a right taskmaster. Seriously, he's great. We're both just glad to get back on track."

"If it were a matter of a person, I'd have you come down staright away!" Hermione said. "Sadly, it's all of Umbridge's horrid laws that have me so overtaxed. She worte them to make them practially impossible to modify without throwing them out. People want them changed, but they're so intertwined with other laws. It's turning into a nightmare." She sighed then. "It just seems so awful that because of her, Remus can't even bother looking for a decent job. It's so unfair."

She blinked. "Sorry...I shouldn't babble so," she said. "What does George have you cooking up? You look...very good. Much more YOU than in a while."

Fred made a face, but it wasn't directed at Hermione. "Seems that daft cow left her mark everywhere," he said with a scowl. Umbridge was someone he despised with all his being, and he was glad she was out of the Ministry. "Well, if Remus really wants a job, I can talk to George about that. Not sure if he'd want to work with us, though."

Shaking his head, he smiled at her again. "Don't worry, you're allowed to vent. And thanks," he said, looking away slightly. "I wish I felt as good as I look, though."

"I think he more wants to feel like he can be a useful part of society, not just a werewolf," Hermione said, resting her elbows on the counter and her chin in her hands. "I wish I knew how to help give him that chance."

Her face grew worried though. "Are you still tired?" she asked. She hear more updates from Ginny and Molly than Ron to tell the truth. "What did the healers say?"

"I do, too," Fred replied, looking pensive for a minute. "Surely, there must be a way that we can, yeah?" Of course, he wasn't sure how. But now that the thought was in his head, he would dissect it and try to figure something out.

Nodding, he gazed at Hermione. "Yeah, I am sometimes. Not sleepy, so much as my body doesn't want to catch up to my brain. I was told this was normal, and that I'll eventually even out. I hope they're right." Because really, he didn't want to feel like an old man before he was even in his prime.

	"Well, I know that they're doing everything thsy can to help," she said, "and you know you've always got us to cheer you on. You've alrady come so far...you'll only get better." Fred, next to Ginny, was one of her favorite Weasleys. She was so relieved and happy that he was alive, and wanted him to get better so much. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Ginny could be damn sneaky when she wanted to be, and really, she was glad - it had helped to keep her alive when the DA was hiding out in the Room of Requirement. She'd snuck in, hood drawn up, as Fred and Hermione had been talking and she'd waited for the perfect moment to make herself known. She tossed back her hood, grinning broadly at Fred. "Need to have what all now?" she asked. "Do I need to go shopping for you? Or do I need to find you a date?" she teased.

Shaking his head, Fred looked at her. "But at least I didn't have to wear these," he said, indicating the glasses he'd left on the counter. "I don't think I'll ever get used to those."

Laughing, he leaned into her. "Well, maybe we can start with younger than Aberforth or Rosemerta. And no younger than you," he wanted someone who was out of school, after all. "Do I need to make you a list?"

"I think they look distinguished," she offered. "They make you look as if you earned more than three OWLs." Ahhh... the bane of their mother's existence; the fact the twins didn't do better on their exams.

"A list would help," Ginny said brightly. "Perhaps even a list of interview questions." She was teasing, of course, but if her brother really wanted help finding someone to date, Ginny would look for him. She just wanted her family to be happy.

Hermione was surprised when Ginny slipped ito the room, but within minutes she was fighting the giggles and Fred and Ginny bantered back anbd fortth. It's a shame, that I'm happier with everyone in Ron's family...but Ron, she thought to herself. Then a second later, her face grew red and her hands went to her mouth. She coughed, and considering she'd been trying not to laugh just moments before, she was sure that no-one would notice.
