As per an informational post by the divine Margaret Yazzie, this is an out of character roundup for the meeting of NYU discontents that took place tonight! If you have a character who would be interested in attending, please peruse a few details about what occurred at the meeting this evening.
Quick refresher about time and location: the meeting began at 7:00 inside Tome Raiders, the equally divine Leo Oakley's independent bookstore. Characters of from all backgrounds were welcome; loss of funding cuts across all ideological lines, so you can be certain that there were no concerned citizens turned away at the door.
This is the first meeting of what will be (hopefully) many. As such, there's not much of a plan! Most of the meeting will be taken up with voicing concerns, and brainstorming ideas about what they can do to spotlight student issues. We're operating under the assumption that the NYU budget post-cuts has yet to be published, so the goal of the brainstorming would be to make sure the administration doesn't totally shaft student services and financial aid when trying to rearrange everything.
Volunteers for brainstorming ideas? If your character would suggest any of the following: petitions, letter campaigns, op/ed and letter to the editor campaigns, or picketing, please let us know! Please don't feel limited to these suggestions, of course; if your character would propose something else awesome and/or crazy, that would be crazy awesome.
A webcam was set up in the bookstore in order to record the meeting, because taking minutes is so 20th century. Short clips of the meeting will be made available after it's over!
Food! Maggie delivered on her promise to make a few batches of cupcakes: lemon and key lime flavored, how summery. Culinary delights from Java Joe's were also available, but those you had to pay for. Half the proceeds on the Java Joe's food made available will go to a fund for assisting foreign nationals and refugees who lost their homes in the raids.
Important OOC note: There is a Bigger Picture behind these meetings than worrying about the future of NYU, wonderful springboard though this issue may be. We want to make sure you guys know that even though this meeting is pretty ideologically free-form, the core of a revolutionary group is going to be formed from the people who regularly attend these meetings. If you want to get your character in on rebellion activity, this would be one avenue to getting it done!
Did your character show up to the meeting? What did they contribute, or did they just chill in the back? We'd love to know! Please leave us a comment if you'd like to describe what your character did while they were there, it'll make our night! Thanks so much for reading through.
