Title: Next Leg Of The Journey
Rating: NC-17
Pairings: Snape/Hagrid, Albus/Gellert
Disclaimer: The people & places are Rowling's. The situations and anything you don't recognize are the author's. This fic is an exchange gift written to request and no profit was made. It takes place in the world belonging to JK Rowling, which is merely borrowed for the nonce and remains unspindled, unfolded and unmutilated, though it does get a bit smutty.
Summary: Two entirely different men come to a new understanding of each other after the war.
Warnings: highlight between brackets if you prefer story warnings:
[Wanking, voyeurism, attempted suicide, first time, rimming, a love bite or two, gratuitous use of Oscar Wilde, and death, but no destruction]
Author's notes: This starts off a bit slow, but then it's meant to. Thanks to my betas, you know who you are. Merry Smutmas, Vissy!

Lovely fic, if heart-breaking.... I enjoyed it but it was so sad!

This is such a lovely story - so sweet and gentle, sad and tender! I adored Snape reading to Hagrid, and the protectiveness Hagrid felt toward him. The ending was particularly sweet and made me giggle at poor, clueless Harry! *G*

He was glad-after all Snape had done for him and for the Wizarding World, the least Harry could do in exchange was provide him a place of peace where, it seemed, he had finally found some contentment.

This was fabulous - and I'm not just saying that because I adore Oscar Wilde. The idea of Snape teaching Hagrid magic was great. I really enjoyed this!

Beautifully done!

This story doesn't 'start off a bit slow' - it's appropriately quiet and gentle as befits the interactions between Hagrid and Severus. The way they behave, towards the situation and each other, feels believable and in-character. And the way you handle Hagrid's accent is excellent.

Lovely, simply lovely...

(I am curious - what was the recipient's story request 'prompt'?)

What a wonderful story and a lovely Christmas present that the rest of us can enjoy as well. I especially enjoyed the language/word choices ... old-fashioned and very appropriate to the formal style of Severus' speech and Hagrid's verbal peculiarities.

This was lovely! There were sad parts, of course, but I really thought it was quite a happy and hopeful fic in the end. I rarely read Hagrid fic, but he matched up surprisingly well with Snape here. I liked the way Snape taught him magic and read him poetry. :-)

Thank you, o writerly benefactor!

&hearts&hearts&hearts

Okay, I'm dork enough to admit I peeked at the first few comments before I started reading (I couldn't help it, they were right there!) and saw SAD and TISSUES and wondered what I was in for (no, seriously, it's been that kind of week) and then it turned out to be something so tender and comforting and gorgeous. No tissues required at all! I'm ALSO dork enough to be reading reading reading and thinking wow, it's like someone read my mind what with all the cozy belly fondling and armpit nuzzling (wow, even cool armpit terminology!) before it occurred to me that that's precisely what I requested. NNGhHHH, oxthers, oh boy. And Hagrid just the way I like him, and Snape, SNAPE, and both so careful and caring with each other, and inexperience galore. Not to mention slapping bollocks, filthy rimming and glorious, glorious romance!

I also love the comparison between Skeeter's double on tonders, Elphias' fucked up eyewitness account, and what Snape and Hagrid experience for themselves in the mirror of Albus' doomed affair - each account rather turns me on and satisfies my hopeless POV kink! I also never get sick of hearing Snape talk about what happened in the Shack (both times) and I like the take you've presented here.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you took on both these pairings.

How beautiful! I love the pairing, I love them getting around Severus' being a ghost and then Hagrid's, erm, largesse, and everything else about this story. I'm just squirming and grinning and elated. Excellent work. :)

You did a great job with this pairing!

I seldom see Severus/Hagrid, but they surprisingly work well together. I think that even though Severus is typically portrayed as 'all about the mind', and Hagrid 'all about the brawn', the fact is they are each outcasts.

You show that growing connection between them. :-)

I'm so glad I finally found the time to read this. It's absolutely wonderful. Hagrid, someone who's willing to believe in the value of anyone (or anything), paired with Snape, who is so damaged and fragile. I adore how they're both very much themselves, and come to care for each other based on their developing understanding.

The part when Hagrid points out that Snape is "normal sized" and he's never thought of Snape as ugly just about melted my heart. *happy sighs*

And the glimpses of Albus/Gellert are scorching. So misunderstood, the two of them (Rita Skeeter and Elphias Doge most certainly didn't help *g*).

Excellent story! I can't wait to find out who you are, Mystery Author.

That was lovely. I especially liked the use of Dennis Creevey as the grieving instrument who causes Hagrid to make a sacrifice--which turns out to be not such a terrible sacrifice after all. And the backstory of Albus and Gellert as well--the image of them by the water's edge is achingly arousing.

Thank you. I'm glad it worked for you. I'm also glad you mentioned Dennis, as I'd been wanting to include him and his grief in a fic since I read DH and I found he fit beautifully here, so I'm glad you liked that element.

Hah. I'd missed this before because of the pairing, but ran to read it after the reveal.

Wow. You really, really make this work, and it's not a pairing I would have guessed COULD work very well. Hagrid approaches Snape with all the delicacy he'd show a magical creature, and you do such a nice job of conveying what the afterlife must be like, for Snape.

And all along I was wondering how you'd make this end . . whether it could end well. And yet, it does. Happy and sad ending, simultaneously.

This is a really creative story. Thanks so much; I know it's going to stay with me.

*sob* Ohh, that was lovely.

I, too, nearly passed this by because of the pairing, and I'm so glad I didn't. This is just gorgeous. The friendship between the two men was so gentle and moving--Hagrid so simple, Snape so complex, and damn, I'm crying again.

Um. *clears throat* The bit at the end with the painting was a very sweet touch, and I appreciated poor Harry's cluelessness, a charming bit of humor to balance things out.

Thank you so much.
