[He's out alone, without any real destination - just walking, listening to the rhythmic crunch of his boots in the snow and trying to work through his tangled thoughts. He hasn't been sure of anything since he got here, and it's been driving him insane.]

[When he arrived at the nature school, he didn't really reach out to anyone because he was so wrapped up in the problems with Tsubasa and Nagi. But then there was Waku, wild and excitable and so unlike him, and Moji really liked him - until he fell from the top of Zearth, for reasons no one yet understood. It was a shock, one that kept him from connecting with any of the other pilots in any meaningful way.

And then there was his plot to kill Nagi with Zearth, which drove a wedge between himself and the pilots because he couldn't allow any of them to know. It turned out that Chizu might have understood, but how was he to know? He was always too full of plans to concern himself with the others - first to kill Nagi, and then to save him. Everything was still so utterly wrapped around those two.

Now, again, he's keeping his distance. Part of him still thinks it's for the best, that he's protecting people, but a deeper part (that he won't acknowledge) knows that it's simply a mixture of guilt and fear. Guilt over Nagi, fear of another Waku; even if it's just a disappearance from the prison, he doesn't want to lose someone again. Still, he can feel himself drawing closer to some of the people here, almost against his will. What should he do? Cut off all contact, live a solitary life away from the network and others? Take the risk and accept new friends into his life? He doesn't know. He doesn't know.]

[He veers into the park and toward the memorial gardens, approaching Nakarai's little tree and staring down at the plaque with dry amusement. She had her priorities straight, he thinks - she discovered that she killed billions of people and immediately sought atonement for that act. He's still too wrapped up in his own problems to face the bigger issues of the game. When will it hit him, he wonders?]

[At first, he doesn't panic. He could've known Nakarai or Ushiro - more likely Nakarai, if she talked about the other pilots. He's certainly got no sense of decorum, but there isn't necessarily anything amiss.

Waku, though - that's a prod right to his sorest spot. Why not one of the others?]

Everyone's got their losses from the lives they led before they came here. I'm sure I'm not the only one with people to remember.

[Then he realizes what must be happening, the only explanation he can come up with - it seems impossible, but remember, Moji, nothing is impossible here - and he tries to think of nothing. It mostly results in a litany of empty mind empty mind stop thinking, etc.]
