[She had felt a little self-conscious when leaving the clothing store. She had wore the gloves for months--years? Marina's time is so strange--and choosing now to try something new was awkward. But it was getting warmer and the gloves from the store were not like the ones she'd had specially made back home, her hands sweat and cramped from being in them for too long.
So she's switch to long arm warmers that came up over the palm over her hands, tightly held in place by the hook for her thumb. Still warm, but her hands feel much better in them. It'll take bit of getting used to.
