Christmas/Snow Event Details
Ho ho ho, Marinanites!

The wardens are feeling particularly generous this time of year (or perhaps it's the engineer's influence) and have decided to celebrate yet another earth holiday: CHRISTMAS! This holiday will be specifically US/Europe Christmas from the warden's perspective, but that doesn't mean that characters aren't perfectly welcome to celebrate any winter holiday of their choosing or skip out on the celebrations entirely. Of course, it might be harder to ignore one of the offerings on this holiday...

SNOW

The temperature will take a bit of a dip in the afternoon on Day 225 and by that night it will begin to snow everywhere but Sector 6. When the day post goes up on Day 226 it will be a winter wonderland in the prison! At last the dome is truly a snow globe! (Please don't shake it.) You can expect about three to five inches of snow. While the prison isn't normally a windy place there will be some drifting. Feel free to find rather deep areas. It's also a good snow for packing. Get your snowballs and snowmen and snowforts ready! Bots will have cleared the main walk ways, but there will still be areas of the prison that will require hiking through the cold stuff! Christmas day temperature will be about 30°F/-1°C.

Snow isn't the only thing inmates will be waking up to on the morning of Day 226. They will find — no matter how secured — that someone has been in their home! Everyone will be able to find a neatly wrapped box with a colorful bow and a card saying it is to [character name here] from the wardens. Inside they'll find a gift from home, but unlike the items that can be requested this gift will be something completely generic. Perhaps it's a coffee mug from the gift shop at your local university or a baseball cap celebrating That Local Sports Team or a slinky or maybe a tiny replica of a monument. It could even be a box of salt water taffy or a specific brand of ramen!

Anything that can be found at a gift store or similar shops goes, as long as it's nothing personal to your character. This means no personal signed copies of Catcher in the Rye or your favorite beer opener!

In addition to all this there will be plenty of Christmas-themed goods available, many of which will start on Day 225 for those who would like to decorate and shop for presents. You can find trees (real and fake), ornaments, lights, wreathes, additional novelty gifts, and warm clothing including coats, gloves, scarves, and boots. The novelty gifts will be anything that seems sensible like a fashion necklace or a mug with a mustache drawn on it or a board game or a pot holder in the shape of a pot leaf. But what about something like a bazooka? No. What if it was a toy bazooka that fires foam pellets softly? Then okay. Stores will also still have their normal supply of goods if a bit thinner to make room for all this.

On Day 226 you can also expect bot-run restaurants to be serving all kinds of Christmas goodies. The street carts will have hot cider and hot chocolate. Bot-run bars will have egg nog. Restaurants will have figgy pudding and fruit cakes and traditional meals. The museum will be doing a Santa exhibit. Bot-run buildings will be colorfully decorated and some of the trees will be as well.

Day 227 will be warm and squishy because that snow is melting again. Expect larger piles of snow to stubbornly remain while puddles and mud abound. By Day 228, with some help from the bots and various atmospheric controls, everything will be back to normal.

So many words used and different days mentioned! What do? There will be IC reminders of all this in the dayposts and Day 226 mingle, but this is your one-stop shop for all the details!

You know we talked about it, agreed to it, and never actually wrote it down. But yes, you can feel free to find mistletoe hanging in doorways. Unenforced mistletoe! There are no mistletoe bots and no shields. It's just a plant in a doorway. Ignore it or enjoy the tradition as you see fit!

Really, anything Christmas-y is findable. Tinsel? Sure. Holly? Sure. Poinsettias? Yep. You can assume anything like that. Now, if you have research on a Christmas bazooka that isn't coming to my mind, please ask first. Because no.

This is indeed the consumerist-oriented, Coca-Cola Santa, non-denominational definition of Christmas!

There won't be any decorations aimed specifically towards any one religion (so no new, shiny nativity scenes either) but since the regular merchandise is varied to begin with, it also wouldn't be out of the question to find something anyway if you'd like to. It just wouldn't be part of the special new displays and it certainly wouldn't be available in any kind of larger volume.

	There is an indoors ice skating rink in Sector 3 that is available for use year round! As for event-specific ice rinks, there are none unless the inmates take it upon themselves to make one. (Reply to this) (Parent)
