He’d never been kissed before. His mom, his grandma, people like that didn’t count. They didn’t kiss him the way Zoe did. It wasn’t like the first time, when he kissed her. She’d pulled away and pushed him away. This time she initiated it. And it was amazing.
One of his write-to-yourself letters like Dr Sherman told him to write ran through his head. Dear Evan Hansen, Today is a good day, and here’s why. ZOE KISSED YOU! And it was amazing. So much better than you ever dreamed possible. Her lips were soft and and tasted like cherries.
His reverie was interrupted when he realised he was no longer in his bedroom. He was...outside. And it was cold. Very cold. He wasn’t dressed for this kind of weather. He tugged at his shirt, at the waist of his jeans. He crossed his arms over his chest and shivered. Nothing looked familiar. Where the hell was he?
Was this some kind of dream? That didn’t really make sense. But he had just been in his bedroom. Zoe had just kissed him. She’d finally noticed him because he claimed to be her brother’s best friend. Connor was dead, and in his death, Evan found the family he’d always wanted. He’d landed the girl of his dreams.
So why was he here? He lowered his head, avoiding eye contact. He wanted to ask someone for information. Where was he? Why was he here? How could he get home? But he couldn’t do that. He’d never had self esteem and while he might have gained a little self confidence recently, he hadn’t gained that much.
He stumbled back a couple of steps and dropped onto a bench on front of a fountain. He covered his face in his hands and wondered what the hell he was supposed to do now. Dear Evan Hansen, Today is not such a good day, and here’s why. You found yourself in a strange place. It’s cold, and you don’t know where you are…
