Who: Harry Dresden and Sigrun Gard
What: His Arrival
Where: Her apartment
When: Night of his Arrival
Why: Because hilarity?
Status: Completed G-doc
Warnings: Nudity. But otherwise nothing.
Another long day done, and Harry trudged into the house, tired and sweaty, and groaning. A little magic teaching, and a lot of lectures, and a whollllle lot of chores. A typical day at the McCoy homestead. For him, anyway.
Stowing Bob on a shelf, he grabbed some clothing and walked to the shower, ditching his dirty clothing into the hamper and the clean stuff to the counter, and stepping into the shower, as hot as he could get it. He needed it, a lot, and dinner, and then maybe bedtime. Tomorrow came early. Under the hot water, his eyes went closed and he groaned.
And suddenly, there was a rush of air and he staggered, and the floor of the shower felt different under his feet, somehow, and his eyes flashed open.
“What the---?”
He swiveled his head and spotted someone… a very tall, very female back, wet hair, and very female ass walking away. And a sexy one at that. The scars, more than he had seen on anyone before, didn’t diminish that at all. “Stars and Stones!”
***
That phrase made her jerk her head up. A very classic Harry phrase. But why was she hearing it in her shower? She turned and looked at him.
“Fuck.” She had grabbed the first object in her bathroom to throw until she could get to her axe. She set that back down, there was no mistaking the fact that this was either one Harry Dresden or someone from home. She snatched a towel off the rack and threw it at him instead, not checking her strength either. It was only a towel but…
“Cover up. Welcome to Madison Valley. Damn. Now I can't blame you for this mess.” She didn't seem phased by her own nakedness, she was a Valykrie. Modesty happened as necessary or not at all.
She took the time to grab her own towel and wrap it around her frame. Her front was just as scarred as her back. But she didn't seem to care much. She was annoyed her day just got worse.
***
The towel hit him and he reached out to grab it, and that was a mistake as his wrist nearly bent backward, his foot slipped and he went down, legs spread and high, on his back, slamming his head down on the floor. The world spun and almost turned to darkness, but slowly consciousness seemed to clear and he groaned. “What??”
He groaned and reached up to grab the side of the shower to haul himself up, leaving the now wet towel behind. “How the heck am I here? Where am I? This is definitely not McCoy’s Farm.” He was looking everywhere, and trying not to stare at her still attractive, even wrapped, body. He cradled his arm against his body, knowing it would heal fast.
What had he gotten into?”
Stepping carefully out of the shower, he didn’t, quite, fall over, and reached for another towel to wrap around his waist., winching as his wrist, and head, both hurt.

Sigrun heaved a sigh then reached under her sink for her med kit. She already had one and she'd been here less than a month. It was almost part of her life to need it.
She waited until he was decent before grabbing his arm. She was less gentle than anyone else but determining nothing was broken just sprained she wrapped it in an ace and let it go.
“This is not the McCoy farm. Wrong state no less. This is Madison Valley, Indiana. There's a force here that finds amusement in pulling people from their homes and dropping them here. No I don't know why. And don't you dare try any magic right now, I happen to like my electricity working at the moment.” She spoke as she tended to him.
“Harry Dresden, correct?” Because the McCoy farm gave that away. Her tone never changed from even and slightly cold. “And don't you dare look me in the eye. I have no desire for that right now.” There was a knock on her door. She sighed.
“Welcoming committee. Sit.” She got up to collect his things from them, heaving a heavier sigh as they informed him of his age. But that there was a house registered under his name from before. She'd check on that later but she signed off to be his guardian knowing she was going to regret it later.
***
Harry staggered to where she was,a dn winced at her grip, but didn’t complain, looking down. She was gentler than Justin but she looked and sounded angry to him. His mind was whirling and confused. Women were not supposed to be in charge, according to Justin and yet, she was clearly stronger than Harry, more powerful, and he did not want to get hit. He found himself staring at the floor, unsure how to proceed.
“I’ll do my best. DuMorne never taught me to shield my powers or damp them down. Haven’t had any luck since being relocated to the McCoy farm, either, ma’am.” His voice was confused, sounded as panicked as he was, and submissive, all at the same time.
“Yes, ma’am.” he stayed where he was, sitting immediately as she had ordered. He was surprised she had treated him. Justin never would unless he had been seriously hurt.

Sigrun was not that monster of a man. She was not even human, of course, and much tougher. But she was kinder too. “We will work on it then.” She replied as she walked back in.
“I am Sigrun, I will be your guardian here. I'm no wizard but I'm a valkyrie, so I can manage. But I'm not the best. There are magic users here, I will enlist your help.” She sighed this was not her week.
“Let's find you clothes. Anything else hurt?”
***
“Thank you, I would like that, ma’am.” That was polite, right? He hoped so.
He blinked and gaped a little. Then he shook his head, looking down again.”I... that is amazing.” he had a million questions and was afraid to ask any of them. One thing she said caught his attention and made him gape again, startled. “My help? What can I do?”
He nodded. “Thank you. And no, ma’am. I’m not hurt.”
***
“Well you know you best. I will need your help finding who would work best with you. My magic is vastly different.” She waved her hand lazily. “Please stop calling me ma'am. I know I am old, but either Ms Gard or Sigrun is fine.”
She shook her head and started into the other room, digging through the closest before returning with some sweatpants and a t shirt. They'd be big on him but they would do.
“When you are dressed, then, we will go get you better clothing. I'm sure you have questions, I'll do my best to address them as I may, though I have not been here long.” It was the most she'd spoken to Harry is her life.
She was glowering, in her head, at the dome. Not fair, place, not fair.
***
“I… I will try to figure out who might know what. I do not know much about wizards, yet.” And most of those he had met, he had not liked.
He listened to her, and winced. “I didn’t mean disrespect, ma---er, sorry. Ms. Gard?” His voice was a little desperate. So much new information, so much that was different from everything he knew. How was he to learn when the rules had changed… again?
He took the clothing gratefully. “Thank you. I will try not to bother you with too many questions, Ms. Gard.” That way lay punishment, and even this nice woman surely would get tired of him eventually.
He started dressing then and there, since, a, she had already seen everything, and b, she was his authority. While he had started learning freedom again, he felt for the moment like he was back in the past and it was better to go by old rules. Follow the rules, don’t get hurt.
***
“We'll figure it out. I won't risk your safety or theirs if I don't think it'll work.” She shrugged a bit then went to put her own clothes on.
“Ask whatever you wish, kid. If I have the answers I'll tell you.” She paused as if listening to something only she could hear.
“I won't hurt you, kid. I'm not like either of those men you know. Question me. I will only be firm when you're likely to hurt others, you flinch enough as is. And you'll learn soon enough I'm scary. I just don't see the need to point it at you”
Not when he was a kid. She was plenty mean to him as an adult.
***
“Thank you.” he dared to look up at her. “I appreciate it. I’ll do my best to… to do right.” he swallowed and smiled tentatively. Could she actually be serious, and honest? It felt like a dream. He swallowed and hoped.
“I’ll try.” He didn’t know how to let his curiosity out, honestly. So he would hope, and wonder, and try. And hope he didn’t mess up and end up killing someone again.
“I… thank you.” He hoped that didn’t sound as weak and quiet as it did to him.
He smiled tentatively again. Words boiled out of him. “Will you teach me to be as tough as you?”
***
Sigrun sighed at him. “Relax kid.” she shook her head, this place was out to kill her she just knew it. Of all the people who had to appear in her damn shower it was this one? Really? She glowered skyward as if she could scare the dome into submission.
It didn’t work obviously.
“Start by not trying to cower in a corner for one.” she said over her shoulder. “Then we’ll see about toughening you up a bit. You have a lot to do in your life, and this isn’t going to go very well for you if you keep up like this.” he’d get eaten alive.
Before she had to actually cross his path. She sighed. “Come on, I don’t bite.”
***
Harry peeked up at her, remembering to use his slide eyes technique, so that his eyes never quite stayed on hers longer than a millisecond. No soulgazes, please and thank you. “I’m sorry. I’ll try?” He flailed a hand and blew out a breath, finally trying to remember some semblance of calming exercises, and nodded.
“I’ll try.” He nodded and sat up a little more, smiling hopefully at her that this was better. “I… don’t know...I don’t know how to… I’m sorry.” he blew out a breath again. It had been so long since he had done anything but cower, even McCoy had not yet broken through it. And he was tired, very tired.
Suddenly, he swayed, almost overcome with exhaustion.
He tried to stand and almost fell facefirst to the ground.
***
Sigrun moved fast. She was quick on her feet, after all, and caught him. “Alright shopping postponed.” she lifted him easily, he weighed nothing to someone like her and carried him out to the other room. She sighed, he could take the bed, she didn’t need to sleep nearly as much as people thought she did.
She hefted him into one arm, pulled the sheets back and dropped him, gently, into the bed and tucked him in. “Get sleep, we’ll deal with more in the morning. You need to sleep.” she sighed softly and dropped into the chair on the other side of the room.
“Rest easy, nothing will bother you here.”
***
“Sorry.” He apologized again, mumbling more, now. He shivered as she lifted him, her strength astounding him. She was strong, but he had been told, taught, pushed, to believe that women were not that strong. How was this even possible?
He groaned as she put him to bed and tucked him in. Fighting to stay awake, he dared to catch her arm for a second, whispering thank you.
“How can this be real, any of it?” This place, her kindness, her strength? How?
***
She paused as he grabbed her arm. He was lucky, she wasn’t known for her kindness. But he was just a kid, really, in the grand scheme of things. He wasn’t his adult self and she couldn’t help but feel a little protective.
He had had a very, very hard life. She knew this. How could she not? Odin wasn’t the all father for nothing, he knew things and she was trusted. “Don’t know, kid, don’t know. It is as real as home. I promise, no harm will come to you here while I am around.” she didn’t take words lightly.
“You rest. We can speak more of this tomorrow.” she sighed, she was going to wreck his world view and he had no idea.
***
He shuddered at her words and slowly nodded, relaxing back into the bed, feeling so tired,so very tired, shocked and reeling. How?
Nothing made sense and he felt so confused, and yet he was so tired. He needed to know but he didn’t have the strength to even ask what he needed. How?
“Thank you, Sigrun Gard. Thank you, Mistress.” An old term, even among wizards. But it felt right.
***
Sigrun felt a little weird.
She was nothing like what that meant to them. She was not in the same class, in some ways she was above them, and others below. She didn’t deserve that. But she sighed softly and laid her hand on his head, fingers tracing a rune slowly.
“Sleep peacefully.” she muttered pushing her energy into it, she wasn’t great those but she could manage to stave off a few of the nightmares tonight. Before she dropped into the chair and watched him, what the hell was the Dome thinking?
