BLU2: Art Focus rules, info and sign-up post! Updated Deadline: March 13 for art and writer sign-ups
Snupin Big Bang: Bigger, Longer and Uncut 2, Art Focus
Here we go! I finally figured out how this should run, and it is going to be just a little different than other Art Bangs out there. The idea of an Art Focus for our second Big Bang means the artists step into the driving spotlight, presenting their works to inspire writers, instead of the other way around.
Art and stories will be presented together with reveals on the BLU web site. As a participant, if you make an account there, you will have the ability to respond to comments and make other minor changes.
Timeline:
Jan. 24: Artists and Writers sign-ups begin today
March 13: All sign-ups close and Art is due!
March 15: Writer assignments out
April 15: First Draft writer deadline
May 1: Final Draft deadline
Reveal: June 1 or when all art has a matching story - this is allowing for Pinch Hitters
How does this work again? Artists submit original art. Writers produce fics based on the art. All will remain anonymous until the reveals on the BLU archive, which will happen on the same day. I will post 1 art/story combo to the Lupin_Snape communities per day after the reveals. Once all combos have been posted to the communities, you will be free to repost the work anywhere.
Artist Notes:
Reply here with your intent to participate. You can express intent up to the March 1 deadline.
Art must feature Snape/Lupin, Snape and Lupin, or any Snape/Lupin/Other. Threesomes must be in a romantic situation. Snape and Lupin in a non-romantic piece, we're giving some leeway on, although, remember, the writers will be asked to write at least pre-slash. Big Bangs are meant to celebrate whatever their subject is, and here, it's the Snape/Lupin relationship.
Art can be any rating from G to NC-17. We encourage all ratings.
Artists may submit up to three (3) pieces of exchange-quality work. If you want to do more, email me.
Art may be drawings, comics or sequences without text, detailed photomanips, fan vids without text, detailed crafts, etc. (email me with ideas before starting craft or etc.).
Art must be at least 700 pixels, either wide or long, but larger sizes accepted, to be available through right-click.
Art should be web-ready. If you don't know how to prepare web-ready, at least send .jpg, .png or .gif
Scans accepted as long as they are high quality (we can clearly see the art) and meets the other formatting requirements.
If you sign your art or credit your videos, please submit one copy with a signature or credit and one without.
Submit with the following in your email: ->Subject line - Art from USERNAME ->Preferred Artist name (should match your BLU account name) ->Rating ->Characters (sorry, I might not recognize your version of characters, esp. in 3somes) ->Content Warnings, if any ->General description of piece (Just what is seen, not your interpretation - so I can discuss the piece with an author for any reason) ->Link to your art "home" on the internet (be it web, journal memories, masterlist, etc.) ->Artist notes - this is where you can talk about the medium you used, how you came up with the idea, stories about the art or process, working titles, beta thanks, etc. I encourage artists to make these notes lengthy and thorough. This is the Art Focus BB, so don't be shy!
General Notes:
In case it's not clear, artists and authors should remain anonymous to each other and the rest of us!
Betas should be used by all.
You may participate as both an artist and writer.
You may write or draw with a partner.
No crossovers.
AU and AR welcome.
No themes. If an artist is seeking inspiration, please post to your journal or the community. I doubt there will be a shortage of ideas. ^_^
Writer Notes:
Reply here with your intent to participate with the following information in the post: A brief statement of your absolute "no, do not want" issues. This can be a short list of unique - but extreme - squicks, an inability to write threesome het or slash or both, a desire to remain below a certain rating, etc. If your list gets too long and detailed, I might not be able to find a piece for you. Also, please assume if I get any extreme pieces, which are more than welcome, I will contact authors personally. Alternately, you can include a "I'm fine with these things" list. Whichever is shorter.
Stories must be a minimum of 5000 words. Longer is always welcome.
Snape/Lupin content should equal or dominate the story. Snape/Lupin preslash or UST is welcome, but not true Gen. BLU is meant to celebrate the pairing.
You will be assigned art pieces by me with the direction you give in your sign-up.
If there are more writers than art, writers may be assigned to write for the same art.
Stories with poor Spelling and Grammar (SPAG) will be returned for editing.
I reserve the right to make SPAG edits if I spot them.
The First Draft April 15 deadline will require at least 2500 words to be emailed to me. If you do not make this deadline, I will be looking far and wide for pinch hitters. There will be no extensions for this deadline.
Submit with the following in your email: ->Subject line - Story from USERNAME ->Preferred Author name (should match your BLU account name) ->Rating (one note here: if the art has explicit sex in it, your piece should include explicit sex) ->Pairing/Characters ->Content Warnings, if any ->Rough word count ->Summary ->Genre - Alternate Universe (AU), Alternate Reality (AR), Pure Canon, Canon with ignoring DH, etc. ->Link to your story "home" on the internet (be it web, journal memories, masterlist, etc.) ->Author notes - this is where you can give beta thanks, talk about the process or how the art inspired you, etc.
I'm also going to need some trusted volunteers to help me with this. I could use someone to help in the email account (but only if you are good at using Gmail and Google spreadsheets) and someone to read over all the fic. If someone knows E-Fiction well, I could use your expertise as a consultant or admin. I'll be honest, I'm only going to hand out passwords to people I know or who have a loooong fandom history or a really good recommendation from someone I know or recognize from fandom. But readers, especially, can be forwarded mail, so you don't have to be experienced to help read.
In case it's not clear, running BLU2 is a massive undertaking for one person, which I know it may be. Go easy on me and really read this post before asking questions. All that said, if you have issues, if I left something out, if you feel some element is going to keep you from participating, let me know in reply here or in an email. I have definitely moved away from the other art Big Bangs by trying to keep this as anonymous as possible until the reveal. I reserve the right to make adjustments to these rules, but if I do, I will make a separate announcement on the community. My hope is that everyone will have a sense of excitement and fun participating in BLU2: Art Focus.
Finally, please spread the word about this Big Bang: Art Focus far and wide. If you have friends that don't normally draw for Snape/Lupin, please point them over here and ask if they might be interested. The same goes for writers, especially those that love to write for art.
So, thanks, everyone. I hope this has you interested in participating! Again, please let me know if you have questions or issues. All that said:
Sign-ups are now open! Reply here after reading the Notes Cut that applies to you! Please do make a sign-up post if you're thinking about participating. It would be good to know the rough ratio of art and artists to writers that we're going to have.
