Letter from Dorothy Meriwether to Everett Meriwether, 16 Sept 1942
Sent via V-mail, in answer to his letter:
Dear Everett,
Of course I'm proud of you, and don't you fret about your captain. I'm sure you did all you could for him and all our prayers are going out for his safe return.
The twins are still fine, and still sending letters that only miss being completely blacked out by the censors because they don't say anything at all. We haven't heard anything from your brother since my last letter, but Lucy has found some other Navy wives to share a room with in Los Angeles so she'll be able to see him next time he has leave. Your uncle Edward says his latest batch of recruits are doing well (well, he said they "aren't completely useless" but we all know what that means) and your cousin Frances Cordelia was first in line to join the WAVES.
Your daddy sends his love and says to take care of yourself.
Love, Momma
