Midday Tuesday 15 September 1942, in the Great Hall at Hogwarts Castle...
Once all of the students had filed in through the doors of the Great Hall for their midday meal, Will Goyle walked up to the lectern with his usual resolute purpose. "Before we begin, I should like to take the opportunity to address you regarding some topics of general concern.
"First of all, I consider our drills to be moderately successful. You are beginning to learn to co-operate and to move in an orderly, disciplined fashion, with few exceptions. This is good, because there were several lightning rains last night, and more are expected. Last night, the city of Londinium and the village of Trevena, in Tintagel near Malfoy Manor, were both attacked. I am told that we defended ourselves admirably, but the city wards of Londinium were breached, and there were casualties. Grindelwald's attacks have grown stronger, but we were able to defend ourselves. Publication of the Daily Prophet, however, was delayed, as there was a direct hit on one of the buildings. Grimmauld Place, Odd's Lane, Wandle Lane, and the Odd's Lane end of Diagon Alley were affected.
"We have not lost any of our sacred royalty, either in the north or the south. If you have family members in Londinium or Trevena, please assume that they are safe and well for now. You will be informed if we hear otherwise, but I am told that casualties were low and that most of the damage done was to property rather than persons.
"We are expecting the afternoon edition of the Daily Prophet around teatime.
"Julian Baddock, Francis Boot, and Warren Greenwood were arrested yesterday and have been taken to the War Bureau for questioning along with Miss Eileen MacCormack. It is believed that they may have been in collusion with the Irish and German sympathisers who kidnapped Claudien de Kernoël. We have recovered Monsieur de Kernoël last night; he is safe and in good health, and may be joining us tomorrow. Miss Aoife Rochford was returned to her family in return for his safe passage."
