It had been about nine years since Link had seen the only person he could really consider his best friend - Tammi. Despite what she said, he knew he had royally fucked it all up. He had been selfish and pig-headed. She had been right. He had wanted to tell her that for awhile now. It had taken him a couple of years since high school was over, but he had finally understood a woman's right to choose. He had always supported Tammi, in theory, but he had reacted like a typical threatened male asshole when she had needed him the most. He hadn't been there for her, and he had lived with those consequences. But now, here she was, on this ship of all places. Link still couldn't quite believe it. He didn't think he would until she was actually standing in front of him with that long blonde hair she'd always had. How he had missed her kicking some sense into him when he needed a good kick out of bed. If anyone could get him outside of himself and his ceaseless angst-driven problems, it was Tammi. Link had missed her more than he ever thought he could have missed a person after their fight. He had apologized, a little frightfully over the internet just moments before he was standing on the sun terrace at 4:30 in the morning, but truth be told, he was still nervous. His palms were sweating a little, and he pursed his lips as he waited. He had changed in nine years, and he was certain she had too. What if they couldn't relate to each other anymore? What if he went and screwed things up again? He certainly seemed to be doing a lot of that these days. It had been easier, safer really, to talk to her on the internet. He could hide behind a computer screen and edit the words as he typed them. But here, out in the dark morning air, he was exposed. What if she...
But when he caught sight of her coming out onto the deck, his doubts were pushed aside. It was Tammi, and all he could do was smile at her familiar face and say, "Hi." One word after all these years, but it was a good start.
