Roger wasn't one to pace, but he was. He also wasn't the nervous sort but, there he was, in a rather grand foyer, chewing on the inside of his lip. More often than not, he adored surprising Lily but this was a rather large one and he was still concerned about how she would like it. The practice schedule that he was on, along with the games for the 2002-2003 season weren't wearing on him but the time that he was required to be away from her was. It felt as if they were two ships, passing in the night lately and he'd grown far too accustomed to seeing her bobbing blonde locks to let it continue. With the team having made their final decisions, it was time for Roger to inform Lily of what was completely going on.
With Finbar Quigley out for the rest of the season and not many other choices stepping up to the pitch, Roger was eager to meet with the owners and his coaches to be tapped as Captain. The team managed to keep the rumblings hush-hush, even from the player's families as the deliberations were made. Arguments were slung about as for what salaries should be offered and Roger was sure it seemed like he was in never ending meetings until the late morning hours. But, once the dust settled and everything was squared away, he left with the largest pay increase he ever thought imaginable (although, if you asked him, he held his own during the proceedings and calmly asked for more because he was worth it, even if he was jumping up and down at the first offer that came through). Once he left the last meeting, he met with his manager and sought to find the perfect home for his family. No more 2 bedroom flat with neighbors gallivanting up and down the stairs. No more late night fights heard from two flats over. This would be a place for them and held the prospect of a budding family that they've talked about in passing. It wasn't a Malfoy manor but, damnit, it was nice.
He sent off a ward for Lily to meet him with nothing more than an address. Roger was positive she was going to think that they were staying there for a vacation or a surprise dinner but he was ready to blow her mind with all of his news. Once he got confirmation that she was on her way, he finished getting the rest of the foyer ready.
Candles were lit to her favourite smell and Roger stood a handful of steps away from the front door, eagerly awaiting. On his lapel was a Ballycastle Bats pin with the small words of Captain emblazoned underneath the logo. She wouldn't think it out of place for him to wear the pin, as he normally did, especially after practice or before but the addition would be new.
