Stables.
WHO: Tara MaClay & Willow Rosenberg
WHEN: Day Five, Early-ish morning.
WHAT: Relaxation.
WHERE: Stables.
RATING: G(?)
STATUS: Complete

Everything the night before had nearly felt like a dream when she woke up in the morning, but for once; she knew it wasn’t. At this point it was her fourth day here and each morning she had woken up to the same ceiling, the same bed and the same surroundings. Thoughts had been all consuming since the moment she got here, was there anything she could do in order to lighten the burden of everything that was going on around her? Maybe, maybe if she could just get her mind cleared for a little bit, get away from the situation then Tara could come back to all the problems, confusion and issues with a fresh perspective. With new ideas perhaps this would make a great deal more sense.

Showering and dressing in a pair of blue jeans, sneakers, and a earth colored top the blond witch then set out to somewhere she knew her mind could be cleared; the stables. The distance from the dorm to the stables was fairly short, it was highly unlikely that anyone would bother her there and realistically, if anyone else was there at all, she’d be surprised. Slipping into one end of the barn Tara moved up to a stall where a beautiful bay colored horse was sticking it’s white streaked nose out. Smiling softly at the animal she moved up, delicately extending her fingers before gently stroking the horses fur for a moment. With an idea striking her Tara glanced around, quickly finding horse grooming tools and a lead with halter. Retrieving them she securely fastened the halter around the head of the horse and attached the lead, bringing the miraculous creature out into the main hall of the barn.

Setting up with practiced motions the blond witch let all of the groom tools remain in the organizational bucket next to her as she set it on a foot step. Pulling out the body brush she carefully began to run the bristles through the horses fur. Thoughts began to vanish from her mind in an instant. This, was precisely what she had been needing. To get away from everyone and everything, just some time to her self, doing what she enjoyed in peace and quiet. There was almost no way this could be more perfect, well, there was one way. A sigh slipped from her lips as the horse turned its head to nuzzle her. Giving the animals nose a gentle stroke she smiled softly at it. “Sorry, didn’t mean to make you worry. I’ll, um, be ok.” Pushing the thought aside Tara forced her self to focus on what she was doing instead of everything else going on around her, allowing her mind to slip calmly into a state of limbo where only the motions of her body and the majestic creature she cared to mattered.

So much had gone on the night before and Willow felt like it was a dream, an odd dream but one she felt she wanted to stay in for a while if it meant she could be with Tara a little longer, even if they had stolen time together it was better then nothing. Waking up and getting ready for the day she dressed lightly due to the warm weather. Her first stop from the room which was starting to remind her of her dorm back home was the cooking tent where there were far too many goblins in the kitchen. Willow didn't care much for the goblins mostly because they snared at her with their ugly little faces and beady eyes, she was half tempted in turning them into something nicer but she decided against it because it might make Jareth angry and she had enough to deal with already without getting King Nothing on her case as well.

Leaving the tent she'd taken an apple to chew on as she walked across the field, it was nice that the grass was uncut made her feel like an adventurer as it brushed against her skirt making a swishing sound. The sun was bright in the sky and not a cloud for miles. “Oh sister sun, thank you for being out today watching over everything below. Such a blessing you bring, now if only you gave us all sunglasses as well. Tell the moon goddess I request her full presence tonight, maybe I can convince Tara to come on a walk with me under her light.” She laughed having put an arm over her head to look up into the brightness, looking directly at the sun always made her sneeze and giggled as the bits of apple in her mouth were spit out onto the ground.

Not really watching where she was going other then into the shade Willow managed to wander into the stables, at first she didn't think anything of the place figuring it was empty that was however until she came face to face with a huge animal that looked like he was hungry and about to take a bit right out of her. Frozen in her tracks she wasn't sure what to do, if she ran the beast would follow her and most likely be twice the speed the witch was. Her mind went blank and she couldn't remember any spells that would get her out of this situations, instead she thought she could talk her way out of the situation.

She put up her hands in surrender to the creature that had trotted towards her. “N-nice horsey, I come in peace, honest, and look there are other things around here you can eat besides me..um Hey! There is tons of nummy hay just laying around for you to eat. Look I know witches are high in fiber but realistically we are high in fat as well, trust me I'm no good for your health! Noo not at all.” She shook her head and couldn't think of any other options.

Her mind being comfortably blank continued to focus on the care of the beautiful horse in front of her. Its mane was now coming to a marvelous sheen just as it should and with the warmth of the day creeping in Tara found her self debating if she should give it a bath or not. Perhaps all the horses could use one. Wouldn’t that be nice? Spending the day tending to the horses in the stables, just like when she had been younger, years before. Maybe if she was lucky there might even be a saddle around here? Could it be possible that she could go for a ride? Where there any trails in the area? It would be amazing being able to go for a ride again in nature. It had been how long since she was able to do that? At least two years ago, probably longer, she hadn’t really been keeping track of the time all that well lately.

With thoughts lingering down a different trail it took Tara a moment to even realize there was a voice coming from down near the other end of the stables. Blinking for a moment she slowly set the brush aside, giving the bay colored horse a gentle stroke along his side. “I’ll be right back.” The blond witch muttered to the horse, running her hand along his body so that the horse would know where she was at all times. While heading towards the voice Tara wiped her hands together, attempting to clean them some and that’s when she saw who the voice she’d barely caught belonged to. “Willow.” Tara exclaimed, startled that the redhead would ever come to the stables, however the other woman’s obvious shock and horror was obvious and Tara quickly moved towards her. “Willow, it’s the apple, the horse thinks you’re trying to give it a treat.” Slipping up beside the other woman the blond witch gently placed her hands on Will’s arm. Slowly lowering the redhead’s arm Tara glanced up at her eyes for a moment. “T-trust me Will.” Gently taking the other woman’s hand she took the apple away before extending Willow’s hand into a flat surface with her fingers stretched out. “Hold your hand like this.” The blond gently instructed as she broke off a piece of the apple and placed it on Willow’s flattened out hand. “If you hold steady he’ll just, um, take it off your hand.”

Willow was shaking in the dirt under her feet, she'd always had the fear of this animal but admitted they were nice from a very far distance but right now. As a child she'd be told stories of people being trampled by horses from her mean older cousins who wanted to scare her and they had rightfully done the job. Plus there was also the actor who played superman who fell off a horse, she thought it best to stay as far away from them as she could get. Suddenly a rush of relief came over her as she heard someone coming and she was even happier to see the blonde she was so fond of coming to her side.

“Tara.” She whispered her voice low and almost as shaky as her hands were. “Oh, right food.” She nodded understanding and once Tara took her arm so gently she relaxed to the woman's touch and let her extend her arm out towards the beast. “I, I do trust you.” She nodded then closed her eyes as she slowly took a few steps forwards and felt the horse eating out of her hand, it was painless and was over pretty fast. Willow did peak out of one eye just to make sure nothing went wrong, when she thought it was safe to look again she wiggled her fingers. “They are all still there!” She grinned. “I did it baby!” She bit her lip, she took back her arm and folded it under herself. “I mean Tara, you helped me as always, like a team.” She nodded still smiling warm. “I don't know how I wound up in here, I was talking to the sun and all of a sudden this horse was snorting his big huge nostrils at me. I'm glad I didn't upset him and that you came to my rescue.” Turning towards Tara she couldn't help but throw her arms around the other woman and give her a hug.

Watching Willow slowly approach the horse Tara felt a lump form in her throat. Was the redheaded witch really going to be ok handling this? Things would be fine, horses with kind and gentle creatures, just like Willow. How could this possibly turn out badly? Besides the large animals seemed very friendly and well cared for here, she shouldn’t be running into an ill tempered one, should she? Realistically if she was going to run into an ill tempered horse, it probably all ready would have happened. Waiting with held breath Tara carefully watched the scene unfold before her and a smile spread over her lips as Willow fed the horse and the animal then trotted off contently.

Tara smiled softly at Willow exclamation of success, the old endearing term touched her heart, but she decided to let it pass for the moment. “Yes you did. I’m proud of you. Over coming your fears isn’t an easy task.” The smile remained as the blond witch listened to the red witch babbling on, it was so adorable. Tara wished there was a way she could capture Willow babble and store it for all the times she felt lonely. Pausing for just a moment before wrapping her arms around the other woman and returning the hug, nearly getting dizzy from the scent of Willow attacking her senses.

She never thought she'd be standing there with her arm out to such a beast, actually feeding the thing let alone enjoying the process but Tara had always made the scary not so much in her mind. She closed her eyes once it was through and took a deep breath as if it was the first real relaxing breath in her life. It was right now that she knew things would be ok not only with the furry creature she had just faced but with Tara as well. As Buffy once had sung it didn't matter they would get through it.

Willow had a warm smile for Tara and shook her head. "Nope, not easy at all but when you have something or someone to give you a little nudge along the way it helps tons." Leaning near the other she placed a thank you kiss on Tara's cheek sweetly. "My Hero." She said then clasped her hands together letting out dreamy sigh, then let out a giggle. “I think if you show me how, I can help you bring this horse here back to where it belongs?” She gave a nod of confidence.

Once the horses had been taken care of and Willow had an idea managing to convince Tara to going for a walk with her, which in fact took less convincing then the witch thought which made her happy, both women had the same weakness for each other even if things had been tense between them. Willow reached her hand for Tara's linking their fingers together as they walked through the field opposite the way she had come.

Willow stopped suddenly in no place in particular and flopped herself down to the ground and pulled Tara with her. She remember how back home they would at random stop in the park and watch the clouds, or star gaze at night. Though there was a lack of clouds there was still enough in the sky to pick out shapes. Willow squinted her eyes and turned her head and pointed up towards the sky. “Do you see the bunny?” She smiled and looked towards Tara in question.

The indirect compliment didn’t go unnoticed and a shy smile crept over the blond witches lips. Dropping her glance slightly hair covered her face for a moment. The kiss to her cheek caused Tara to look up, a slight blush covering her cheeks, a giggle also was produced at the comment of heroics. “Not big with the hero, but if you want to pretend I won’t stop you.” Tara giggled as well, slipping her hand out of Will’s in order to check on the horse carefully, making sure it was ready to head in she helped the red head direct the horse back into it’s stall. “See, not so bad, right?” Smiling at the other woman Tara couldn’t help the old feelings bubbling up in her mind and heart as they spent time together.

Agreeing to the walk had been easy, in fact even though it was a little awkward in some aspects the ideal of having something familiar and comfortable near was more then welcomed. Following along Will linked their fingers together and Tara allowed it for a little bit, before faking needing her hand back in order to straighten out her shirt. The blond witch didn’t directly want to say that she felt slightly odd at holding Willow’s hand right now since she knew it would be very painful, but holding hands for a bit and then needing the hand back for something else didn’t seem that terrible, did it?

Keeping her hand free had been surprisingly easy until Willow took it again, pulling her down onto the ground. A squeal had emitted from Tara’s lips as they fell towards the ground easily. Once laying in the grass she giggled a sweet smile spreading over her lips as eyes danced for Willow, her memories flooding with all the good times they had and how she desperately missed them, longed for them even. When the redhead pointed towards the sky it took a moment for her view to shift but then she followed the out stretched arm with a half smile spreading over her face. “Nope, it’s totally a kitty.” The comment had been a playfully joking challenge and her eyes sparkled with the joke as her view turned to look at Willow once more.

Knowing she had made Tara giggle so much filled her with a warmth she had almost forgotten, it made her sad and happy at the same time, she never wanted to forget that sound again and tried to plant it firmly in her head. "It's either that or being my kryptonite!" she giggled herself. "Thanks." She shook her head. "Nope not so bad."

"It's both you see they are snuggling!" She laughed. It was like living in a memory or maybe a dream, Willow couldn't help but lay as closely to Tara as she could without being on top of her. She gathered up Tara's arm and cuddled it close to her chest keeping it there for safety for a moment then let go in shame. "Oh..I'm sorry."

Willow sighed swallowing down her emotions in the back of her throat. "No wait I'm not..I want to be able to touch you and not have it all be awkward. We may have this odd relationship right now but, you're still my best friend and the only one I have here. Can it be ok for us to cuddle without so many permissions? Just a small may I? or a look of ok?" She questioned and was now on her side looking into Tara's dreamy blue eyes.

"I know I'm pushing you so hard.." She closed her eyes. "I know it's not easy for either of us, I guess I just get so carried away."

It was nice being able to be with Willow like this. Without the magic interfering. Granted magic was a strong part of both of their lives and Tara would never deny that, it flowed through their bodies with ease, yet at the same time it was a double bladed sword, something to love and be careful of at the same time. A smile spread over her lips at the kryptonite comment. Tara herself had never been a fan of comics but after being around Xander so much it was hard not to get the reference. “You’re welcome.” The signature half smile was given to the redheaded woman next to her as they continued to walk back towards the barn.

After laying down Tara didn’t mind the closeness, but Willow taking up her arm felt a bit strange. Not bad, but with all the confusion that was going on all ready with just being here… It was odd. Offering a weak smile the blond witch shifted her weight so that she could lay on her side to face the redhead but pulled the arm away from Willow slowly. “It’s, um, it’s ok.”

The look across the other woman’s face was a curious manner. Eyes examined the red head’s face as Tara searched for what was coming next. Emotions ran rampet within the other woman. Listening carefully brows furrowed, there was so much going on right now, and this. Touches, would offer comfort to the other woman… but there was still so much to deal with inside the blond witches own head right now. Thinking carefully she made sure to control her breathing until Will was done speaking. “I… I, um, right now. Not right this second. I mean.” A heavy sigh escaped her lips of frustration and brows furrowed further. “I, I understand and yes, it is awkward and… and I think if you… If you give me a little more time, to-to sort things out more, then… then yes, we can do that.” A weary smile was given to the other woman, she had just asked for a little space the night before. Time to figure out exactly what she was doing and where things were going to go, especially in this mess that they had been dumped into.

Brows furrowed again as she continued to lay on her side, facing Willow. Being close like this it was so, tempting to just kiss her. To feel those sweet lips on her own, remember how the others arms hugged her body when they embraced, the touches of the redhead when they made love. Memories floated in her mind causing her heart beat to pick up slightly. Licking over her lips to wet them Tara let out a slow and controlled breath. “You do. Um, push hard I mean. It’s… difficult for both of us you know Will. I never did this out of anger towards you. I did what I did out of my love for you Willow. It hurt me to leave but I knew I had to. For both of us.” Hesitantly the blond witch raised a hand, pausing for only a moment before caressing the other woman’s cheek gently with her fingers. “I hope you never doubted that…” Pausing she swallowed for a moment. “My love for you.”

Willow was terribly excited she knew the other woman was safe, blood pumped through her veins and her heart bated in her chest, Tara's energy was also high and pure as it always had been. She listened to the words coming off the other woman's supple lips taking in Tara's words and letting them process, this was difficult for the both of them, their reality was so different and now they were here in some strange world having to work through two very hard events together. She shook her head. “No, not this moment.” She smiled warm. “But you have to understand how hard this is for me, I've already gone through the break up once and to me it pales in comparison to losing you to the spirit world Tara. That's why I just want to touch you, to make sure you are still breathing, feel your chest heave against mine again. We are both struggling with two very different things here.” She paused for a moment.

“The fighting, the over use of magic, and you leavening are parts of our past and that's what they are to me our past, but for you they are our right now. Can you see where I'm coming from and why I am so eager?” She took a breath. “I don't know what time we have together more so then ever before...you leaving was what you had to do and I would have left me too.” She laughed lightly. When fingers were on her cheeks she took her hand and gently to Tara's to kiss the back of it. “Never, I never doubted your love for me, it's always been right here.” she took Tara's hand and placed it on her chest. “I never thought I'd see those blue eyes sparkle again, but I do. The darkness in me is gone I need you to believe..in me and us.”
