He found her on the roof.
She'd eaten lunch here, the box pushed off to the side so she could stretch out her legs and tilt her face back for the sun. Her hair was in two braids, and she was wearing the school uniform, collar loosened and skin damp with sweat.
When he coasted to a stop, she opened her eyes--his movements were nearly silent with that eerie, animal ease, but she knew them as well as she knew the tick of seconds, and as distinctly as fingerprints--and twisted to look up at him. "Agito-kun?"
He dropped into a crouch, squinting at the discarded Bento and the textbooks spilling out of her bag beside her. "You're studying? Up here?"
"I was." She said, flushing a little and moving to the side to make room in the minimal shadow. "It's too hot to concentrate."
That got her a slanting, cynical glance but after a second he dropped down and sat beside her, watching the lazy flight of birds taking advantage of thermal columns, coasting on hot air with their wings outstretched.
She searched for something to say, like don't you have class right now, why aren't you there, or why'd you come looking for me? She suspected Ikki was the answer to the first one--he was being particularly obnoxious this week, and when he roped Onigiri in there was only so much anyone would put up with--and she wasn't really willing to brave the second.
Instead she settled in for uncomfortable silence until he turned his head and let his forehead drop onto her shoulder.
"I like the way you smell." He muttered. She froze; he sounded half conscious, and he drew in a deep breath like an animal scenting prey, his temple brushing her bare neck and sending her heart into jackhammering overdrive.
"Thanks," she said, astonished at the steadiness of her own voice, "I guess."
She could see his ribs rise in a deep breath. Agito was lean and wiry, hard muscle packed onto a slim frame, and his arm pressed against hers was warm and damp with perspiration. There was barely enough breeze to move strands of hair into her eyes, and he curled into the side of her body like a kitten seeking heat despite the sweltering air.
"Okay." She said softly and nonsensically under her breath, and watched the shadows expand to her toes, counting each inhale and exhale he gave.
