The 2014 Ficathon is a go!

From Princess of Geeks:

Sign-ups are now closed for this year's ficathon.

We have 18 participants, a nice even number. Hurray.

I am super excited about this year and feel very ready to write. (In fact, I might even have already picked out the prompt I want for myself. Mods have their privileges, LOL. )

Assignments will probably be out a little early, because of the plans that have cropped up for me for the USA holiday weekend, so watch your email over the next couple of days.

Please let me know right away if there is any trouble with writing your prompt or if you have any questions.

And if the August deadline seems to fly right at you, just let us know your plans. If you have to post late, we can deal with that. Just don't disappear without explanation. I posted three months late once, and while I certainly don't recommend that, at least I did eventually post and that's the main thing.

Paian has made sure that all our past ficathons are accessible through the Archive of Our Own Jack/Daniel Ficathon Collection, and other writers have also been linking their own fic as they have time, which I think is a great idea.

Many thanks to the other people helping with this ficathon -- Paian, Green_Grrl, and Sid.

You should be getting your assignments shortly.

J/D 4 Evah.

Amateur Hour: The 2014 Jack/Daniel Ficathon

Timeline:
Sign-Ups Are Open: 10 June - 28 June 2014
Assignments Out: 3 July 2014
Stories Due: 14 August 2014

So, how does this work?
~ Comment here to sign up. Assignments will be sent out via e-mail. Stories will be due 14 August 2014. However, if you finish early, you can post and I'll leave your story in the moderation queue until the day the ficathon opens.
~ Keep your assignment secret until the deadline. We do suggest you get a beta.
~ If you have any questions about your assignment, contact the moderator, not the person you're writing for.
~ Stories must be at least 1000 words, but there is no upper limit.
~ Feel free to post either in the asylum, or somewhere else with a link to your story. More details about posting will be up closer to the deadline.
~ Join this asylum (and/or the comms at Dreamwidth and Livejournal) if you are planning on posting your fic here (or there). Sign-ups will also be accepted from non-members if you are planning on posting only at Archive of Our Own. All members have immediate posting access; posting is moderated so that the fic will all go live the same day.

Crossposting Policy
~ Please sign up once, here or on Livejournal or Dreamwidth. It does not matter which; all entries will be mixed together, so you may wind up writing for someone on another platform.
~ Stories may be hosted here, on Livejournal, Dreamwidth, Archive of Our Own, or any other website. Stories may be hosted on more than one site, but please provide all links. Here is the AO3 collection for the 2014 J/D Ficathon; it will open once assignments have gone out.
~ You may announce your story here, on the Dreamwidth or the Livejournal ficathon community, or at all three.
~ Once posting has begun, a Master Post of all stories will be created and posted to Insanejournal, Livejournal and Dreamwidth, so no matter where you post, everyone will be able to see it.

Defaulting, Dropping, and Extensions:
~ If you drop out without emailing princessofgeeks at hotmail dot com, you will be banned from participation for the following year.
~ If you need more time to finish, simply let us know. One of your mods once posted a story three months late. Stuff happens. If something comes up and you can't complete the ficathon, just let us know in advance of the deadline.

Sign-Up Form
Here is the sign-up form. You can specify two things that MUST be in your story, and one optional thing that you'd like to be in your story.

Your two requirements should be limited to items from this list:

a prompt, which might be a setting (examples: "an ice planet at night", "a plane trip to D.C.", "the Land of Light"), an object (ex.: "a letter", "a dog", "a new car"), a line of dialogue (ex.: "And then I shot her!"), and so on.
an episode or season: for example, "Beneath the Surface" or "season 5"
a genre: action/adventure, angst, established relationship, first time, humor, hurt/comfort, schmoop, UST, smarm, etc.
a rating: for our purposes, following the MPAA system, so G through NC-17

For your optional request, you can be as specific as you like (e.g., "Jack and Daniel are stranded on an ice planet and Teal'c and Vala come to the rescue, but only after Jack tells Daniel a deep dark secret"), but keep in mind that the writer won't be obligated to include that request in your story. The following things are very difficult to match up, and thus, should be under optional requests only: het, underage sex, mpreg, non-con, and a major focus on other characters.

Restrictions should be things you absolutely don't want in your story. You can specify up to two.

If you only want to fill out the requirement field, that's fine; you don't have to specify optional requests or restrictions.

As for the assignment you'll receive: please specify the maximum rating you'll write. You can write an actual rating here, or just "I'll write anything," "no sex whatsoever," "fade to black only," and so on. You can also list up to three specific things you won't write. If you've only seen up to a certain season, haven't seen earlier seasons, haven't seen the movie, etc., please make sure to note that, so we don't accidentally match you up with a season-specific request you can't write.

Note: If you list more than three things you won't write, only the first three will be weighed; if you list more than two requirements, only the first two will be passed on to your author. (We apologize if that sounds overly restrictive, but people go over every year, and that makes it difficult to match them up. Please stick to the limits.)

Your comment should look like this:

Name:
InsaneJournal/LiveJournal/Dreamwidth:
Email:

Two (2) Requirements:
Optional Request:
Restriction #1:
Restriction #2:

Maximum rating you'll write:
You won't write (#1):
You won't write (#2):
You won't write (#3):

Will you pinch hit?

Ficathon 2014

Hello! This is a copy-and-paste of an entry Princessofgeeks posted to the Dreamwidth side of the comm. She and Sid are currently your new mods. :-)

Here is a link to the DW post, so you all can read the comments over there. ETA: And here is a link to the Livejournal entry.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Melayne Seahawk, who ran this ficathon for several years, has decided that last year, which was the tenth anniversary, would be her last.
THANK YOU MELAYNE!!!!!
She has handed over the comm to (so far) me; that is, PoG, and sid. And green_grrl has also agreed to help -- particulary along with sid on the LJ side. (I don't have a fannish LJ any more, so that is great.)
I for one want to find a way to reach out to the fans who read and post on Archive of Our Own but who may not visit DW or LJ much.
So please comment here with your ideas, with your preferred dates, your willingness to volunteer, etc.
I am thinking that the basic format of the ficathon would remain the same -- submission of prompts, and then matching everyone with a prompt. A one-for-one fic exchange.
I also would like to get this year's even rolling as soon as humanly possible. I do not want it to run past Halloween at the absolute latest, and if I am involved next year (which I hope to be) I want to open the prompt submission period in, like, early May. I prefer summer ficathons. Early fall and the Christmas season are next to impossible for me to meet deadlines other than work. But of course I would bow to the preferences of the group.
What do you think?
