Eyes front, troopers! At some point over the last few days, each team would have the Vol Squad initiative explained to them by their leader. The basic details are that it will be a group of Vols assigned to doing IVF-chosen outreach missions of a humanitarian bent. It is explained that applicants must be 18+ and chipped, and have a fairly clean disciplinary record.
For details of how each Team Leader approached the subject, check below the cut!
EAGLES: Rene talked about it encouragingly and enthusiastically and encouraged everyone on his team to look into it. He has a few 17s, though, and would have been sympathetic to the fact that they couldn't and would have told them to come talk to him more if they wanted to.
BLACKBIRDS: Moshe talked about it but made it sound like a big deal and highly selective. Afterwards, he pulled Mimir aside to see if he had any questions and encouraged him to come to him if he wanted to discuss it any further.
MAGPIES: Silva glossed over it and mostly mentioned it in passing, but didn't make a big deal about it. If people had further questions she would have told them to come find her after training, but wasn't forthcoming with those conversations unless pressed.
BARN SWALLOWS: When Thayer told the Barn Swallows, it was clear that he really expected to see several of them join up. He stressed that this was their opportunity to really show the world how much good Vols can do, and frankly, to show the rest of IVI that their team was a quiet force to be reckoned with. Very clearly thinks that Barn Swallow representation on the squads will be a reflection of his own accomplishments.
FLAMINGOS: Wendell was pretty matter-of-fact about it. She acknowledged that she knew some people wouldn't be interested, and some people might not even be up for it, and that was fine. But that this was what they had been training for, and that she had the utmost faith that several Flamingos could make great contributions to the squads -- and the world, too.
LOONS: Slate gave a very intense half-pep, half-fear of God talk to the Loons. Telling them that they are a much more capable group of students than anyone believes, and that if they didn't take this opportunity to show everyone what they could do, she would be pretty disappointed in them -- but worse, they'd end up disappointed in themselves.
PEACOCKS: Rudd, unsurprisingly, started his speech with "Listen up, Cocks," and explained that Yael was the spitting image of a Vol who knew how to use their powers to her advantage, and that the rest of them should look to her to figure out what to do with their pathetic little lives. "If y'think you're up to the job, you're probably not. But we'll see." It's already pretty obvious that Rudd thinks that the girls on his team are, by and large, much more capable than the men, so that went without saying.
SWANS: Li explained to Swan that it would finally be the chance to leave campus and do humanitarian work, as many of them had requested it of her before. She talked about how great it would be for the rest of the world to be able to see what good work they could do, and encouraged her team to talk to her directly if they encountered any problems with the student leaders or if they had questions that they felt more comfortable talking to her about.
ROOSTERS: Wolfe obviously broached the subject early on since it's partially his baby, and wasn't shy about touting Sam's involvement and implying that he'd like to see a strong Rooster participation. He gave a somewhat rousing speech about how this is what they had been training for, and was a sterling opportunity to do good in this world. Rousing, at least, if you don't already think he's a dick.
PARAKEETS: Shin was sort of dismissive about the project, mentioning it offhand as if it were just part of the daily minutes. He seems to think it's more of a distraction than anything, but did imply that he'd support anyone who might be interested. But he wouldn't cut them any slack on the training front just because they're pulling double duty.
TOUCANS: Trask also detailed the project in his usual dry style, and spoke of it more objectively as something other teams might be doing. He did not seem particularly convinced it was something that the Toucans would be 'right' for, but left a stack of application forms on his temporarily inanimate desk.
RATHBORNE: As mentioned, Rathborne didn't mention this till Monday, possibly because someone caved and asked him about it. He would have given the CliffsNotes version of what's happening, and generally snorted at the idea that any Condors would make the cut when they couldn't even find their way out of a wet paper bag, let alone a ravine.
Now! If your character actually applied for the project, please comment here and let me know. And to save me an insane amount of cross-referencing, please let me know what you think the IVI network-watchers 'read' on their thoughts and opinions of IVF would be. Not all will be selected, but we'll try to finalize the roster by the end of the week!
