OPEN THANKSGIVING THREAD
WHO: OPEN TO ALL
WHAT: Thanksgiving, 2018
WHERE: Everywhere.
WHEN: Thanksgiving, 2018! ;)
RATING: TBA
STATUS: Open to all!

HOW THIS WORKS: This post is completely open. Do you want your character to celebrate Thanksgiving; or did you maybe want them to organize a small Thanksgiving celebration at their current safehouse? Did you just want them to reminisce about Thanksgivings past with a family member or friend? That's what this post is for!

If your post is for specific characters only, mark it in the subject. For example, if Lucy and I were to post with Allie and Ollie, we would put Allie and Ollie in the subject. But if we wanted to leave it open for others? We would say Allie, Ollie and OPEN.

Go crazy! And Happy Thanksgiving, folks! ♥

Kori shook her head at both of them. They didn't need to apologize for their comments on the Spam. "It's fine. Really." She said. It wasn't like either of them could do anything about what she could and couldn't get anyway.

Grinning Kori gave her brother a pat on the shoulder for being a trooper. "If I had been able to find a bottle of wine this would be cause for a toast." She teased. It wasn't every day she was able to get her brother to do something so against his personal standards and it deserved some memorializing.

There was a brief moment where Kori actually thought Brandon might get up. A feeling of dread sinking into her stomach at being left alone with her sister again. He'd just arrived and things were sort of better now. She didn't want him to go just because Lilah was distracted by something. Besides if that was the case she'd be along eventually anyway. There was no point in him leaving just for him to miss her.

"It's one of her favorite things plus I promised I'd show her how to knit this year. So she'll be here eventually." Kori added trying not to let the horrified feeling she'd felt translate into her expression. Not that it would matter Brandon and Leah probably saw it anyway.

"Kay," Brandon mumbled.

He really should have known that the fact that they were so determined for him not to go had less to do with not wanting him to go and more to do with not wanting him to leave the two of them alone together. However, of the Stone siblings, he was the least outright perceptive, so he was blissfully oblivious. Or maybe not so blissful as he carved off a piece of the slimy rectangular meat and forced himself not to flinch while he ate it.

So long as no one asked him how it tasted, he was okay.

"Attaboy and a pat on the shoulder? What am I, a dog?" he asked, his tone light and a smirk on his face so his sisters would know he was kidding. He was barely able to bite back a comment about how killing his insides was not worthy of a toast, but he did, and just trucked on like he always did.

The expression on Kori's face when she mentioned teaching Lilah to knit made him arch an eyebrow. "You all right, Squirt?" he asked her. "You look like a goose just walked over your grave or something."

Good. He wasn't leaving. That was very good. She hoped he (and Kori) didn't hear her sigh of relief as she relaxed back in her chair. Keeping Brandon there did have more to do with not wanting to be alone with Kori, but at the heart of it, Leah was truly thankful he was there.

She grinned when Kori patted him on the shoulder, which was followed by a question about whether he was a dog. "You are. But a cute one, so that makes it less insulting," Leah replied in a matter-of-fact tone.

When the youngest Stone spoke up about promising to teach Lilah to knit, Leah drew a long pull from her bottle of water to mask her bitterness. It shouldn't have bothered her, really. Leah hated knitting, and wasn't a huge fan of crafts in general. "See? No worries. Lilah will be here."

She wished Brandon hadn't called attention to the expression on Kori's face. Had Leah not been so adept at hiding her expression, she was sure it would've mirrored her little sister's. You didn't want him to leave either, did you? Setting down her water bottle, she picked up her fork again, turning her attention to the vegetables now that she'd gotten past the torture of the Spam.

Kori tilted her head her lips pressed together. She was pretty sure she'd just heard a sigh from her sister but she ignored it. No point in drawing attention to the shared feeling of relief. Brandon would probably pick up on it eventually but the longer he wasn't aware the easier it was for her to pretend.

"I could get you a collar if you'd like for Christmas," She teased carrying the joke a little further. But that was where she let it drop. Still she smiled at him for a second longer before turning her attention back to her plate of vegetables.

She shook her head. "I'm fine." Her gaze drifted to Leah before dropping back to her food. No point in irritating her. She picked up a couple more forkfuls of veggies and stuffed them in her mouth. Chewing she tried to find another line of conversation they could follow that wouldn't lead to more awkwardness. "Anything interesting going on in the world beyond these walls?" She asked which probably wasn't the best conversation topic but she was genuinely curious.

"Oh, ha ha. You two are so incredibly funny I think I'll laugh myself into a coma," Brandon quipped, no less amused as he looked between the two women. "If you get me a collar, it would just go to Cinnamon, though he's not big on collars so it'd probably just end up gnawed through and left somewhere in the dirt outside." His grin was playful.

Kori's question about what was going on outside was met with an indignant gaze from Brandon. Had she really just asked that? He wasn't sure if he was going to answer, so instead, he focused on filling his mouth with not-Spam food to keep it occupied. He needed a distraction.

As though on cue, Cinnamon dashed back into the room from where Regan had taken him for a quick walk. He'd been crying, and Brandon was already late, so he'd willingly let Regan take him and had hurried to meet with his sisters. Now, though, the tan husky was back and ready for attention. He barreled from the door up to the table, his paws on Brandon's leg as he sniffed at the contents of the plate. He should have been angry, but the dog picked only the thing he was least interested in from the plate, the Spam, obviously, and sat next to his owner, gnawing happily.

"Ha! Trained you well…" he was unable to keep himself from saying. "I'd be mad but that was just so brazen that I can't help but respect the courage…" he added with a wry smirk.

Leah smirked at Kori's suggestion of getting Brandon a collar. "A fine way to treat a gift from your sister. Giving it to the dog."

As per usual, when the uncomfortable questions arose, it fell to Leah to be the bearer of wisdom, such as it was. "Flesh-eaters everywhere. Same as it's been for the past few years, and nothing you need to go out and investigate." Being cooped up inside a building all day every day had to be difficult, but the alternative and the risks were much, much worse. As far as subject changes went, it wasn't her sister's most brilliant. If Kori got annoyed by her answer, at least she'd be annoyed with Leah and not Brandon. That was how things worked now, wasn't it?

Popping a carrot into her mouth, she looked around when Brandon's dog made his appearance. "Yeah, that and he's eating what you didn't want to eat. Why should you be mad at that?"

Kori simply rolled her eyes at Brandon. He could give it to Cinnamon she wouldn't take any offense at it. Although she would make sure she got him to wear it once before it became the husky's chew toy, of that much Brandon could be sure. "I don't mind as long he willingly puts it on first. I have to have something to remember the collar by."

Kori shot her sister an exasperated look, "Me? Investigate? Never, I have so much to explore here as it is." If it weren't for the kids and Tim, Kori probably would have gone stir crazy a week ago. But they kept her busy. She barely had time some days to even think about exploring the safe house let alone the outside world as she was dragging her butt to her bedroll. The outside world did hold a certain amount of mystery that she kind of wanted to explore. Not that it was smart but it was that whole forbidden fruit and temptation thing. So far she was doing marvelously well against the temptation.

Kori just laughed as the dog took Brandon's Spam. "You're one lucky guy to have a dog that loves you so much they'd subject themselves to processed meat for you. You better be planning on rewarding her for her sacrifice."

"Damn right. This neck is far too fabulous for a collar. I'll settle for nothing less than a silk scarf," Brandon continued to lighten the mood. Yeah, he had expected tension when he got there, but not that much. Retrospectively, though, maybe he should have. It was Leah and Kori he was talking about, after all. He stifled a joke about needing someone to lead him around with that collar, mostly because these were his freaking sisters.

The look Brandon wore on his face as Leah and Kori subtly sniped one another dripped with "cut it out," as he looked from the younger Stone sister to the older one. "Well, this is a very pleasant conversation and all but how about we change the subject, hm?" he suggested, not even bothering with subtlety. If he was subtle, they'd never cut the shit. He didn't see how Kori would want to be out there, but he also saw how she wouldn't want to be in here all day. Still, the topic wasn't one he wanted to stay on for long.

Thankfully, the distraction provided by Cinnamon was sufficient enough for now. "Hey, my dog objects to gender confusion," Brandon said to Kori when she called the dog a girl. "But yeah, he's a good boy. Eating what daddy doesn't like and doing it like a trooper. Didn't even slobber on anything else, either!" he smirked.

Leah laughed, both at Kori's determination to get Brandon to wear the collar just once, and Brandon's determination to avoid wearing said collar. "Dog collars are easier to find than silk scarves, so I guess you're stuck with the collar."

"Good. You just keep yourself in here with those kids you look after. Save the zombies for me." Narrowing her eyes at the look Brandon gave the both of them, Leah responded with, "Don't give me that look. She's the one who brought it up." She jerked her chin irritably as she dropped her gaze back to her plate.

It didn't stop her from snorting at Brandon's gender confusion remark about his dog. Usually, it was she who confused the gender. Nice change that it wasn't her this time.

It was impossible not to laugh when Leah said collars were easier to find. It wasn't a big ruin the whole moment laugh but it was for just the briefest of moments like the last few years had been wiped out and they were having a normal Thanksgiving dinner joking and having a good time when Kori laughed. And then the moment was gone and the awkwardness seeped back in as Kori sobered. Embarrassed she stared at her plate.

"Don't worry." She mumbled still not looking up although she'd caught a very brief glimpse of the look Brandon had shot her way out of her peripheral vision. "Sue me for being curious." Kori muttered an edge to her voice. Yes she brought it up but she just wanted to make conversation on something and it was the first thing that had come to mind.

She patted her thigh for the dog to come to her so she could apologize. Scratching him behind the ears as she said, "Sorry about that Cinnamon. I'm just a little tired."
