Who: Aurora Kaye, Jonah Bryce
When: Late Afternoon
What: A market near the Eavesdown Docks

The noise and bustle of the market place seemed unending as the pair maneuvered through the busy stalls. Despite her shopping trip of the day before, Aurora found her gaze again lingering longingly on items displayed from all reaches of the system. Today's venture into commercial exchange was all about the ship, but that fact didn't stop her from coveting the things she spotted for herself. She paused to enjoy the smell of spices at one stand, wishing that she hadn't wasted the bulk of her spendings the previous day.

"Isn't this fun?" Aurora asked her companion in her mission, glancing up at Bryce with a wide smile. From her tone it was clear that this was less a question than a confident assertion of fact. The captain had given her permission the other day to whisk her second-in-command off in the name of getting a good bargain, and Aurora was intending to make good use of his presence.

"I think I spy him over there," she added, pointing at a large man who stood somewhat to the side of the chaos of buying and selling. Flat metal objects littered the makeshift table in front of him, glittering in the afternoon sun. These were clearly his wares on display, items Aurora was determined to secure for the Huria.

Joy. That's the very sarcastic thought which passed through Jonah's mind when he was assigned to babysit the new engineer. He didn't like being assigned to people, he liked being of use not taking the newbies out for a walk. Still, it was a chance to stretch his legs and get to see the market in its full glory. Even if he did have his charge with him.

With a little resigned sigh Jonah continued to stroll with her, arms folded and not looking very at ease. "Fun. Yes." Very well to humour her. His idea of fun was not walking around trying to get a good bargain during a shop - it was sucessfully completing a task, a challenge, a job... "You're not planning to steal anything are you? Cause I really don't want to get in a brawl when we still got a few days left here. Especially not with that guy."

Gesturing to the fella she had pointed out previously, he then checked himself. "Not that I couldn't win. Of course I could I just... y'know. Would rather save my fists for a more worthy cause..."

Blissfully oblivious to any hint of irony in the second-in-command's voice, Aurora continued to stride confidently through the bustle to the man in question and his wares, her pace quickening in anticipation. Jonah's question, however, brought her up short. She stopped abruptly, nearly colliding with several customers in the process.

She flushed and turned to regard him with a mutinous expression on her face. It was not the suggestion that she might steal that stung her, but rather his implication that she would do so unsuccessfully. "I'll have you know I've made off with rings from the fingers of top Alliance law enforcement and left them none the wiser."

Confident that she had made her point she rapidly adopted a suitably respectful tone, brushing aside her momentary fit of pique. "And I know you would win. That's the point. You just need to stand behind me and look... menacing." Aurora concluded brightly, still convinced this plan of hers was a brilliant one.

Oh-ho, wasn't that slightly disrespectful? Jonah liked his crew to note that he was second in command even in their extra curricular activities, and as this was half a duty that he had to complete he was very surprised when she reeled on him like that. "Well, if you've done that it makes sense that you're here on a simple cargo ship now," he said idly, then added as an explanation - "I'd have made off with their wallets."

He had no time for self-assuring outbursts and his tone was final on that score. "Remind me why I need to babysit you?" A piece of lint was flicked from his jacket. "You've tackled Alliance and yet you need me to stand behind looking threatening for what reason exactly? It's a piece of metal he's selling, not the jewel of the skies."

Aurora couldn't decide if she more insulted on her own behalf or the Huria's. A simple cargo ship! She seethed internally, but managed to bite her tongue, shoving her hands forcefully into her jacket's pockets. She stood regarding him silently, slowly counting backwards. At the age of 24, she had made little headway in her lackadaisical efforts at controlling her temper; that childish trick was one of the few that worked for her with even moderate success.

"I need you," she began in a measured tone, "because I don't think the captain would look kindly on me simply making off with equipment. 'Specially on a planet crawling with law enforcement." Her tone shifted as she spoke, and she glanced uneasily around her as if the very mention of officers could conjure them up like a malevolent charm.

"And men like him there... well, they tend to try and drive a hard bargain with people--" Aurora paused, searching for a word that was accurate but not self-disparaging. Admitting shortcomings was always a struggle for her, no matter how minor they might be. "--less than intimidating in appearance," she finally finished.

"If he gives me any nonsense about the price going up since yesterday, you just need to scowl and make a move towards your holster." She perked up visibly at this, the anticipation of a good bargain and new equipment going a long way towards dispelling her pique.
