Thor wasn't sure he liked this place as well as the last one. The first place Ninkasi had taken him had been quite cold, up in the mountains, so high that it was hard to breathe. They were fun people who told stories about abominable monsters in the snow and loved to laugh. Then they'd gone down the mountains and east into a land that was lush and hot. The humidity had been ridiculous, but the people generous and the food fantastic even if it was spicy. Maybe that's why their gods had extra arms, to fan their mouths while eating it. Though he still couldn't figure out why some of them were blue. From there, they'd gone west again, back through the mountains and into a land of silk and beauty. Even they way they wrote and moved was an art form. They had some very definite rules about fighting and honor, but they took both seriously and Thor appreciated that. Though he hadn't much appreciated eating with sticks, that was just weird. This place though?
Well, it was hot like India had been, but not humid. The environment seemed very harsh, and the only time Thor was really comfortable was at night when the temperatures dropped to a level that felt normal to him. And thus far, he'd met some interesting people who had animal heads instead of human ones sometimes. He wasn't totally sure how he felt about that. It was kind of uncomfortable to see a cat with breasts like that.
Ninkasi had promised this next visit would be a good one though, some really smart god that she said she adored. He couldn't pronounce the name, but it sounded like a sneeze to him, so he figured it would be better if he didn't try. She'd gone to arrange the visit, leaving Thor to his own devices, and he decided that meant moving as little as possible in the desert heat. He'd found a small oasis, and was currently reclining under a small tree to take advantage of the little shade it provided. He was just going to stay right there until Ninkasi came back.
At least, that had been the plan until he heard the screaming. It hadn't started like something that he thought he needed to concern himself with, the sounds had been rather low and just barely caught his attention. But that escalated suddenly to full out panicked female cries, and Thor was on his feet before he'd even fully made the decision to investigate. But of course he was going to. He couldn't not help, it wasn't in his nature.
Long legs carried him through the sand, though he knew he'd be faster on solid earth. The shifting nature of the ground beneath him made it difficult, and that caused a fair amount of frustration to begin building. By the time he reached the small village with the harder paths, Thor's vision was starting to go a bit blurry around the edges, and he knew that meant an episode was imminent. So he might as well put it to good use and hurt whoever was hurting that woman.
He found the hut, and the woman, but it wasn't a who that was threatening the mortal. It was a what. And that what was about to attack a pregnant mother. Mjolnir was in his hand with a thought, and he pointed it at the vile creature, announcing in the few words of Egyptian that he knew, “You! Stop! NOW!”
