Unexpected Turn Of Events [ancient times] (tag: Frigg)
This was not something Odin had anticipated. It wasn't even in the realm of reasonable expectations.
Laying there beside Frigg, he had come to one rather astonishing conclusion- he didn't want her to leave. Not in terms of wanting further companionship for the night, but in the long-term view of not wanting her to leave ever.
How had she done that? Odin had graced so many beds he had lost count long ago. None of them had ever meant anything more than what it could gain him. Initially it had started out the same with Frigg. She had a gift, something he could certainly use to his advantage. Lure her to his bed at Valaskjolf, hook her heart, and see what knowledge he could gain. Never mind that he knew she had her own agenda. He'd get what he wanted and move on. And perhaps she would be a little wiser herself in trusting so easily.
Yet what it had boiled down to was that somehow or other, Frigg had captured his heart. Which posed several problems, not the least of which was that he was married to her mother. It was a marriage of convenience and necessity to secure his position as ruler, and he felt little for Jord. She was mother to his strong son, and that was about it. He'd not even decreed her to be Lady of Asgard. He did not expect he ever would. He was also fairly certain that his position was now secure enough to leave the bonds of that marriage should he choose to do so.
Odin knew Frigg had set lofty goals for herself, and while he didn't think she would object to a suggestion of changing the status of their relationship, he knew it wasn't prudent to enter a one-sided relationship. Odin had absolutely know way of knowing where her own feelings lay. A woman's heart was something he thought he would never grasp, no matter the wisdom he might gain.
Looking over at the object of his musing, Odin took Frigg's hand. "Do you want to go home?"
