Wow. Believe me when I say I am totally blown away. This was a gripping read from the beginning, with the tale told from the little girl's point of view, and it utterly sucked me in. The character sketch and the dilemma they're in was brought out especially well. And the ending was beautifully bittersweet. It seems right that the change and development in their relationship, their understanding of one another, and their new contentment, should be contained within the hut, even though it was painful to read.

Until the end, I bore hope that Harry and Draco (being Harry and Draco) would find a way to circumvent the trap, and live happily ever after with the little girl *g*. Of course, the end is still cheerfully ambiguous, so perhaps I shall take the happier ending for a nice bedtime story before I retire to bed.

I had to go away and think about this story, and then I recced it to a friend who's not a big H/D fan (who really enjoyed it too), and then it stayed on my mind until I had to read it again. And I just had to write about it in my journal. So I thought I should post it here, since the chance that you follow my journal is slim to none, and I really want you to know how much this story affected me.

I think my favourite fic of the WC so far might be Lamp in the Cooling Room. I actually groaned when I realised that the POV in this story was a six-year-old female OC. This author (and I think I might possibly know this one, which if it's right will tickle me because I'm still haven't read enough to recognise styles yet) somehow managed to win me over in just a few hundred words, and I can't imagine a better way to tell this story. The suspense is ramped up through snatches of overheard conversation and little hints of concern and fear, and it's all so real that the ending becomes that much more powerful. It's an extraordinary read, a story that I'd recommend to anyone, even if they're not H/D fans.

So yeah, I love this story.

Amazing story!

I loved how you managed to keep the girl's POV throughout the whole story and still managed to keep both Harry and Draco IC.

Brilliant!

Okay, that ending just devastated me. I was hoping they'd make it. But at least the boys had each other in the end.

Thinking back and even allowing for a certain amount of precociousness, the little girl did seem a tad unbelievable in her grasp of the situation and her ability to understand what she was reading/seeing in the grown ups. That said, I suspended my disbelief while reading (where it mattered) and so truly enjoyed the story. The idea of such a magical trap- great. The characterization of Harry and Draco as seen trough a stranger's eye- great. The ending- great. No, Perfect.

In short, a great story!
Thank you.

Extraordinary! Quite, quite remarkable, and so riveting. But the clapping at the end? That was Harry and Draco walking out through the door, wasn't it? Please.

This is not only the best story I have read in the woldcup but the best story I have read in the past I don't know 3 months. That's saying something too because I am already into Snarry_games. At first was unsure about the POV but you did it perfectly. I like seeing Harry and Draco from her eyes and it's just "her" because we don't even know her name. I love that she sees Draco as brave that touched me so much. The sex scene I was a bit nervous about at first because it was being overheard by a child, but then as I kept going it got kind of hot. Then I started crying as she described there kiss and how she didn't know people kissed for that long. I kept crying more till the end of the fic and even now I am still a little *sniff*.

I want so much for this to end happily and for Draco and Harry to escape together. I love an ambiguous ending though and I think maybe for right now or until otherwise I will think of them dieing in one another's arms. SHIT! Now I'm crying again. Ok maybe I'll think them getting out together ending.

Beautiful amazing spectacular job!

OK, just because I'm leaving a third comment on this story does not make me a stalker. Does it? Ahem. It's not my fault, honestly. Your story grabbed me and won't let me go, so I finally had to write a few drabbles to try to quiet it. They're here. I really hope that you don't mind me doing this -- in no way am I claiming that this is how you envisioned the end. I just intend it to be a tribute to your gorgeous story.

I can't thank you enough for these. They are each gorgeous -- both haunting and uplifting. Of course I don't mind that you've written them, or that you've envisioned a continuation for the story. I consider your efforts the most sincere form of flattery there is. ♥ Thank you, thank you.

So, I kinda feel like this might be one of the best things I've ever read. The impact of it was incredible, just wow. And I'd like to be able to leave some kind of articulate comment, but it's not going to happen tonight! I loved this, and it's staying with me. I read it a while ago and didn't comment at the time, and have only remembered some missed comments tonight - but it's stayed with me all that time as a story that's got claws in my brain. So good.

I know why you left the ending ambiguous. It makes sense in the context and the story is even more haunting because of it.

I'll never write my own ending to this story, but I know what I want that applause to mean. Even though there's this part of my imagination that takes the opposite path.

So I'm surfing for recs and I find this one. Obviously I missed something before. Wow. I love the little girl... does she even have a name? Belle would be just right wouldn't it. But oh! The end! I am choosing to believe that the clapping is them slowly coming out together after her. Yep. That's what I choose... cause anything else is :P and makes me want to sob. Well done.

Thank you so much. :D I'm thrilled you enjoyed it. The girl doesn't have a name -- I didn't even name her in my head, actually. But yes, Belle would have been perfect. ;)

Thanks again for reading and commenting. :D
