Tuesday Lunch [Backdated? Backtimed? *shrug*]
Apart from those few stragglers who'd decided to get a leg up on revising for exams, the Great Hall was relatively deserted. Despite the dearth of students, however, Severus found himself looking up at the slightest movement from the direction of the door. He hadn't seen Linton or Miss Lamb yet, though truth be told, he and Sappho were fairly early. Still, he was starting to grow a mite worried.

Sappho could use a friend besides him, and so he was very much hoping that she and Miss Lamb would get on. On the other hand, they'd never have a chance to find out how well they got on, if the other couple didn't bother to show up. He was just beginning to wonder if one could actually be said to be 'stood up' on a double date when Sappho spoke, and he turned his head back toward her, eyebrows raised.

"Hmm?" he asked, not wanting to admit that he hadn't really heard what she'd said.

[Open to anyone staying at school for Easter, but especially to Sappho, Neville, and Luna.]

"I was asking what you were thinking about just now. You seem overly preoccupied. Are you worried about this meeting?" she asked, taking his hand in hers. Sappho blinked rapidly as she looked at him. She was concerned that Severus would end up feeling very hurt if this scheduled get-together didn't go smoothly.

He exhaled, shaking his head with a small smile. Sappho knew him so well -- already. "I am, as a matter of fact. Though more for your sake than my own." Severus shrugged and slipped his arm about her waist. "I know it's probably silly of me, because once they get to know you, you'll charm them every bit as much as you've charmed me." He gave her another smile, but then leant closer and lowered his voice. "I just know how shy you are, and how difficult it is for you to make friends. And I want you to have some friends, too. Or at least friends your own age."

She smiled, then hugged him. "You're so sweet and kind, caring for me so. Thank you," she said, sounding a little choked up. Sappho pecked his cheek. "You're especially kind to think I'm so charming. No one else would say that about me." She pulled back and placed her hand on his cheek. "And I'm nowhere as charming as you, my Prince."

Severus sniggered, squeezing her back. "I don't know about that. You're pretty damned charming." He shrugged then, before attempting to dismiss the idea that there was anything out of the ordinary about his looking out for her, though he couldn't quite explain away the colour that was presently rising in his cheeks. "I can't really help caring for you, you know. After all you've done for me? It's only fitting." He looked up again, as he saw somebody else enter the hall, but then frowned and sighed at being disappointed once more. Of course, it was only ten to twelve.

"What time were we supposed to meet them?" Neville looked back at Luna and tilted his head. He really couldn't remember. Had they said twelve? Or before twelve? All he could seem to recall was the twelve. He was starting to get angry with himself for not being able to remember. "From now on I'm going to have to write things down!"

He took Luna's hand in his, mainly because he liked doing that and she didn't seem to have any onjection to it, and stopped outside the Great Hall. "I know that I've been meeting him every week...but he's still so scary!" His voice was low enough so that no one else could hear him. "Are you sure that you don't mind eating with them today?"

"Why would I mind eating with them? Well, unless they have horrid table manners or something like that? It was my idea to have lunch with them, after all," she replied. "Hopefully, you won't feel so scared today with two other people, counting me." Luna gave him a reassuring smile and walked into the Great Hall, towing Neville along with her. When she spotted Snape and his companion standing right inside the door, she waved at them with her free hand. "Hello! How are you, Severus?"

The next time Severus looked up, he wasn't disappointed. Linton had just entered, or rather, he was being dragged in on the end of Miss Lamb's hand. He still looked a little nervous -- even after all the time they'd spent brewing together. Severus tried not to be disheartened that he still seemed afraid of him. Of course, he was painfully aware of how intimidating he could be when he tried (especially with the younger students), but he made a point to be as non-threatening as possible in Linton's presence.

And speaking of being non-threatening, he and Sappho hadn't made their way to a table yet. He imagined Linton wouldn't care for the idea of sitting at the Slytherin table, even mostly deserted as it was. Severus planned to suggest the Ravenclaw table, since it was Miss Lamb's House and rather neutral territory. When the other two were more than a few feet inside the door, Severus raised his hand in greeting, though not an outright wave. That would be a little less than dignified.

"Hello," he said, when they reached where he and Sappho stood. "I was thinking of sitting at the Ravenclaw table today, if that's all right with the two of you?"

"That would be fine with me," she said. "Would that be all right with you, Neville?" Luna was all smiles, her eyes and teeth twinkling. She was thrilled about having this friendly outing with Neville, Snape, and someone new. It had the potential for becoming a regular occurrence.

It would be odd to sit at a table other than the Gryffindor table. In all his time in school (both of them) he'd always sat there. However, it wouldn't do to try to force people to sit somewhere other than they were comfortable. And he knew that Luna would be most comfortable there - although one of the things that he liked about her was that she was comfortable anywhere - and so he nodded. "That's fine." He smiled, looking down at Luna. He knew how excited she was - it'd be nice for her to have a friend (a real one) other than him. Not that he minded spending all his time with her. He rather liked it.

Luna gave a quick nod before leading the group to the Ravenclaw table. She sat down near the head of the table as the three or four other Ravenclaws were seated near the center and the other end. It wasn't that she liked to keep her distance from her housemates, but rather that she thought Neville and Snape would be more comfortable some added privacy. "You can sit next to me, Neville. Severus, you and your girlfriend can sit across from us, if you like," she said.

"All right," Severus answered, smiling, despite the blood presently rising in his cheeks. He placed his hand on Sappho's back, between her shoulder blades, to guide her toward the table settings Miss Lamb had indicated. If either Linton or Miss Lamb noticed his gaffe of saying 'today,' they hadn't let on. It was rather presumptuous to say that, implying that there might be more joint lunches to come. On the other hand, his teaching Linton to brew had been going swimmingly so far -- in spite of the other boy's nerves. If lunch today went even half so well, he imagined Sappho would have somebody she could truly call a new friend before long. Smiling again at the thought, he sat down at the Ravenclaw table and held out his hand to help steady Sappho whilst she climbed over the bench to sit as well.

Neville smiled and let Luna take control of the place settings. To be honest, it didn't really matter to him where they sat. The hardest part for him with being around Snape was that he always had to watch his tongue. Several times he'd called the boy Snape - instead of Severus like he was trying to remind himself to do.

Sitting down next to Luna, he closed his eyes for just a second and reminded himself, once more, to be careful. He didn't want to mess up and say something about the future or anything like that. He and Snape had been getting along rather well - much better then he'd thought that they would. After all, he was still terrified of him. And he never knew what to say around him. So, he sat there, quietly, waiting to see what the people around him would say.

Sappho moved along as Severus guided her to their seats. His hand felt so nice on her back that she was almost sad when he took it off. Once the other two had taken their seats, she smiled nervously at them and squeaked, "Hello." She had not yet been properly introduced to Miss Lamb, so she figured she should attempt to get the ball rolling.

Severus couldn't help smiling at Sappho timid greeting. In truth, he had expected it, especially since she hadn't met Miss Lamb as yet. From what little he knew of the girl, however, he also was fairly certain Sappho had nothing to worry about. "Ah, this is my girlfriend, Sappho Duncannon," he said, slipping his arm about her waist again to reassure her. Then he nodded across the table. "You know Linton, of course. And this is his girlfriend, Luna Lamb."

She smiled again when Snape introduced her to Sappho. "Hello," she said back. "Pleasure to meet you." Luna started serving herself some shepard's pie and pumpkin juice. "I'm really glad that we're all here together and talking. I think it's great that we're able to do the sort of things friends do, despite being from different Houses and Neville and I being new students. Others could learn from our example."

He gave Miss Lamb a fairly sad smile. "Well, to be perfectly frank, neither Sappho nor I have had the best of luck making friends with the other students. At least least the two of you didn't have any pre-conceived biases against us because we're in Slytherin." Severus stopped talking then, frowning a bit. This was supposed to be a fun gathering, and there he was, already putting a damper on their lunch with his blasted moodiness. He didn't how Sappho put up with him, most days.

That was kind of funny. No preconceived notions because they were in Slytherin. Back in their time, Neville wouldn't have even dreamed about having lunch with a Slytherin. As it was, he couldn't believe that he was sitting here eating, talking with Snape. And even the people that were in Slytherin back home, he refused to talk to. But that was mainly because they were horrible people. But, he didn't need to think about how much he wanted to hex Malfoy right now. This was about talking to people, and helping Luna make new friends. "No, Luna and I tend to be rather easy to get along with. We try not to judge others." Although, they knew what Snape was like in the future and so they were trying to help keep that from happening. "What do you guys like to do for fun around here?" He really hoped that they didn't say torturing baby animals or something equally mean.
