When Gaming Isn't Fun Anymore
In a short span of five months, I am burned out on WoW. I can't take any more of the overinflated epen0r or ebewbies, the constant 'ur mom' insults, the God awful grammar and spelling skills, the guild drama, the personal attacks, the whining, begging, scamming, spamming...need I go on?

A friend of mine called WoW 'The AOL of MMORPGs'. He was right. I mean, has anyone read most of the posts on the WoW boards? My God, for a game spouting it is the largest MMORPG in the world, the majority of the community sucks ass.

All I wanted to do was play a game and have some fun, relieve stress, enjoy something. But no, it has become a chore and has lost the shimmer it used to have. I think after Valentine's Day, I am going to suspend my account and call it a day. My logic is this - if a game isn't fun anymore, there is no point playing it. I have quit RPGs in the past for the same reason, and I haven't went back to them since.

I'm sure there are other rpg's out there, but to be honest, I'm kinda burned out on the very idea of even playing a game at all. Anyone else had this problem?

In hindsight, it was fun while it lasted.

I'll get burned out on one particular game after a while... just uninstalled Diablo II after playing it for months. But I tend to be playing a computer game and a PS2 game at the same time, so I'll just wait until I get bored and want to start something new.

That's how I was with Final Fantasy XI. A lot of people were so obnoxious. Of course, it might've just been my server at the time; a friend had a much better time on another different one.

...Another different one. My grammar is ftw in the morning.

I had that problem with FFXI too. I had an on again off again relationship with that game, as well as WoW. I'd play, then take a month-long break, then play, then take a month off again. And right now I haven't played in...about 2 weeks.

I've seen my fair share of guild drama, but right now I'm in a fantastic guild with fun people and the very occasional spat which I just ignore. But I have gone through stages of wanting to just give up, but admittedly the addiction is stronger. Erm, even moved servers with our mains ... but luckily it worked out really well.

I figure everyone gets MMORPG burnout. It just happens because of, well, the "MMO" part. Usually as long as you find a guild or friends you can hang out with or some kind of goal you can work on, you can generally ignore the rest of the public. Sometimes. But after a while... yeah, you just need to give the game a little time out, do something else, and if you come back, you come back. If you don't, you don't, and it's money saved!

In my case, I used to love playing Gunbound, but only, only when it was with my friends. Because it seemed like every other player besides me and my friends were "lol n00b" spewing idiots that could find some way to whine about whatever vehicle it was you chose to use (heaven forbid if you were a Grub fan like I was). It was just stupid and when my friends stopped playing, so did I.

The same thing happened to me. I stopped playing Warcraft September 2006 because it getting to feel more like a chore than a form of entertainment. My boyfriend just convinced me to start again, so now I'm giving it another shot. I definitely needed the break, though.

I usually turn off Trade chat, and General chat in some areas like the Barrens, etc. Helps to avoid the "ur mom" and "chuck norris" bs.

Late last year, my guild had a huge nuclear meltdown of a fight, and most of our members left. It was an incredibly stressful time - the game has a big family element for me, as I play with my brothers and their partners. Well, it was my bro and his gf that ran the guild and when they split up, things went downhill, leading to aforementioned meltdown. My bro was ready to disband and quit the game, but my other bro managed to convince him to hand over GM'ship. My other bro and I worked our asses off to remake the guild... and I gotta say, we're 10 times the guild we were before. Everybody, me and the other officers included, have just the right balance between game knowledge, and saying "it's just a game", and it's an amazing group of people.

Of course, I'm only in this guild and playing Horde because of another huge social meltdown on my Alliance toon...

Anyway. You're likely to hear lots of stories for and against MMOs. The main thing is that you make the choice that's right for you, and I applaud you for being able to step away from the game and say "enough" :)

I tend to alternate between WoW and LoTRO, because I get burned out if i play one or the other two long. And as someone suggest. I do tend to turn off Trade and Barrens chat, because the maturity level is negative.

I also avoid the Forums like they were the plague. I get alot of the Warrior wank because My husband spends alot of time on the Warrior forums, since he plays one.
