Fanart Preview:
Momo likes cute girls, but he thinks he likes An best of them all. Sure, he knows prettier girls than her but An is the only girl he knows that actually likes tennis--and not just for the sake of cute boys playing it, but because she genuinely loves the game.
She also plays tennis, and if there’s anything that Momo likes more than girls and eating, that’s tennis. That is why aside from the other Seigaku team members he enjoys spending time with An the most.
The fact that she is cute and funny is just a side benefit—-and he tells that to anyone who asks, too. He gets angry when Kaidoh randomly comments: "Whatever helps you sleep at night." when he overhears him talking about it to Ryoma and Eiji, and initiates a fight with the viper which ends with Tezuka-buchou giving both of them twenty laps to run.
Still, Momo tries not to think about too much about what Kaidoh had said, because what does that stupid viper know, anyway? Not like Kaidoh has any girls that spend time with him because they want to.
And definitely not any as cute as An.
Momo doesn’t even notice the fact that he ends up going to the street tennis courts more and more frequently after practice, and that An shows up more and more often, too.
They don’t make arrangements about meeting there, but it happens anyway.
Momo always plays tennis, while An sometimes just watches and otherwise plays with or against him (depends on who they team up with, really). Momo likes to have An watch him when he plays: it makes him play harder and better, and maybe his style of playing on those occasions is flashier and he behaves cockier than usual but if An notices, she doesn’t comment--she comments on his play, instead, and she doesn’t hold back with her criticism.
"Tachibana’s little sister, are you coming tomorrow?" he asks every night when he’s putting away his racket, a towel on his shoulders, practically dripping with sweat and grinning at her as she watches him, sometimes just amused from having watched him play all day, and other times just as tired as he is because she spent the day playing as well.
"Who knows," she says and smiles teasingly, every time. As an afterthought, she adds: "And don’t call me Tachibana’s little sister."
He laughs and they part ways, him waving at her as he gets his bike, and she heading in the opposite direction, waving at him as well.
Only when Kamio comes with her is that routine ever broken. Kamio is jealous and possessive and his anger directs at Momo every time, so Momo doesn’t look forward to him coming as well. Momo thinks Kamio’s an idiot because instead of trying to chase away any boys that like An, Kamio should just tell An how he feels about her and see what happens next.
But Momo doesn’t bother to offer that piece of advice to Kamio because that would mean Kamio would show up at the street tennis courts every time An did, or worse: An would stop coming altogether and Momo doesn’t want that.
An doesn’t seem to be bothered by Kamio’s possessiveness and over-protectiveness, though. Instead, she encourages it, and sends a look that Momo can only identify as amused, gloating and flirty into Momo’s direction whenever Kamio has one of his temper tantrums--that look makes Momo’s stomach flutter and he wants to grab An by the arm and drag her off and kiss her until she’s breathless and speechless.
But he never does—Kamio would kill him before he would manage to even touch An.
