The period of time from November 1st until I go on my holiday break always stinks, with the exception of Thanksgiving. I had a lovely time, by the way. I visited my aunt, and we had 17 people for dinner (my aunt Maryjean, her husband, two sons and one grandson, my uncle Bobby, his girlfriend, one daughter, one son-in-law and two grandkids, my uncle Donny, his wife and their two daughters, and my uncle Jay. How long should I wait for an answer after asking someone if they would be willing to beta a fic of mine?

I'm asking because my Yuletide support group buddy already heard back from the person she asked and she asked later than I did. I've been waiting for two/three days now, and I know that I am online far more often than other people, so I really don't know if it's reasonable to get a little nervous or if it's still normal response time. I've also written to people before who just didn't notice my message and wrote back to say sorry after a couple of months, so ...

They're doing inspections next week, so I spent more than I should have to get cleaners in. So that was me having to be awake from around noon to around two. But it doesn't stop there, because I am expecting a Hookah-Shisha.com package from UPS, and the only way I can be sure of getting a UPS delivery without a hitch is by having the door open. Thankfully, the screen door latch is fixed! But UPS is yet to arrive, although the tracking info says all is well.

Did I mention that it's raining and chilly? 43 may not be cold in New England in December, but it is in Texas. And the rainy, especially, makes me stiff and sore.

I've got semi-plans with doombuggie, but if UPS doesn't show soon they won't be able to happen :( I'm miserably cold and stiff anyway. I just want to be warm.

Just got back from first day at work, which consisted of mostly boring theoretical training.

Awesomepoints: only the porter misgendered me, everybody else who adressed me in a gendered fashion today already knew me from last year. My temp ID card was correct, too. These little things mean the world.

I met ex-colleagues in the cafeteria and did social things, like talking to people. Really looking forward to proper work tomorrow (and meeting my two favourite superiors again).

Not-so-awesomepoints: I'm dead tired. Seriously. I'm gonna check my feeds and email, and then I'm off to bed.

PSA: I have the late shift for at least two weeks from now, which suits me just fine. (I liked working nightshifts a lot, as evidenced in this IJ entry from 2008. Also, getting up early would kill me.) However, it has the disadvantage of being online less often, and thus chatting/commenting not as much as I used to. If you don't hear a peep from me for the next days or weeks, it's because of work effing up my sleep schedule / leisure time / energy levels. (Sadface.)

I unfortunately do not have an icon gayer then Cecil but be assured that when I post with this icon, whatever it is that I am going to blog about is going to be 100% homosexual! And oh boy it is.

It started with the fact that I kept getting yahoo news feeds about Adam Lambert's oh so shocking AMV performance. I mean the critics were really harsh and so okay, I don't normally follow American Idols, in fact I generally and purposely try not to because to me American Idols is really just very.. generic.. But I decided to download the album, y'know.. just to see if it was any good.

It is, my friends, the most homosexual album on the face of the planet. No seriously, it is. And "For Your Entertainment" must be the king of all homosexual songs. The line "I'm gonna ride you until you blow"? yeah, that gave me a few warm fuzzies inside. So yes, I really do like the album alot and most of it has been tagged for "my favorites" on my ipod.

I was giggling over the song all the way home from work where two muses were expressly fighting over who got to use the song. We had a winner but there was alot of really dirty fighting involved and loser went home to said lick his wounds. OH WELL.

It's a really great dirty song, it really is. Well worth that people's sensibilities were sacrificed in the making of the song. You know what, good on him. The world needs a little more homoeroticism.

Abortion is illegal under most circumstances in Northern Ireland. Women in NI pay the same taxes for the NHS as people in the rest of the UK, but when they need to have an abortion, they have to travel to the mainland at their own expense, find a private clinic, and pay for their own abortion. They're not allowed to access NHS services, even though they're UK taxpayers.

There's currently a petition to the Prime Minister (whoever that may be in October 2010) to demand redress for this injustice: regardless of regional law in Northern Ireland, a UK resident is justly entitled to the same NHS services as anyone else, no matter where she lives.

SPUC recently won a nasty victory in Northern Ireland: they claimed the guidelines on termination were "ambiguous" and needed to be redrafted.
The guidelines say, with regard to women who need an abortion but won't be allowed to have one in Northern Ireland because they're not actually going to die if they don't get one:

Health professionals should explore the woman’s concerns and expectations to establish what kind of support she is getting or may expect to receive from her partner, family, social services, work colleagues or school/college authorities. It is important to discuss any difficulties she foresees if she continues with the pregnancy as well as any concrete measures that can be taken to help her particular situation. A woman should be offered information about alternatives to termination such as continuing with the pregnancy, adoption, etc. She should also be offered information on organisations which can offer support and advice.

The gang leader ordered her men to kidnap Kaname to subdue Sosuke but Sosuke forced all information from the man who passed the message and intimidated the gang leader instead using her beloved younger brothers. He also listed out weakness of all her men and all of them surrendered and ran off. Kaname was impressed.

Ed and Al only revealed part of their truth to Olivia and they were sent to work. Along the way, they were surprised to learn that Miles was an Isbavl whom Olivia did not mind as long as he was willing to follow her lead. At their workplace, they met Falman who showed them around the place. Meanwhile, Olivia was informed of Kimbley who had been hospitalised nearby asking for their help and she did not like the idea of a criminal state alchemist being released by the central regardless his crimes. In a mechanical area, a homunculus - Sloth broke out of the ground and created chaos. Ed told the arrived Olivia that Sloth could not be killed and she decided to do something that would be worse than death.

Inuyasha Final Act #09:

While Kouga parted with Inuyasha and others, Inuyasha sensed Sesshoumaru with another demon. Other place, Sesshoumaru ran into his mother who offered to guide him a way to train his sword. A hell hound was summoned and it grabbed Rin and Kohaku into the underworld. Sesshoumaru pursued them and Rin's soul vanished in the process, leaving her dead. His sword technique was completed in his grieveness. When he returned with the dead Rin and a despondent Kohaku, Sesshoumaru's mother revived Rin with her underworld necklace. Jaken thanked her on Sesshoumaru's behalf. Sesshoumaru's mother knew of Kohaku's situation and she told him that he could not be saved by Sesshoumaru's sword. Meanwhile, Miroku and others were trying to decipher Kikyou's last words about protecting Kohaku's light.

Tonight I started posting my fics on A03, and I just have to say: SHINY!!!! I'm totally geeking all over the little icons. And the page layout is so sleek and readable! Love it! *pets lots* Tonight I got up all my Alles Was Zählt stories -- and if you guessed that "angst" would be my most popular tag, you would be right!

Only thing that's not so shiny is that although I got my account a week ago, I was waiting to see if they might sort out the umlaut (or lack thereof) problem before I posted. Didn't expect someone to dive in there first and enter things like "Deniz Ozturk" and "Alles Was Zahlt" *winces in pain* I went ahead and entered everything spelled correctly, and I'm hoping the tag wranglers will realise that Ozturk=Oeztuerk and connect them. (Not that it's a big fandom or zillions of people will be confused or anything. Correct spelling is just one of my pet peeves inherited from my grandfather, who always insisted he was "Ó Briain, not O'Brian, for feck's sake!")

Anyway! Tomorrow I'm moving on to Merlin, then Harry Potter -- tonight I entered everything manually, but I think I just might play around with the spiffy importing feature. I have fewer stories in those fandoms, but they're longer/in multiple posts.

Beta means we're supposed to try to break things, right? *g*
