Four things 1. Will be away from September 17 until the end of the month. I'm not sure whether I'll have internet access so if I'm not around, that's why. Just FYI! But before I do go: Change in plans, forget this!
2. Pheme is up to her old tricks, and her connections with Internet have given her access to some previously untapped resources. Got any photos of your characters that might cause them embarrassment? Some supposedly private emails that could cause them discomfort, if made public? Anything else you'd like to see published in Pheme's blog, for the lulz? Just let me know!
3. And speaking of my little gossip monster, Khush and I have some big plans for Pheme and Internet. We've developed an idea for a game-wide event, to kick off hopefully next month, which should provide plenty of fun RP opportunities for anybody who wants to be involved.
I'll put up a separate post explaining how things will work in more detail closer to the event, but here it is in short: The event will involve the Men in Black - manifestations of the urban legend/conspiracy theory of the same name. Like the MIBs in American Gods, they exist because mortals believe they must exist, as a shady and ill-defined "agency" of suited men investigating paranormal activity and harassing mortal conspiracy theorists who believe they're going to be harassed. The individual agents appear to be mortal, living and dying like any human. While they are aware of the other gods' existence they certainly don't see themselves as a part of the divine community.
Most gods have no interest in the MIBs, seeing them as nothing more than either hapless mortals or weak divinities caught up in the tides of conspiracy-fuelled belief. They may even be regarded as a bit of a joke. Some few believe that this is exactly what whoever's pulling the strings wants everyone to think, and that the seemingly mortal MIB agents are simply the tools of a much more significant and potentially dangerous divinity.
Pheme's in the former camp, and she sees them as something to be exploited. She and Internet are going to attempt to hijack the MIBs for their own purposes (think Loki/"Mr. World" in American Gods) and send them after a new target - their fellow gods.
From there, people can take things wherever they want. Some men in dark suits knocking on characters' doors - or approaching friends, employers, employees - asking questions. Revealing knowledge of past aliases, indiscretions, financial misdealings, crimes going back five, ten, a hundred years. The impact on an individual character could be as minor as a bit of confusion and annoyance, or as major as an arrest warrant. Khush and I have developed a pretty clear idea of the progression of the event and its ultimate endpoint, but we're happy to be flexible and how your characters are affected, the ramifications and the fallout - all that is up to you!
4. Also coming up next month is Halloween. Would anybody be interested in celebrating it with some in-game shenanigans? I'm thinking monsters!
