The year is 2000. The world survived the much-anticipated Y2K and it should be business as usual as the Wizarding World still slowly recovers from the aftermath of the Second War. However, with so much focus being placed on justice against captured war criminals and so much energy focused on reconstruction, something has terribly wrong. It is now that He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named is truly gone that the Wizarding World encounters a new problem. A problem more mysterious to them than the Dark Lord ever was. A problem that has remained uncharted territory for the majority of magical folk: Muggles. With the defeat of the Dark Lord and not even a whisper of a new uprising, the Ministry neglected to keep a tight and secure lock on all of the Wizarding World’s defenses. Thus the charms and precautions keeping muggles away from the Wizarding World were weak enough that a small group of muggles breeched the barriers. Immediately after this news broke in both communities the majority of the muggle community becomes a-frenzy with the new discovery. Some wish to exploit it for profit, some fear it because they do not understand it—and, perhaps the most dangerous, some view the Wizarding community as abnormal and subhuman and seem to be taking their apprehensions to the extreme. They claim to hope to find a cure (or if need be—a means of extermination) to rid the world of what they view as some sort of mutation. It is the belief of the Ministry of Magic that keeping the barriers open between the magical and muggle worlds would pose as a danger to innocent civilians on both sides. And thus—on December 31st, 2000—the barriers will be sealed forever. Now, those who were previously living a double life in both worlds (muggleborns, halfbloods, etc) must make a permanent move into the Wizarding community or have their wands taken and live on as a muggle. In the meantime—to keep tabs on the population for safety—Minister Shacklebolt has distributed enchanted journals to keep everyone in contact with each other on a secure network without raising muggle suspicion. But could it be too late? Will too much damage already be done by December 31st ? Your part of this journey begins when you open up your journal and begin writing it. Remember—dark and difficult times lie ahead (what else is new?). Think you knew Harry Potter? Don’t bet your last galleon on it. This game takes place post-Deathly Hallows but completely ignores the epilogue. Thus no pairings are set in stone.
