Dominic kept his eyes on the road as Elijah switched radio from station to station, a set frown on his face. They’ve been on the road for hours and thanks to Dominic refusing to let him play his Indy CD’s while he was driving, Elijah was forced to put up with commercial radio. He winced at the song that was on at the moment. The artist name, some Diva from Barbados…Suckhanna? At least that’s what Elijah had taken up calling her when her song came on again for the billionth time.
“Come on man, this fucking sucks. Just one…no two of my CD’s…they’re right in the back…”
“Not a chance, love,” Dominic shook his head, his own lips set in a determined line. It wasn’t that he didn’t like Elijah’s music. He did. It was one of the things that had brought them together…but Elijah was in a GB mood and he simply wasn’t…and since he was the one who was driving today…what he said was law. Now when Elijah drove, he could play GB all he wanted. “No Hutz today.”
Elijah sighed and sat back in his seat, his bottom lip puffed out in a pout, causing Dominic to laugh. “Pouting is not going to get you your way, love.”
“It does any other time,” Elijah sniffed, his arms now folded over his chest. He looked at Dom, his eyes even more round than before. “Pleasssse….”
Dominic sighed. He really wasn’t in the mood, but he didn’t want Elijah pouting the whole way to New Hampshire. With a resigned sigh, he turned off the radio. “How about this. Anything but GB? Take it or leave it.”
Elijah just grinned, leaning over to give Dom’s cheek a quick peck, before reaching into the back and dragging out his CD case. He knew that a good pout would do the trick. Dominic always melted. He smiled as he fished out the CD, sure that it was something that they’d both agree on. He put in the CD and sighed as Chester Bennington’s voice filled the car. “Will this be ok?”
Dominic laughed. “Fucking awesome,” he winked, taking his boyfriend’s hand in his own. He was surprised Elijah even had a Linkin Park CD. They weren‘t exactly Indy. “Sorry for being so grrr…I like GB…in small doses…”
“You’re missing out Dom. They’re fucking awesome and Hutz is so fucking cool. I can’t wait for you to meet him.”
“I’m sure he’s a great guy,” Dominic flatly replied. He didn’t really have an opinion on Gorgol Bordello and their lead singer. It was like he told Elijah. He liked them…but only in small doses. As for Hutz…well…he didn’t really like the guy’s influence on Elijah, but who was he to tell Elijah who he could and could not hang around. Elijah was an adult. He could make his own decisions.
Elijah just grinned and sat back and watched the scenery go by. This was such a lovely part of the country. Farmland and trees, just passing them by. Fluffy white clouds in the blue sky as they head to see more of New England. He had to smile at that. New England. Dominic should be feeling right at home here.
“What are you smiling about?” Dominic chuckled, glancing at Elijah curiously.
“How are you liking New England so far?”
“What I’ve seen so far, I’m loving it. In fact…I’ve been thinking…after we’re bored with our careers…have you ever thought about where you’d want to settle down?”
Elijah frowned. He had just assumed their permanent place of residence would someday be New Zealand. So many memories were there. Their first meeting…their first kiss…their first time…so many fucking firsts…why wouldn’t they settle down there? But obviously Dom’s mind was somewhere else, or else he wouldn’t have asked the question. “Well…I always assumed it’d be New Zealand…I mean we both had fallen in love with the place…but do you have somewhere else in mind?”
“How do you feel about New England? I mean…I know I haven’t seen all of it yet…Maine was just the tip of the iceberg…but…so far it’s lovely. Plus we’d still be on the same continent as your family….a lot closer than New Zealand…”
“You have a point there…but…that’s so far away Dom. We should really wait before making a definite decision…”
“I still think a move to New England may be best…for us…and our family.”
Elijah arched his brows as he stared at Dominic in disbelief. They had never talked about starting a family. Fuck, he hadn’t thought about it at all. He had just pictured the future with just Dom and himself. The thought of children had never crossed his mind…but obviously it had crossed Dom’s. To be honest…he didn’t even know what to think. He loved kids…he really did…but did he want some of his own? And what if he didn’t? Would Dominic stay with him? Or would he leave him for someone else, who wanted children. Was he, Elijah, in danger of becoming another Jennifer Aniston?
“What are you thinking, Lij?” Dom took his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. “You’ve grown rather quiet. Talk to me.”
Elijah sighed, letting his head fall back against the headrest. He didn’t know how to state his concerns without sounding ridiculous. Really Wood. Calm down. Dominic didn’t say he wanted kids now. He’s talking about the future. His future…and yours. Together. And that was another thing…did he want a future with Dominic? That was another thing that they had never talked about. Ok, so the answer was fuck, yes. But what was that future to entail? Kids? House? Career? “Are you really wanting to have kids Dom?”
“Someday,” Dominic shrugged. To be honest, ever since he began working with the babies on Lost, he had found that he was a very paternal person. He enjoyed spending time with those babies. Feeding them. Changing them. Comforting and playing with them. Working with them had opened up a desire to actually be a daddy someday. Of course, not this second. Plus, he had to get Elijah used to the idea. He had no idea what his lover felt for children. He was going to have to take that into account, because if he knew one thing and nothing else, that was that Elijah was the one. He was the man he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. No one else. There wasn’t even a question. Of course, that was something else he had to talk to Elijah with. But not now….not on their trip. Perhaps afterwards…when Elijah had seen what life with him would be like…maybe then he’ll approach going to England to exchange vows…
“Someday? You were really good with Aaron…erm…the babies that played Aaron. You seemed to be a natural. It would be only natural for you to want a baby of your own…”
“Well…right now isn’t a good time. Just got fired, you know?” Dom haplessly chuckled. “But…maybe someday. In the far future. Right now, I have other things to concentrate on….”
“I want them too Dom…if you do…” Elijah blinked at his own words. They had not been planned…they just came out…but strangely, Elijah meant each and every one of them. He wanted to raise children with Dom. He wanted to be with Dom forever. Their own little family..
“We’ll have them, Lijah…when we’re ready…”
Elijah smiled and rested his head against Dom’s shoulder, thinking about the distant future. Kids. Husband. House. It hadn’t been what he had thought that he wanted for his future, but right now, in this car, with Dominic, on the road driving through some of the most gorgeous countryside he’s ever seen…it was all that he wanted. This again brought up his doubts about his future in the business and sighed. There were so many decisions to be made. So many things to think about…and some of them were decisions that were up to only him. It was comforting to know that Dominic at least wanted to be with him for the long term. That they were at least considering having a family together.
“So, you know what all of this means? You’re stuck with me. Nudeness and all,” Dominic smirked, remembering when Elijah had first stayed over at his place and had made the surprising discovery…
Elijah sighed happily as he plopped down onto the couch, bowl of cereal in hand. It had been a crazy night of clubbing and of course, he was the one too horribly hung over to make it home. Thank god for Dom. His boyfriend, had readily offered his apartment for Elijah to stay in until he was better. Elijah sighed again as he tried to remember all the events of the night before, but the only thing he could remember was leaning against Dom’s warm body as he opened the door to the apartment.
Dom’s warm body. Now that was a pleasant memory. It’s been only two weeks since they’ve become a couple and Elijah had felt his attraction growing with the more time he spent with Dom. The memory of last night…it did things to him that he hadn’t thought possible. At that moment he wondered what it’d be like to be close to Dom…without the barrier of clothes…He shook the thoughts out of his head. It was too early for his thoughts to go that far. Besides, their relationship was still new. He was nowhere near ready to go that far just yet. To be honest…he didn’t know when he’ll be ready, even though he was extremely attracted to his new boyfriend. More than he had ever been attracted to anyone…
“Good morning, Lijah,” Dom’ s cheery voice broke the silence, as he strolled into the kitchen.
Elijah’s spoon clattered to the table as he looked up to greet his boyfriend, just to get a good eye full of a completely nude Dom. Elijah blinked a few times, his mouth watering and his mind blank from the shock, but the bulge in his jeans growing.
“Lijah?” Dom frowned when Elijah didn’t answer as he took down a box of his favorite biscuits from the cabinet.
Elijah swallowed and took a deep breath, trying to find his words again. Say something Elwood. It’s not nice to stare. He’s just another bloke. Not like you haven’t see it all before…I’ve never seen him like this before…”Um…good morning…”
“How’s your head, love?”
“um…” Elijah mentally cursed as his mind went blank again. What the fuck? What was wrong with him and did Dom always walk around like this in the morning, because if so…he didn’t know if he’d be able to survive staying over anymore. He was already dying. His hands wanted to explore the tanned skin and his cock…well he didn’t even want to think about that…finally he found more words. He knew Dom probably thought him a incompetent child now, but he couldn’t help it. “Better. A lot better…”
Dom just smiled, aware of how flustered Elijah was and struggling not to laugh. He always slept in the nude, and walked around the house in the nude when there was no filming to be done. It was just something he did. If he had been thinking, he would have gotten dressed, but he was already in the kitchen when he realized that Elijah was still there, and since his boyfriend was to see him naked sooner or later anyway…well he felt no need to be shy. He had to admit, it was flattering that he affected Elijah like this. Not to mention his boyfriend was so adorable when he blushed like that…
“I have some aspirin if you want some.”
“That’s ok,” Elijah forced himself to look away. He glued his eyes to the table, concerned that he was on the brink of being rude by all of his staring. He was surprised that Dom hadn’t told him to take a picture, that it lasted longer. He blushed again, thinking of taking a picture of a naked Dom…
Giggling, Dom came up and ruffled Elijah’s hair. It was time to put the boy at ease. “It’s ok, love. You can look as long as you want.”
Elijah’s blush deepened as he slowly looked away from the bowl and up at Dom’s face, forcing it to stay there. If his gaze strayed to other places, he knew he’d have no power to talk. “Do you always go nude like this?”
“Yeah. Why not? No one here but me…well today it’s you…but I’m so used to having the place to myself, I forgot to slip on some clothes…it’s rather freeing. You should try it sometime. I didn’t mean to fluster you, love…”
“Oh it’s ok. Just…well I’m just getting used to having a boyfriend, so it’s a bit disconcerting to see him naked, but I’m fine….” Elijah smiled tightly, fighting the urge to look away from Dom’s face. His voice cracked as he began talking again. “Really.”
Dominic just laughed. Elijah’s cuteness was just too much and it was making him melt. “Love, you are too cute sometimes…” Dom knelt down and kissed Elijah, his eyes twinkling. Sudden warmth filled him with soft pale hands were placed on his shoulders and soft lips moved with his for a few minutes, making him forget about any further plans for the day…
“What are you thinking about and are we there yet?” Elijah asked, disrupting Dominic’s daydream. Linkin Park was over and now Elijah was digging out another CD. This one Hinder.
“I was just thinking about that time you were too drunk to go home and the next morning…when you first saw me naked.”
Elijah giggled, the memory coming to him. “You would be remembering that. I was such a fucking baby back then.”
“You were just young, love. Nothing wrong with that.”
“What did you think of me back then, Dom? I was trying to be so sophisticated and mature back then. I was so fucking eager to impress you.”
“Love, there was no need to impress me. I was impressed by you the moment we met. And you were mature, for your age back then. So fucking professional. I was nowhere near that professional at that age.”
“You haven’t grown up in Hollywood either,” Elijah snorted. “You sort of have to grow up quick in this biz and that means becoming as professional as possible. If you’re not, some dickheads will walk all over you.”
“I was head over heels for you, Lij. That morning…your adorable blushing and stammering…that kind of cemented it.”
Elijah laughed, his disbelief clear in his voice. “You’re telling me that it was all my blushing and stammering that got to you?”
“What can I say? I find innocence hot…”
Elijah just rolled his eyes and sighed as he sat back against his seat and stared out at the passing scenery. “I wasn’t that innocent. Are we there yet?”
“No, Lij. We’re not there yet,” Dominic chuckled and then groaned at the music that began to play through the stereo. “I kind of hate this group. Did you see the video to that? The bloke is even gayer than we are!”
“Come on…”
“Have you seen it?”
“Alright alright…they suck since they went all commercial anyway…Dom…what do you think of me now? Do you regret being with me at all?”
“What the fuck Lij?” Dom frowned, not knowing where this conversation was going. Was Elijah having doubts about them again? Did all that talk about starting a family scare him. “Of course not. I love being with you. Fuck, I love you. Plain and simple. There’s no one else I’d rather be with…”
“So my…naiveté doesn’t irritate you?”
Again, what the fuck? Where was this coming from? “Of course not. It’s one of the most charming things about you. Besides, you’re not that naïve anymore. I think I’ve done a thorough job of corrupting you…”
“Much to Sean’s dismay,” Elijah giggled, letting his head rest against Dom’s shoulder. He sighed, feeling…settled. He rubbed Dom’s arm lightly, his voice sounding far away as he began to drift off to sleep. “I love you Dommie. I’m happy to be with you.”
“I’m happy to be with you too,” Dom smiled, kissing his lover’s head. He smiled as he watched Elijah’s eyes close, going into a peaceful sleep. “That’s right love. Sleep. We’ll be there soon enough.”
Elijah’s soft snores were the only answers Dominic received.
~*~
Dominic pulled into the driveway in front of the cabin and smiled up at what will be his and Elijah’s home for the next week or two. The cabin was gorgeous. It had two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room with a fireplace, which they probably won’t use since it’s Summer, a hot tub, and a deck, where they could just sit outside and take in the lake and watch the sun make a descent into the sky. It was work to find the perfect cabin, but finally he had found one that had just fit him and the sleeping young man in the passenger seat.
Dominic couldn’t help but smile. He had been afraid that Elijah would be wide awake the whole trip from Maine, asking if they were there yet. It was cute at first, but he knew that it’d get old if it kept on, which was why he had felt a wave of relief when Elijah fell asleep after telling him that he loved him. Another soft smile as he remembered those words. Elijah loved him. Of course he knew…but it was so wonderful to hear. Each time was like the first.
“Baby…wake up. We’re here,” Dominic gently shook Elijah’s shoulder as he turned off the ignition. He couldn’t wait to get inside and collapse. He loved driving, but right now all he wanted was a nice cup of tea and a warm bed.
Elijah groaned as he opened his eyes and stretched his cramped muscles. “Fuck, where did I fall asleep this time, Dommie? Better get up. Feet soon…”
“Lij, we’re not in New Zealand anymore,” Dominic snorted in amusement. Poor thing must have really been in deep if he woke up thinking that they were in New Zealand and had to get to feet. Billy would have his fun taking the piss. Lucky for his lover, Dominic just wasn’t in the mood at the moment.
“Hmmm?” Elijah blinked, finally opening his eyes to take in the surroundings with a confused frown. “What the fuck Dom…where are we?”
“How soon we forget. We’re in the Highlander, on our tour of your great country. We’re in New Hampshire at the cabin we’ll be staying in for a week…”
“Oh…” Elijah blinked, everything finally coming back to him in a rush. His eyes widened in excitement as it finally hit him. “Oh! Fucking awesome man! Come on, we should explore,” Elijah was already out the door and heading for the cabin. With an amused chuckle, Dominic followed him out of the car and up to the porch. Fuck, it felt good to be out of that car.
“Explore the lake? Now? Shouldn’t we settle in first?”
Elijah stared at Dominic and giggled. “Not the lake, Dommie. The cabin. I want to see it all.”
“Calm down, love. We have plenty of time. I rented this place for a week. Let’s just go in and just relax for a bit. Been in that car for entirely too long…”
“You’re the one who wanted to drive instead of fly,” Elijah pointed out with an amused giggled.
“I wanted to see the country. Can’t really see it from the air,” Dominic slid out of the car and locked it, going to the back to help Elijah get out the bags.
“I just can’t wait to see everything in the day. The lake…the atmosphere…I hate it that we arrive after sunset.”
“We’re too tired to see much anyway…at least I am. Come on. Let’s get settled in. Tomorrow we can explore,” Dominic picked up their belongings and led the way to the waiting cabin, which was dark and stuffy when Dominic unlocked the door and swung it open. “Home sweet home…”
Elijah looked around with wide, curious eyes. He had to admit, Dominic did a good job. The entrance hall alone was wide and spacious and the smell of pine gave the place a nice woodsy feeling. “Nice…”
“Not fucking awesome?” Dominic giggled, with an arched brow, hoping that this place would please Elijah, just as much as it had pleased him from the pictures he had seen on the net. So far, the cabin was just like the pictures that were shown.
“Doesn’t earn fucking awesome until I’ve seen more,” Elijah winked, kissing Dom’s cheek before moving deeper into the cabin. He put down the bags and flopped down onto the waiting sofa. “Hmmm, it’s getting there.”
Dominic just rolled his eyes and joined his lover, plopping down on the space beside him. He wrapped a loose arm around Elijah’s shoulder and yawned. “It better be fucking awesome by tomorrow.”
“Is there any food here? Been too busy sleeping to eat anything.”
Dominic shrugged, not moving an inch. He was too fucking tired, or else he would have gotten up to check the kitchen. “There should be. Perhaps some soup or something. Do you want me to go check?”
“No. You should stay here and rest…or go to bed. I’ll go check,” Elijah frowned, noticed how pale Dom was and the bags under his eyes. “Fuck. You look awful. Go. Off to bed with you. I’ll find something to eat.”
“Are you sure?” Dom frowned, not wanting to leave his lover to fend for himself.
“Fucking positive,” Elijah pointed towards the bedroom, his voice not leaving room for argument. He knew that if he didn’t put his foot down, Dom would keep going until he collapsed, all for the sake of making sure that Elijah was comfortable. But Elijah was going to have none of it. This trip was mostly for Dom and he was going to make sure that his boyfriend enjoyed it and didn’t keel over from exhaustion. “Now go. Off to bed with you.”
“Can I at least shower first?” Dominic chuckled, shuffling off towards the bedroom.
“If you must,” Elijah smirked, watching his boyfriend disappear into the dark bedroom. Sighing, he walked into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator and pantry, signing in relief we he saw that they were stocked with food. Dominic did a fucking good job indeed. He was starving, but he didn’t want anything too heavy. Maybe a ham sandwich and some soup would be enough for tonight, then he’ll shower himself, lose himself in a book and then turn in for the night.
After scoffing down his soup and sandwich and a quick shower, Elijah slipped into the bedroom and sat at the edge of the bed, his eyes glued to the sleeping Dominic.
At times it was hard to believe that they were still together, after all these years.
They have gone through everything together. PR demands, Franka, Pam, Dom’s stay in Hawaii…and they were still here and even more in love than ever before. Sometimes it was overwhelming, but times like now, when he could just sit and watch Dominic sleep, looking as calm and peaceful as he had ever looked. Elijah smiled and ran a loving hand through Dominic’s hair. He knew that after Dom’s firing from Lost, things could have gone so much differently. The darkness that had taken him over after the trilogy could have returned, but Elijah would be damned if he let that happen and he was beyond thankful that Dom had decided to put a positive spin on his departure from Lost. Besides…it wasn’t like Dominic had been happy for the past two years. He had been fucking miserable. He still remembered Dominic complaining that time on his hand could have been time spent with Elijah.
Now they had all the time in the world. They both needed this trip. They both needed to reconnect and explore each other. Elijah wasn’t certain about much in his life, but he was for certain that this trip would be the beginning of the rest of their lives.
