“You’ve been acting rather peculiar, Tula.” Bloth placed his hands on his hips and eyed the commander suspiciously.
“Peculiar, how?” Tula asked, as she placed her dagger carefully on a table in front of her. Bloth had made a habit of taking it away from her at night, obviously fearful of being stabbed in his sleep.
“Just strange,” Bloth shrugged, “you haven’t been particularly talkative, for one thing.”
“It’s just today.” Tula mumbled, scratching her ear nervously.
“What’s today?”
Tula crossed her arms and sighed. “It’s my birthday today.”
Bloth started at her for a moment before laughing heartily. “Is that what all this fuss was about?”
“Yes.” Tula responded irritably, she didn’t need him to make fun of her.
“How old are you?”
“I’m nineteen now, Bloth.”
“Nineteen? I thought you were older than that.”
“Sure you did,” Tula rolled her eyes; “I’d just like to go to sleep now, if I can.”
“If you’d like, but wouldn’t you prefer to celebrate?”
“I wouldn’t be allowed.” Tula narrowed her eyes at the pirate lord.
“That’s true,” he replied, laughing, “it’s better you just go to sleep.”
“Thanks, Bloth.” Tula said sarcastically, turning away and walking toward her room.
“I could always visit you later,” Bloth leered after her, “I’d allow that as a celebration.”
Tula just shuddered, refusing to look back at him.
Title: Bitter Past. Fandom: Pirates of Dark Water. Characters: Tula/Bloth, Mantus. Prompt: 022 - Enemies Word Count: 207. Rating: PG. Summary: Mantus bitterly confronts new commander, Tula. Disclaimer: Pirates of Dark Water belongs to Warner Brothers.
“So, wench, you’re the new commander.” Mantus folded his arms and glared his large blue eyes at Tula.
“So, Mantus, you’re out of a job.”
“It’s easy to laugh now, girl,” Mantus sneered, “you have no idea what it’s like being a commander on a ship like the Maelstrom.”
“I think I’ll do fine,” Tula smirked.
“You’ve never worked with someone like lord Bloth.”
“I think I can handle him just fine,” Tula raised an eyebrow, “why do you care?”
“I don’t,” Mantus shrugged, “but I find it amusing how foolish you are. Lord Bloth will soon get rid of that foolishness.”
“Maybe you were just weak.”
“You little...” Mantus hissed, but his voice trailed off as he felt a familiar heavy hand on his shoulder.
“Mantus, my old friend,” Bloth laughed, “how have you been?”
“Fine, Bloth.”
“No need to be bitter, Mantus, you should be grateful that I only dismissed you from my ship and didn’t feed you to the Constrictus.”
Tula decided it was better to walk away now – the tension between Bloth and Mantus was intense. She just heard a rather-venemous sounding, “I am grateful, Bloth,” as she headed away, wondering if Mantus might still end up in the belly of the Constrictus.
