I don’t believe in ghosts, but I’m afraid of ‘em.
Who: Stone and OPEN!!!
What: Out of morbid curiosity, Stone goes to survey the Commoners District after the attack.
Where: Various areas around the Commoners District.
When: 1 PM to 6 PM.
Rating: PG-13, because asking if Stone will use foul language is like asking if the sky is blue today.
Status: Incomplete.
[1:17 PM, a tiny outdoor marketplace that isn’t affiliated with the bazaar.]
Stone surveyed what was left of the small market area off the bazaar that she had stolen from on the night of the undead’s assault. It’s not like it was socially condoned to have such an area in the first place, and the young thief of course didn’t feel bad about not having paid for her food, but the fact was that she would never be taking from here again.
Smashed fruit lay on the ground, bug-ridden cheese melting in the sun, stale cakes mashed into the cobbles. What she had heard was that most of the vendors made it out okay, somehow, but the information did nothing to lessen the knot in Stone’s stomach.
[2:48 PM, outside a small row of clothiers.]
There was nothing the pickpocket needed to buy—or take, as it were—but in some manner, window-shopping seemed to be calming her nerves. There was a black frilly gown in a display window inside a dress shop. Stone disliked dresses, of course. Too airy around her legs. The fabric looked soft, though, and it reminded her of a garment worn by one of the girls at the Founders Festival.
That was back before there were brutal bloody murders or sea creature assaults or undead ravagers; a time when Stone was trying to simply eke out a life for herself and her little brother.
Before stepping away from the shop, Stone wondered if her mother wore anything like the dress back in her day.
[3:24 PM, a pub and eatery.]
For once, Thief Stone decided to pay for a meal, and sat down at a bench of a dive that she had seen many others of varying ages traipse into. Upon entering, the girl surveyed its interior, and to her it appeared to be a family restaurant that just happened to sell booze, more than anything else. After checking their menu, the pale girl found herself asking for a beef sandwich and ice water. Before the waitress could leave, however, Stone requested that she be able to pay in advance. For a moment, after learning her meal’s cost, she pondered if 10 gil was really the right price for a meal so simple, but for once she didn’t argue about it and handed over the money, with an extra gil for her hardworking server.
Her food was ready in short order, and Stone thanked the waitress as she began to eat it, trying to push out thoughts of rotted flesh and her usual worries.
[4:09 PM, the streets of the Commoners District.]
At this point, the young woman was aimlessly wandering about the streets, turning this way and that. Sighing, Stone wondered about all that’s happened thus far. Sea creatures at the docks. Several people killed. Night of the living dead. Was it all connected in some way?
Could she protect the people she loved and trusted and admired? Would she end up being useless? Maybe this whole ‘checking up on the District’ thing was a bad idea, as Stone found herself in a worse mood than earlier.
[5:58 PM, on the way back to the Tenement District.]
She had eaten, she had seen the wreckage, she had viewed the state of the people in the aftermath, and she had even gotten a few choice rumors out of the whole ordeal. It was past time that she headed home to begin dinner for Audren… and maybe Glora, too, if things were still going to be alright for them for a while. A casserole, maybe? She had just eaten beef, and fowl or a vegetarian meal wouldn’t do, as the soups she had made just yesterday were in those categories. Pork, then, she decided, and started on her way.
