New Resident en route (locked to listed people)
(locked to: [info]kryptonite_al, [info]say_once_more, [info]father_lucifer, [info]light_of_day, [info]johnyangryjohny and other residents of Apartment 3/4)

Al escorted Delilah home with a German Catholic priest in tow. This hadn't been his idea, but unfortunately, it would seem his sister-in-law knew little or nothing of the religious stance on relationships like his brother's with Alfons back in Germany, and seemed quite oblivious that she was inviting home a potential powder keg. But she'd spoken up before he could say anything, and he couldn't quite take back her offer to bring him here so he might secure lodging, not without sounding like a royal asshole in the process.

That was something his brother was better at anyway, so he'd let Ed handle this if it became a problem.

They walked around to the office entrance, where he expected to see his brother and Riza. Well, he did see his brother and Riza...just... not the brother he was expecting.

"New potential resident," he announced as he stepped in ahead of Delilah and the priest. He hoped Riza could interpret the 'well aw shit' look he briefly shot her at that.

That look did not escape Riza's attention, and she arched her eyebrow, not quite seeing the full picture past him and Delilah. Then she saw the collar, which was recognizable enough, and like Al, she had heard enough from Ed and Alfons about this religion.

Oh, my.

"Hello," she said, remaining seated at the desk, casting a quick glance over at William, who had his hyperactive toddler son in tow.

William stops and lifts Joseph up onto his shoulders, looking at the new potential resident. A priest. Oh, this would be interesting. "Hello," he greeted.

Paul stopped in his tracks briefly upon seeing William, then closed his eyes, mumbling something in German and crossing himself. "Hello. I do hope I am not intruding upon anything?"

Delilah stepped in and walked over to William, smiling as she slipped her arm around his waist. "This is my family," she said, looking back to the priest. "My husband, William, and my sister-in-law, Riza. She's the co-owner, with William and Al's brother, Edward."

"You're not interrupting anything, no," Riza said, standing as she held out her hand. "I am Riza Elric. And you are?"

"Paul von Lichten," Paul answered as he shook Riza's hand. "I apologize for any trouble I may be causing, but I would like to ask for lodgings. I am afraid I do not know the way back to Germany."

William, meanwhile, noticed Paul crossing himself upon seeing him, and is immediately suspicious. There was something odd about the way the man smelled, too. He forces a smile, though, as he takes his son off his shoulders. "Here, to your mother for awhile, you miscreant," he says, handing the child over to Delilah. "He's run me ragged, your turn for awhile, dear one."

"You're from Germany?" Riza dropped her hand. She had yet to smile, studying the man. "Well, we do have several open apartments. But I'm not certain this would be a place where you would feel entirely comfortable, given that you are..." She frowned, glancing down briefly. "What is that term...? Oh! A man of the cloth, is that correct?"

"Like you don't have an excess amount of energy to spare as is," Delilah said as she wrapped her arms around the laughing toddler. "I'll take him in."

At Riza's words, she stopped and hesitated, frowning a bit in confusion, and gave William a worried look. Did she do the wrong thing, bringing him here?

William shakes his head subtly. No, you didn't do wrong, love. William turns to Paul, staying silent and letting Riza handle it for now.

Paul looked puzzled. "Yes, man of the cloth is the correct term," he said. "I do not understand why I would not be comfortable here, unless you are saying the case is more that I am not welcome."

"Whether or not you are would be entirely up to you," Riza said as she took her seat again, gesturing to a chair on the other side of the desk for the priest.

"I'm not from your world, but there are people here who are, including a member of my family. In fact, he was raised in a religious tradition which had their priests dressed in a manner like yours. I'm assuming you're Catholic?" She nodded slightly at the indication she was correct, and continued. "I'm well aware of your faith's belief on matters of sexuality, and not a single person in this apartment complex shares that opinion. As long as you refrain from making anyone feel like they should be ashamed of something as natural as simple love, there won't be a problem."

Paul was silent for a long moment as he sat down, listening to her. He clutched his Bible tightly for a moment, considering his answer. "I am well aware of what the Bible has to say regarding sexuality," he finally said, tone careful and hesitant, as if he were struggling with his wording. His accent grew marginally more pronounced. "It has quite a bit to say regarding all manners of sexuality, as a matter of fact. However, are you aware of what else it has to say? 'Judge not, lest ye be judged'."

He took a deep breath. "I know that many like me and even our parishioners are terrible at remembering that important lesson of our Lord, but I assure you, it is one I take to heart. I do not force my lessons upon anyone. There is a reason I was a traveler, rather than settling down with my own parish. I choose to comfort where it is needed, not judge and preach of fire and brimstone. I am not that sort of man. It is not in my nature."

He sat back. "So as long as your family is happy, I have no complaints."

"Sheska needed his help modifying some bookcases. She's very avid about her reading material, but her girlfriend has the law laid down, she can have as many as she wants as long as she can make them all reasonably fit into what was the second bedroom. She bought some wood, but needed an alchemist to do the modifications. Since Al was out with Delilah, Edward went to help her after he tagged Brian for bodyguard duty," Riza explained, walking out.

"Sheska's girlfriend, Winry, runs the hospital clinic that's currently located on the second floor of that building." Riza gestured to the one behind them, then pointed off to an area that was just a grassy open space. "That's going to be the site of the actual clinic, once we're able to get it built. If you become ill or injured, you know where to go. Unless you need surgery, you're more likely to get Russell Tringham as the doctor. He's actually a nurse, but he's studying for dual doctorates, as a general practitioner and as a pharmacist."

"That sounds rather ambitious of him," he commented, committing names and relationships to memory. Names were easy. Relationships were boggling. "I rarely get sick, and I tend to avoid trouble, so I doubt I will need their services, but thank you all the same."

"Ambitious, but well within his capabilities. We're blessed with no shortage of extremely intelligent people around here. My former commanding officer was the youngest State Alchemist until Edward got his certification, in our homeworld, and it's a given that Al could have gotten his as well. I don't have any doubt that if he'd been motivated to try for it, Russell could have passed and obtained the silver watch too. Besides, we need people here with those skills, and he got into medicine through the pharmaceutical angle originally as a herbologist."

"I am, but not for that reason. It's just very fortunate that so many other people are able to be jacks of all trades, in a manner of speaking, because that helps all of us take care of our own all the better," she said. "But I'm not proud of them merely for being geniuses. I served under one of the most powerful State Alchemists in the military proper, and to even get that certification, you'd have to be a genius to begin with. So I've met many of them." She hesitated as they started up the stairs to the third floor.

"The nicest way I can think to put it is, knowledge is power, right? And power corrupts. I just lucked out that I wound up in the command I did."

"These are very good people who live here and operate this place, then. I am glad for that." Paul walked quietly for a moment. "You mentioned that there are polyamorous marriages here. I believe I understand what this term means, though I may be incorrect. Does this mean a man may have more than one spouse?"

"Yes. In all the instances here that I'm aware of, none of us set out seeking that sort of arrangement. In fact, right off the top of my head? I can't think of one that does not involve my husband or his alternates, which just proves what we've said all along. Edward is special. All of them are. If it were just entirely up to me in an ideal situation, I'd be happy in a monogamous relationship. In a way, I'm in one as it is. Edward is my only partner or spouse. The same applies to Edward's husband, Alfons. Neither of us are actually polyamorous by ourselves, but... it was something of a tangled mess that created this situation, and neither of us had the heart to make him lose yet another person, especially because we'd still not found his little brother at the time."
