[As in previous instances, the snap, crackle, pop begins just as the WWN is getting ready to go into its paid programming hour and off the air for the night.]
One of these days I'm going to come in right in the middle of the "Love Letters and Dedications" segment and you're all going to thank me. Mark my words.
So, its been awhile since I popped in, I've actually gotten loads of mail - though I did have to change my WPO box halfway through so if you must continue to send me your thoughts do so at WPO Box 817, and we'll go from there. Did everyone have a Happy Halloween? Such a strange custom isn't it? I think a few of us had stranger ones than normal. I'd love to hear all about those.
So first and foremost, "Smitten in Surrey" all I can say my friend is...You're screwed. Would you like to know why? Well let me tell you Smitten, I hope you don't mind if I call you Smitten. You wrote to a stranger on the radio who was not asking to give you advice. But you did, in fact, ask for advice. Let me explain something to you, Smitten, your next door neighbor? She's literally 10 steps across your hallway and you're telling me that you can't go over there and ask her round for a glass of wine? Or tea? Or dinner? Or lunch? Or a stroll in the park? You're seriously lacking in bravery my friend. How do I know? Because I'm a bloody anonymous voice hollering through the radio at all hours of the night. so instead of wondering if she likes you - why not ask her yourself? Do something that very few people are even capable of doing. Ever. I dare you.
Secondly, I've got a note here from [papers rustling] Right. I've got a note from a third year student at Hogwarts who would like to know why I've decided to take to the WWN if I've got nothing to say. Good question, Third year. Good question indeed. I'm very bored. And I'm very lonely. It's all very dramatic isn't it?
And lastly, but certainly not least I've got a note here from "A concerned citizen" who would like to know if I'm calling for revolution. Citizen, no. I haven't got the time, energy, or inclination to start a revolution.
So the mail is taken care of. Remember if you want to hear me snark at you live and at a time of my choosing because this is all harder than it looks, Wizard Post Box 817. Don't try to find out who I am I've used an alias. Obviously For the 32 others that I didn't address, perhaps we'll be pen pals if I ever manage to learn to read your writing. honestly, the third year was better equipped to write a letter than all of you combined, except for the crazy bloke who threatened to expose my hypnotism to the world. There, I've done it for you.
[The sound of a cigarette lighting and an exhale]
What I love about this time of year isn't so much the crisp air, or the ridiculous leaves changing colors, nothing like that. The brightest stars come back into view. And I don't mean that in a star gazing kind of way. I just like the idea that there's something brighter out there than the sun.
Towards the end of this month the constellation Canis Major will be back in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere and it will be with us until spring. Granted I'm sure Canis Major knows it has the brightest star in the sky. These types always so. I'm sure you all remember it quite well. Canis Major and Leo share a sky for a bit in the spring, I always wonder if they fare well or not. And I'm sure, even as it is fading, it reminds Leo that eventually it will be winter again. The damned Nemean Lion upset by the star of Isis. Pity.
It seems somehow wrong not to mention everything that has been happening in this world of ours, the tragedy, the murder, the mayhem. Everything that has become a mess in the years since I last walked around these streets. And yet, here we are. Right where we were then. I fear this world has been lulled into a false sense of security, what with the Harry Potters and the victory parades. My friends, it seems old grudges are coming back, old fights that have already been won and lost by all are being fought again and again.
I said it previously, history is always going to repeat itself, because people have a very bad habit of becoming cocky once a threat is supposedly gone. But there's always bigger. And there's always worse. And that should terrify all of us. So maybe like the Nemean Lion my days are numbered once again and I'll be strewn across the heavens, and I hope when I get there, that Canis Major has something kind to say.
I'll let you all tuck in for the night. Paid programming starts next and it looks like we've got potion ingredients at half price for this week only, and some bloke wishing to sell radios on the radio.
Goodnight everyone. Goodnight Third Year at Hogwarts. Goodnight Smitten, be brave. Goodnight concerned citizen, if I do decide on revolution you will be the first on my list to recruit. Remember Wizard Post Box Eight-One-Seven.
