While I'll admit that it was nice to read something truthful in the Prophet for a change, I think the intent is quite obviously to spread fear and hopelessness. That is no way to honour Auror Robards' memory. Continued resistance and commitment to higher morals would be the more appropriate way to show respect to Robards, and I can guarantee many of us who knew and cared for him will continue to test the Death Eaters' patience and resist their "Dark Lord," whatever Lestrange has to say about it.
I think there's another message that can be taken from today's Prophet, though. If you're somehow still on the fence about whether or not what you love about our magical society and culture can be preserved under a Death Eater regime, like freedom of speech, expression, and free and fair elections, Auror Robards' death should give you a resounding "no." Maybe you think that once the dust settles and you're Pureblood or Halfblood that things can eventually go back to normal for you. Murdering your political opponents in the seat of government itself is not normal, it's a textbook sign of a fascist, totalitarian regime. So maybe it is a choice of life or death--will we continue to fight for the life of our free society and democratic traditions, or will we stand by complacently as they die alongside the Death Eater's victims?
