Welcome to Eternity

Severus Snape fixed his black eyes onto Harry's green, trying, even in his dying moment to silently communicate how vital it was for Harry to view the contents of Snape's memory as soon as possible.

Unsure whether the boy understood, Severus gave in to the warm darkness calling him. Something in the depths of his soul passed into the welcoming dark and he moved no more.

Severus lay still with his eyes closed. Vaguely aware of new surroundings, he drifted in and out of consciousness for what might have been hours or days or years. The rest was sweeter and more complete than any he remembered. The only disturbance was an odd wondering about a boy and whether this boy had succeeded. Each time Severus felt his mind creep closer to consciousness, thoughts of this mysterious boy began to form quickly followed by an overwhelming need for more sleep.

"You did it, you greasy bastard!" a hoarse whisper in his he ear jolted Severus awake. He opened his dark eyes, but did not move. He knew that voice.

"What did you say?" he asked in a quiet voice.

Severus felt a long, strong hand clasp his and the voice repeated, "You did it, you greasy bastard. Harry's won." He noted a triumphant, even admiring tone in the voice.

Severus closed his eyes against the rush of memories of his former life that flooded into his consciousness. He squeezed his fingers tightly against the hand holding his, an uncharacteristic tear slipping from one closed eye. He didn't trust himself to speak for a long moment.

Finally he whispered, "Tell me everything."

More silent tears slipped from Severus' closed eyes as the voice recounted every detail of Harry's battle and triumph against Voldemort. When the tale had been told, gentle fingers tenderly wiped the tears from Severus' pale skin, lingering just a short time longer than necessary, "Thank you, Severus."

The thin lips curled into a small smile. He never imagined, even in the after life, he would hear that voice say those words. Severus opened his eyes and sat up with great care, expecting a stab of pain in his neck, but none came.

"Thank me?" Severus asked, avoiding direct eye contact. His fingers moved to his neck, finding no trace of the gash Nagini's fangs made in the flesh, "What for?"

"Even in death you're a bastard, Snape," Sirius chuckled, sitting down on the bed beside his old nemesis.

Severus, a bit nonplussed by the lack of animosity behind Sirius' familiar jabs, avoided direct eye contact by looking around the room. It was as if the room had been designed specifically for him. There were no windows; the only light came from a fire crackling in a sparse fireplace on the wall opposite his bed. On either side of the fireplace were shelves that lined the wall, floor to ceiling. The shelves contained every ingredient any Potions master could imagine needing. Each was stored in the ideal container for preservation of its magical properties. Every phial, flask, and stoppered bottle was aligned in alphabetical order and hand labeled with both common and uncommon magical properties.

To his left, Severus saw the remaining necessities to make potions. A glass case housed various mortars and pestles. A tall wooden table provided the space needed for blending ingredients. Under the table, stowed in order of capacity, were cauldrons of every size and material imaginable. Turning to his right, Severus saw a simple wooden door on an otherwise bare grey, stone wall. Finally, Severus turned his black eyes to the man who sat in silence beside him. Severus was stunned to realize how handsome Sirius looked. The premature lines on his face vanished, leaving only the high cheekbones and aristocratic nose. Bright grey eyes, full of life, replaced the sunken haunted ones Severus had last seen.

"You like it?" Sirius asked, gesturing to the room in general. A slight hint of anxiety slipped through.

"Yes," answered Snape. "It's…" he paused, eyes wandering around the space again before deciding on the right word, "It’s perfect."

Sirius let out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding and his face broke into a dazzling smile. It was exactly the kind of smile that tended to make Severus feel nauseous when they'd been at Hogwarts together. Of course back then, the smile had never been directed toward him.

Trying to ignore the strange pleasure he felt at being the recipient of such a smile, Severus pressed on in his silky voice, "I asked you a question and you called me a bastard, Black. Are you going to answer me?"

Sirius arched an eyebrow, "I called you a bastard because you are one, Snape. Even death hasn't changed that." Sirius rose and walked over to the wall of potions ingredients. He busied himself straightening the already perfectly straight bottles as he continued, "I don't think I can begin to put into words every thing I have to thank you for."

"That wouldn't surprise me much, Black," Snape tried to sneer, but somehow found himself lacking the proper emotion behind the once familiar disdain. "You never were a master with words."

"Oh please," Sirius turned back to face Severus with a mischievous grin. "I have an award for being a Master Debater at Hogwarts."

"I beg to differ. I received the Master Debater award that year. I believe yours read 'Mastur Bater'."

Sirius smiled that dazzling smile again, "I'm surprised you recall such a detail about me Snape."

"It wasn't that hard," Snape retorted. "You paraded through the Hogwarts Express with the certificate and a jar of your…" he hesitated, searching for the right word, "proof."

Sirius let out a reflective sigh and plopped back on the bed next to Severus murmuring, "Good times."

"For you," Snape harrumphed. "I found it rather suspicious that the jar mysteriously broke just as you waved it in front of my nose."

Sirius looked Severus straight in the eyes, "I am truly sorry for all of that. You know it now, don't you?"

"How would I know anything about you, Black?" Snape tried to recall the old animosity, the loathing, the hate. All he could truly focus on were the fathomless grey eyes in front of him. It seemed the longer he spent in this place, wherever, whatever it was, the less he remembered those old feelings and the more he just knew.

"It's happening, isn't it?" Sirius asked.

"What?" Severus countered.

"It. I'm still better at masturbating than words," Sirius said with a shrug. "I don't know what else to call It but It."

Closing his eyes to shut out Sirius' gaze, Severus spoke through barely moving lips, "Could you at least try to use some words? They don't have to be big."

"This will require refreshment," Sirius said emphatically. He thought for a moment and two glasses along with a bottle of Ogden's Old Firewhisky appeared from nowhere. Sirius nodded his head and the bottle uncorked itself, poured a generous amount into each glass and then hovered by Sirius' head.

"Is that supposed to impress me, Black?" Snape asked.

"Not particularly," Sirius replied with a shrug. "It's not very complicated, really. Far easier than Transfiguration. You simply think of what you want and it appears. Death does have its advantages."

Sirius downed his glass in one swallow and held up his glass to be refilled. Severus took a small sip, savoring the burning amber liquid before swallowing.

Sirius took a swig from his second glassful and let out a sigh. "Where to start, where to start," he mused aloud.

"I find the beginning is usually appropriate," Severus suggested.

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and-"

"Not THAT beginning, Black!" Snape hissed.

"Oh," Sirius replied, his face feigning innocence. "I misunderstood which beginning you meant."

"Just get on with it, Black."

Sirius sighed again, looking earnestly into Severus' black eyes. "It really is difficult to put into words," he said apologetically.

Severus nodded understanding and sipped his whiskey.

Sirius took another drink as well, and began. "When I first fell through the veil I was in some sort of limbo for a time. I'd sleep better than I ever remember and then wake with a vague feeling that someone I cared about deeply was in trouble. As soon as I tried to focus on the details, sleep would overcome me again. I don't know how long that went on. It could have been days, weeks, or years even."

"Yes, that sounds very much like what happened to me before you arrived," Severus confirmed.

Sirius continued, "Eventually James came to me and told me Harry was safe for the moment."

Snape sneered automatically at the mention of James Potter; his feelings about that man had not changed in the least.

"When I heard James' voice, everything about my life flooded back all at once. I raged when I thought of Bella and how I'd let her get the best of me. I burned to go back and take care of Voldemort myself. Then I thought of you. It confused me. When I thought of Bella, Voldemort, the other Death Eaters, it was like I could feel their evil and it fueled my anger. When I thought of you though, I felt no evil and there was no longer any rage. It was quite unsettling."

"I can imagine," snarked Snape. "The infallible Sirius Black discovering he was wrong about me."

Sirius gave a wry grin. "Not completely. You were and are a sadistic, greasy bastard of a git. Just not evil in the true sense of the word."

"Fair enough," Snape agreed. "What happened to you after that?"

"I grew tired of focusing on the rage and anger and quit turning attention to Voldemort and his lot. I tried to focus on Harry and his friends, but never could. That left me with you," Sirius said the last word with an odd inflection that sent a tingle up Severus’ spine.

"Me?"

"You."

"And, what exactly happened when you began to focus your attention on me?" Snape asked. He thought he knew the answer and found himself both anticipating and dreading it.

Sirius stared directly into Severus' eyes for a long moment before leaning his head closer to Severus and speaking in a whisper. "This is the part I can't find words for."

Severus leaned closer as well, "Show me."

Sirius' eyes ranged over the face of the man in front of him, the pale skin; lank, black hair; long, hooked nose; the thin lips that were still slightly parted. He closed the slight distance between them, pressing their lips together. He pulled back after the initial contact and darted his tongue over Severus' lower lip before pressing their lips together again. He opened his mouth a little wider, trying to taste more of the man he'd been thinking of for years now before he broke the kiss.

"We must be in Hell," Snape murmured as the men pulled away from each other.

"What!" Sirius exclaimed. "I know I haven't had much practice what with Azkaban and being dead and all, but it can't have been that bad.

"You misunderstand," Snape smiled. "It was not bad at all. In fact, I enjoyed it very much. What I meant was, you and I together voluntarily would have to be a match made in Hell.

Severus closed the distance between them and kissed Sirius again, coaxing the full lips open with his gently probing tongue. Without breaking the kiss, Sirius lay back on the bed, pulling Severus on top of him. Their mouths were urgent, tongues probing and teeth grinding as if life (or in this case death) itself depended on this kiss. Hips ground together, cocks hardening underneath the fabric of their robes.

"Clothes," Sirius sat up and muttered, barely intelligible with Severus' tongue in his mouth. "Evil clothes, must remove."

Forgetting they could just think their clothes away, the next few minutes were a flurry of broken clasps and popped buttons as the men worked to exorcise the evil fabric that separated them. When the last scrap of clothing had been flung across the room, they collapsed back onto the bed, Sirius on top this time. He ground his hips downward as Severus thrust up, rubbing their slippery erections together.

"So good, so good," Sirius moaned into Severus' ear, before biting the pale white lobe. Severus grunted something that Sirius took as agreement and they continued to grind against each other until both cocks were straining and hot with friction.

Severus, whose tongue had hungrily tasted every part of Sirius' mouth, slowly pulled his lips away only to return and bite Sirius' lower lip then suck it. The sensation caused Sirius to grind his cock down onto Severus' with such force, he was sure his hipbones would be bruised. That last, painful thrust sent Severus over the edge and white, pearly come shot from his swollen cock all over his stomach.

Seeing Severus come undone was enough to send Sirius over the edge as well, he grasped his cock in his hand and after a few tugs watched his own come mingle with Severus'.

Fighting the urge to collapse into a puddle of post orgasmic bliss, Sirius kissed his way down Severus' pale body to the hot, wet come and began to lick it up. When he'd swallowed all he could find on Severus' stomach, he carefully began to lick the still twitching cock. Only when he was satisfied he had found every last drop of fluid did he slide his way back up Severus' thin body, resting his head in the crook of his lover's neck.

"Welcome to Eternity," he murmured as they slipped into sleep.

"Not THAT beginning, Black!" Snape hissed.

yay! that was fantastic and delicious! Thanks so much for sharing.

I love the idea that Sirius tried to focus on other things, but was always obsessed with Snape, even in the afterlife. ^_^

Mmmmm...

I loved the way the tale when from emotional to funny to sexy, back to funny, pass again by emotional and sexy and back...

Just as I'd feel a twinge of saddness, I'd laugh, and the laughter would melt away into a 'wow, that's hot!' thought!

Thanks for sharing.

I found this wonderful, vibrant, glowing, life-affirming story on delicious.com when I searched for "snape/black" tags.

It made me tear-up a bit, but that's what's so wonderful...I was smiling by the end! Thank you for that! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I'm going to lose my bookmarks in Firefox due to an old glitch in the software, thus I've decided to take advantage of the site.

I was stoked when I saw that even some of my writings had been bookmarked!
