Background: Bi was born in Korea, his parents' first child. His father was a spacecraft engineer, and the family soon relocated to America when he was offered a high position at one of the spacecraft research facilities in Nevada. For the next few years, the family enjoyed a stable life with a good income; until tragedy struck one day at the facility. There was an explosion and although his father escaped relatively unharmed, many of the other personnel didn't fare so well. Many were badly injured and several had been killed. As the head of the research team who's engine had malfunctioned and caused the explosion, Bi's father felt responsible for the accident. He handed in his resignation, but that job had been his dream and slowly but surely he fell into depression. He drank, he gambled, he sat blank-eyed in front of the TV while the bills slowly piled up, and when Bi's mother eventually gave her husband an ultimatium: snap out of it, or she'd leave.
It wasn't his fault that the ultimatium happened during a time when their city was struggling with high levels of unemployment, simply not enough jobs to go around. But the way she saw it, it was his fault that he wouldn't just swallow his pride and shame, and return to the research facility who would have accepted him back in an instant, since he had been one of their most valued engineers.
Six months later and nothing had changed, so Bi's mother packed their bags, and took the 6 year old Bi to New York where she had a brother who had emmigrated a few years before his sister and brother-in-law. He owned a garage and hey could stay with him for a while until they got their feet back under them. It was completely different from the quiet, clean neighbourhood they had left. This place was rough and rundown and dirty, where no-one in their right mind even opened their door once it was dark, and you always checked the backseat of your car before getting in.
Bi did everything he could do make things easier on his mother. He was a bit of a trouble maker, but it was always harmless things, things done simply for the fun of them out of any real desire to cause trouble. Early in life he discovered an ability to understand the way that things worked - when a remote control car he got for Christmas stopped working after overuse, he easily figured out what was wrong and how to replace the worn out parts. It wasn't just with remote control cars but also clocks, household appliances, pretty much anything. In highschool he also found he understood the way that mathematical formulae and physics worked, without intensive study.
He spent more and more time at his uncle's garage, tinkering around with cars and motorbikes, taking engines apart and putting them back together, making them better, faster, lighter, more efficient. When he turned 16, his uncle hired him to work on weekends, and as a hobby Bi started making remote controlled cars and airplanes.
When he graduated from highschool he took on a full time job at the garage, and on the side began to modify cars for street racing. He also built a motorbike from scratch, which became his pride and joy.
But as much as he loved cars and being a mechanic, after a few years he was filled with the need to do something more. Something bigger. Something more complex. Cars just weren't enough anymore. His interests turned to aerospace engineering, and Bi started putting in more hours at the garage to save up enough money to enroll himself at the New York Institute of Technology. He's now 27 and currently in his third year of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, and only working part-time at the garage.
Growing up in a rough neighbourhood he is sometimes a rough kinda guy, he has no problem throwing punches when they're needed, and he has a very short temper which lands him in fights more often than not, but he's gentle at heart and his friends and family mean the world to him. He enjoys martial arts, eating, especially anything that's sweet and sugary, and he loves his motorbike and his dog Harley.
And chickflicks, but he keeps that secret.
