Soo Hyuk was conceived, born and brought up in Wainwright, Alaska, a small town located in the northern part of the state. Three months before he was born, his father was involved in a climate-related traffic accident, leaving him in a coma. Soo Hyuk's mother, already unstable, developed the logic that the man was only sleeping and would wake up any minute. Needless to say, Soo Hyuk's childhood was interesting.
It didn't take long, only six or seven years, before Soo Hyuk had a full understanding of his mother's mental instability and his father's actual condition. At times, while growing up, it seemed like he was the one taking care of his mother, instead of the other way around. Then, when he was ten, after his mother closed herself in her room for a few days and left him to fend for himself, he discovered that if he stood naked in the middle of his bedroom and concentrated hard, he could spawn an exact copy of himself from his back.
After the first clone, he thought he was as crazy as his mother and that the clone wasn't real, considering the fact that the clone would merge back with him as soon as he wished it gone, but as he grew, so did his knowledge of his own ability. He knew they had to be real because other people saw them, too. By the age of thirteen, he could make up to five clones at once and was developing the ability to let them go off on their own without him needing to control them. Each clone was an exact copy of his form; physical, mental and emotional at the time of replication, and after their creation, they existed as a completely separate entity. Over time, he developed the ability to change some physical characteristics, such as clothes and hair, though not with astounding success.
At first, he used the clones for completely (or mostly) innocent reasons. He'd leave one with his mother when he had to go off to school or he'd create a few to help with chores. But more often than not, the pain that accompanied spawning a clone wasn't worth the benefits. At the age of sixteen, he discovered that he could create one and keep it around for days or even weeks at a time. He could sleep and it would stay. Sometimes the clone would sleep, too. He could converse with it easily, as though it was a completely different person. It wasn't long before he discovered he could use a similar technique to clone objects, as well (though not completely perfect sometimes), using the technique to earn a little extra money or simply to give himself more to eat.
After he turned eighteen, he took it upon himself to put his mother in an assisted living facility, and after it was decided that she no longer had the right to make the decision, Soo Hyuk had the hospital turn off his father's life support. As a result, he came into his father's inheritance. Unbeknownst to even his mother, Soo Hyuk's father was sitting comatose on a multi-million dollar fortune.
Finances and family set, Soo Hyuk left with the intention of getting as far from Alaska and his mother as possible. He took his money and his secret ability and settled down in a high-class apartment in New York City where he decided to return to school. He seemed to be taking it easy, studying business and economics, but it all made sense in his ultimate life plan.
His use of his clones could no longer be considered pure. While still doing his best to keep his evolutionary advantage behind closed doors, he used his clones for anything from simple (or complex, as the situation sometimes required) companionship, to attending classes when he didn't feel up to it, to morally wrong acts that were untrustworthy or violent in nature, as long as he always had an alibi to provide if he should get caught. And along with the discovery that he could clone objects with increasing perfection, thievery and dishonest moneymaking became second nature to him, despite the fact that he didn't need the money.
Now 21, Soo Hyuk has developed the ability to make and maintain many more clones at once, and is currently testing how long he can keep a single clone around before he needs to absorb it. And more recently, he's discovered that the longer a clone exists, the closer his bond with them becomes, and not only on an emotional level. After a certain period of time, it causes him physical strain to absorb the clone.
He is currently sharing his apartment with a single clone that was created four months ago. He actually fears trying to absorb it now.
