Background:
Park Hyoshin is 26 years old and has resided in New York for 3 years now after he immigrated to USA from Korea where he was born. He is a late child, the youngest of three children, all boys. When he was 3 years old, KwangHo, with a 19 year difference being the oldest brother, and his wife, SunJung, immigrated to the States where he had two children and kept minimal contact over the following years, estranged from his brothers and parents, even when he sent off his son to his parents back in Korea. Hyoshin is Yoochun's uncle.
After graduating high school, Hyoshin went to study Music Theory and Performance at the Seoul University despite the strong disapproval of his parents who were very pragmatic people. But his passion for the sound of music was stronger. Ever since he remembered himself, he’d hum along to the melodies played on the radio, try to perform for his family and break out in a song whenever he could. But it was at the age of nine that he discovered the ‘sound of music’ was not the only one ingrained in his being.
It was an early summer morning when Hyoshin was coming back from the local store with the groceries his parents had sent him to buy and he was lost in another melody when he was snapped out of his state by loud barking. A large black dog was blocking his way and didn’t plan to move instead with teeth bare and wild eyes focused on him, it darted straight in his direction. Dropping his bags, Hyoshin opened his mouth to scream but what left his lips and as strange as it felt, body, didn’t reach his ears, an invisible sound that was heard only by the dogs in the whole neighbourhood and resulted in a cacophony of sounds and the dog running away. It was the first incident that left him thinking.
The next which lead to the final realization happened three weeks later, when upset after a fight with his mother, Hyoshin locked himself in his room. In a state of anger and anxiety, Hyoshin tensed more and more until he felt his body turning his emotion in something else and waves undulated through the house, breaking windows and his mom’s crystal. He could clearly tell it was him who was the center of what happened while everyone else was left puzzled and lost. In time, reading a lot of books and exploring his ability, Hyoshin came to find out new areas it extended to.
Usually he doesn't like attention, but he had to put up with it in university when his deep and husky voice earned him popularity and turned him a frequent guest to university radio broadcasts with a following of his own, a small circle of admirers (aka fangirls 8D). Graduating with his Bachelor’s, he entered the local music industry with a bright future ahead and with new offers from music companies all the time on the table for him. But the pressure and disapproval from his parents continued.
A year later, after another fight with them, when Hyoshin had to go on stage, the bottled up anger spilled again, creating chaos and panic in the audience from the breaking lights, the following darkness and the strange waves that had pulsated through their bodies. And that hurt more than anything, he was there to please his audience after all. So even if the accident was ascribed to technical malfunctions, Hyoshin knew he couldn’t continue at the risk of this happening again and decided to run away from the source of more potential future eruptions, hoping it’d never repeat.
Hyoshin didn’t regret his missed chances, as he hoped to continue the same path over the ocean no matter how much time’d take him. It took him a year working in fast food restaurants and grocery shops, taking evening classes and staying until late in the nights watching TV and DVDs to master the language enough to be able to sing without an accent. Singing was one thing he didn’t touch with his powers, always pure and original instead.
Finally confident of his skills, Hyoshin started from a small bar in the outskirts of the city, not minding at all as long as he had a mic and an audience. His talent shone through and half a year later he got a job at a five-star hotel downtown where he now works three times a week (Wedneday, Friday and Saturday) with a full salon and a salary providing him more than well enough. It happens to be the same hotel Yesung currently works at.
His ability is to create and manipulate sound waves. The application of it varies from hypnotizing people to projecting powerful sonic blasts and more. Despite his family history, Hyoshin is not jaded, prefers to live for the moment and search for solutions instead of thinking there are none. To strangers he is reserved, preferring to observe and evaluate if they are worth the effort. It’s more of a self-defense reaction than elitism as he tries to avoid any people who’d give him negative emotions which could cause new accidents. But once he considers someone a friend, he’d break in a deep warm laughter more often than you’d expect. He doesn’t like dogs but is not afraid of them.
No, Yoochun doesn’t have a clue he is in NY and yes they’ve known each other back in Korea. Even if Hyoshin disliked his oldest brother, he didn’t see a reason to do the same with his son and while they resided at the same house, developed a connection, almost friendship if it wasn’t for Yoochun’s preference to keep on his own.
And in the end, a detail which answers a lot of questions including how Yoochun’s uncle is a mutant. Hyoshin was adopted at the age of two after his parents, close friends of Yoochun’s grandparents, passed away in a car accident. Which is why 15 years after their second son which they had planned on being their last, Yoochun’s grandparents decided to raise another child. It was also the reason for the fight with his mother when he was nine and accidentally found out the truth and why Hyoshin doesn’t feel so close to his parents and didn’t mind leaving them so easily.
Preferred RP Style: IJ, paragraph
Anything Else: Why is it so long?! T______T And why is everyone so bad to me? Yes, I’m looking at you, Meggy, Mel and Chun. Friggin’ manipulators, that’s what you are.
