Who: Logan Bloodworth, Roman Skye (mentions of Zoe Parish, Ehren Clemens, Dorian Sloan), Mayor Monday, General Glove, and NPC’s
What: The trial of the century; the verdict
When: August 20th - midday
Where: The Government Building
Rating: Mid - mentions of violence
Status: Complete

The courtroom was quiet save for the confident voice of the Defending Lawyer. Roman Skye presented evidence before the panel in hopes that the vote would come back unanimous for not guilty. Doubt was his friend in this circumstance and while there was evidence it was purely circumstantial at best and alluded to the fact that someone else was committing these crimes and was still at large.

Three character witnesses had come forward to relay testimony to the character of the defendant: Erron Logan Bloodworth. They heard testimony from Zoe Parish, Ehren Clemons, and Dorian Sloan.

The panel itself was made up of five people - men and women in the highest ranks of power on the island, including Mayor Monday and General Glove. The fifth person often was the tie breaker and Roman had seen many a situation come to rest on the shoulders of that fifth person. He needed at least three in his pocket to win and a Skye never lost a case.

“...and you’ll see that in this photograph here,” Roman continued, motioning to the blown up photograph of the crime scene taken from the security footage. “That this is a feline shifter. My client is a wolf shifter.”

One of the panel spoke up, “How do we know that is not a wolf for sure?”

Roman smiled, “What a wonderful question! Do you see this lithe shape? Wolves are hairier, they have long, stilt like legs and bushy tails. This creature has no fur that sticks out, no mane, no bushy tail.”

The panel sat back unsatisfied.

Roman turned to the defendant. “Mr. Bloodworth, would you please demonstrate your ability for the panel? There is a divider there that you can use to change.” He would motion to the divider and Logan was then unshackled. A glance over his shoulder and Logan found Ehren’s gaze, unsure but willing, and then he turned away to move behind the curtain. It took a few moments to slide out of the prison uniform. Logan then shifted and wandered out from behind the curtain shyly. The wolf slunk over toward the panel, spinning around to show off its features. Clearly the differences between it and the creature in the photo were distinct.

“Thank you, Mr. Bloodworth. You may return.” Roman breathed.

Logan went to change again, putting his clothes back on and returning to the side of the defense.

Roman then showed a doctored clip of the night in question, showing Logan in his apartment asleep at the exact time the crime was thought to have taken place. The puppy had been removed from the footage and would not be shown to the panel. “This is camera footage from the evening in question. You can see by the date and time stamp on the photograph that Mr. Bloodworth was in his apartment when the crime was taking place. If this doesn’t prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that my client is innocent of this crime, I’m not sure what else will.”

The verdict.

Blood pooled into the cracks on the sidewalk in front of the Marketplace.

As the sun rose on the sixth day of August a guard lay dead where many would rise to do their shopping for the day. Throat was torn out, mouth agape and features set into rigor in an expression of utter terror. A handwritten sign similar in style and penmanship to the one placed on the guard in the chair before the storm was tilted so that the single word across it could be read: Revolution. His weapon had been removed, taken.

Residents began to discover the grisly scene. Appalled, shocked, any who laid eyes upon the mess strewn before the Marketplace entryway were horrified. Who could have done something like this? Was it related to the first attack which had come before the storm? Who was brave enough to harm a guard? Bold enough?

The Government responded with a statement around midday, after the scene had been documented and cleaned. Though no amount of bleach or sterile chemicals could wash away the event stained and burned into the minds of those who had come upon the guard. A healing community demanded answers.

Mayor Monday released a statement vowing to apprehend the person responsible as soon as the evidence was available. But they already had a candidate in mind - not the usual suspects like Paul. Roman Skye had off-handedly suggested taking a closer look at a man the residents knew as the wolf. A man with a rumored reputation for domestic violence, one who had bitten a guard for no reason during the recent storms.

At 2:15 PM Logan Bloodworth was taken into custody, accused of the earlier assault on the guard left on the Facility steps and for the most recent murder of the guard left at the Marketplace. It didn’t matter just then what evidence they had against him, he was dragged away in handcuffs, beaten unconscious by a group of armored guards, from where he had been at work.

Questioning would be intense. Perhaps others were involved but Logan wasn’t giving them any solid leads. He couldn’t have acted alone. Monday was going to get to the bottom of this.

Revolution!

Apri/May 2018 - Game-Wide Plot Part Three

[info]destructionmods
In the days following the Government press release on what is now referred to as the Mutant Bombing, legislators push for internment of all mutants, regardless of age, race, gender, or ability. Officials maintain that this is the only way to keep the country safe from the credible threat of a violent mutant takeover. Many humans become afraid, convinced by the propaganda and scare tactics inundating the media. While several branches of the Mutant Rights Movement reman vocal and active, doing their best to dispell the myths of danger, more and more people now support taking mutants into custody and removing them from not only the public, but the mainland US. Plans for multiple sites similar to Destruction Island are proposed and widely supported. The government makes these plans and the public dissent clear to Destruction Island residents: their entire 'race' is going to be punished for the wrongdoing of one.

By late in the last week of April, two videos are anonymously leaked to Island residents as well as media outlets. The first video shows scores of mutants helping with the rescue and recovery effort. The second is of government agents setting the bomb. The videos go viral, making local through international news, the hot topic for morning lifestyle shows to major news outlets, to satirical late night shows.

In less than 48 hours, the sentiment in America changes drastically. No longer is the public supporting government regulations on Mutants, they were demanding the government to completely vacate Destruction Island and other similar projects. The Mutant Rights Movement and other pro-mutant supporters suggest that the island be turned over to the current residents and reformed into a utopia of sorts, along with the freedom to return to the mainland without persecution. They suggest that the Island, and others like it, become a place for mutants to call their own, to help other mutants without government interference, and to be exactly like any other state in the union. The government fails to respond immediately, taking the time to weigh options.

April 2018 Game-Wide Event Part Two

[info]destructionmods
By Sunday afternoon, five days after the explosion and resulting collapse, only a few people are left trapped inside the Facility and are expected to be rescued with 24 hours. As on the 22nd, there are two known fatalities, one human government worker and one mutant; all of the injured will survive with healing and/or treatment. To address the human fatality, the government releases a statement to the public media blaming a mutant for the explosion. More specifically, they place the blame on a so-called mutant terrorist group dubbed The Faction. To support their claim, the government released strategically cropped photos of the building collapse that show the rubble and the injured, but show no mutants assisting in the rescue effort. Almost immediately, public social media calls for stricter mutant regulations and registration. Some politicians even propose that mutants with dangerous powers should be locked away or 'neutralized' before they can hurt anyone else. Now more than ever, the government and more of the public consider mutants 'the enemy.' Mutant rights support group numbers dwindle overnight.

April 2018 Game-wide Event

[info]destructionmods
With negotiations with the "terrorists called The Faction" hitting an impasse and everyday people starting to talk about mutant rights, it was decided that it was time to force public opinion to sway back to the patriotic side. Only a handful of people knew of the plan, and none of them mutants. The General overseeing the Destruction Island Project, his second and a small team of five were all in the know. Late Sunday night after the Facility had closed for the day the team, acting as if they were doing patrols, set a charge of explosives strategically. The intent was to have a lot of flash with very little bang. They weren’t trying to hurt people, but they wanted it to look like someone wanted to hurt people.

Monday morning, around 10am after people started to show for work, trainings, check-ups, etc. a loud explosion was heard that rocked the building. The Facility itself was not a new construct but rather a repurposed former military structure, it was old and probably out of code. So unbeknownst to those who set the explosives, there would be a lot more bang as the blast loosened a support beam and almost like a domino effect, ceilings started to collapse all over the place. By 10:30 most of the island was helping with the evacuation and rescue. Mutants used their powers to help, some people were trapped for days while the rubble was cleared. Air pockets were created in some instances to pass food and water, but risks came with the instability of some of the debris and the need to clear it out before people could be rescued. Even the teleporters didn’t want to risk disrupting some of the areas that weren’t as sturdy.

[Government Issued Bulletin]

[info]destructionmods
To All Mutant Residents:

In light of recent events, ALL mutant residents and staff will be issued new identification cards. Please report to The Facility no later than noon on February 15, 2018 to receive your new card. Those who turn in their old ID cards will receive an additional $100 in their monthly stipend for their cooperation. If you are no longer in possession of your ID card, you will be issued a new card at no penalty. If old ID cards are not returned/new ID cards not picked up by the 15th, new cards will be personally delivered via armed guard. One ID card per person, you may not return/retrieve ID cards belonging to others for any reason. If one refuses to accept their new ID card, they will be detained in the Facility indefinitely.

Due to excellent adherence and cooperation with the island-wide mutant curfew, that curfew has been extended to midnight, effective February 1, 2018. Terms of curfew remain the same: all mutants must be indoors daily by midnight and may not exit those buildings until sunrise. Guard patrols and additional, enhanced monitoring systems are now in effect. All mutant-run businesses must close by 11pm each evening to accomodate the extended curfew. Any mutant who is caught breaking curfew will be immediately detained for questioning and released at the discretion of the arresting guards.

Once again, thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping Destruction Island a safe and happy place for all.
