Remy stepped up near the fire where everyone should be able to see him. Raising his arms he waited for everyone to turn their attention on him and get quiet before speaking. “Good evening and welcome everyone. I want to thank you all for coming. Tonight we’re here to make a statement. A statement that we are all human. Mutants and not mutants alike. No matter our changes, our abilities, our different forms we are all human and we all deserve to be treated that way. None of us asked to be here, to be treated like sub-humans. No one deserves to be treated as less than what they are. We aren’t asking for special treatment. Exactly the opposite. We want equal treatment. We want to be free to live our lives. To have our careers, our families. I want to go to Disney World and wear glitter Mickey ears. I want to go to Mardi Gras and drink my ass off. And why shouldn’t we? I’m the only one who would pay for that hangover.”
He paused with a bit of a grin on his face before he got serious again. “Tonight we are united by what we have in common even more than what we don’t. We are united in our common interests. We're fighting for our right to live, to exist. To quote one of my favorite movies: We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!” Stepping forward he tossed his ID into the fire before looking up at the crowd again.
