There was immediate comfort in being wrapped up in his arms. There was no way she would ever be able to deny that, not even if she tried. Not even if put on trial before her family and told that lying would save her life. There was no chance. They'd never ask that of her anyway, not anymore. So she easily nestled in, breathing in as much as she could in that moment: the physical feel of him, the smell of him, his energy around her -that she gladly gave in to because it made her feel so secure...
His words were not as comforting, but that was more because she knew there was going to be a whole lot of explaining to do, things she didn't want to talk about ever, not to him ever, let alone now... and there was really no avoiding it now. How was she ever going to say what happened and why without dumping a whole lifetime of emotional baggage at his feet?
The lifetime being the entirety of the time they'd known each other. This was not simple at all.
Ninkasi sighed, “did you really think I was going to be able to fall asleep?” She took a deep breath before adding, “I tried, I did... for you. Because you wanted me to.” She sighed again. “But I kept listening to everything and then it got quiet and I thought you left,” everything in her chest went tight as she looked up at him, “and I panicked. So I gave up and came out here.”
That didn't really answer his question, though, did it?
“I'm not really hungry, but...” one hand gave up it's position and rubbed at her face. What did she need as opposed to want? If she'd lost a good deal of blood, iron... but later. The idea of meat or dark vegetables was nauseating right now. Hydrate, obviously, but what else... the last time she got into something like was so damn long ago in mortal years. “Water... and probably something salty to keep everything on a good keel until the idea of something substantial doesn't sound utterly disgusting.”
