That “why” was ominious on so many levels, Kratos wasn’t certain he could categorize them all. But this was about to go very, very, very badly. And he was no longer certain he could forstall the epic level of bad that was about to descend Which, of course, didn’t mean he wasn’t going to try.
Now that the Norse messenger was close enough, Kray simply shoved Bast at him, trusting him to be able to handle the Egyptian. Had he known that being restrained was an issue for the goddess, he would have found another way to arrest her attack, but he hadn’t known, so it was what it was. He would apologize later Right now, that desert goddess was not the one he needed to deal with.
With his arms free, he did something that was probably extremely stupid, but in his mind absolutely necessary. Kratos stepped forward, directly in front of Ninkasi, so that only he could be the focal point of her attention. Her seriously pissed off attention. He honestly wasn’t sure if he was going to die today or not, ,given the look in her eye. But it didn’t deter him from his path.
Reaching forward, he placed his hands on Ninkasi’s shoulders and bent to press his forehead to hers for the briefest of moments. “Why let me get the mortals out? Why? Because I asked it of you, and I have to be who I am.” He leaned back then to look her in the eye, not giving a hint of how disturbed he was at what he found there. “And you have to be who you are. I will not stop you from doing that, ‘Kasi. But I have to protect those that don’t deserve the backlash of what’s to come. I have to. You know that. You know me.”
With that, he stepped to the side in preparation of moving as many mortals out of the bar as possibly. At least those that were still upright. Those on the floor, he wasn’t certain he could save them from what Ninkasi had already done. He gave a small sigh, leaned over and pressed a kiss just below her ear and whispered. “I’ll see you when you’re done, when you’re ready to see me again. I’ll be waiting. I will always wait. I love you.”
And then he scooped three unconscious young men off the floor and headed for the door, calling out in a booming voice that the building needed to be evacuated immediately. It started a bit of a panic and soon many bodies were pushing for the front escape.
