Well, Well, Well... [tag: Hera]
The chase... was on.
It was a peculiar chase. It wasn't one he hadn't had to engage on in quite some time. Longer than he could recall, actually. But it was becoming necessary. It originally hadn't been necessary, it hadn't been necessary in centuries or even milleniea because he'd just grown so accustomed to it being there when he wanted it to be so that Zeus had been getting irritated at first.
Hera was avoiding him.
He was certain of it now. At first he thought perhaps she was just busy, had over-scheduled herself somehow and that in a week or so... perhaps a month... it would calm down. He had other entertainment to keep him busy outside his normal duties while she ran around doing this and that. They could convene and discuss things another time.
Except he would see her in the corridors and get a quick wave before she was off again without much of word or explanation... or an opportunity to even try to set dinner plans. At the moment when Zeus realized this was not Hera being busy, this was Hera avoiding him... as she always put the needs of the pantheon before other business and would be ready to go over any number of things with him, and suddenly did not have time to go over anything with him... was the moment the nymphs that had been hoping to entertain him were ordered out of his presence while he considered this new problem.
If he'd done something to anger her he would know about it. His Queen had never been one to keep her displeasure with him to herself in the past and that certainly had no reason to start now. She also didn't seem particularly curt in the odd moments he saw her in passing. So, the other option was that she was hiding something from him. But... what?
While asking Hermes to poke around and find out was the easiest option, Hermes would crumble if she caught and threatened him... and Zeus would not begrudge his son that at all. Besides, she needed to be caught just so that he had the option to talk to her and... get her back his bed. She was his wife and he'd not had the option for either in longer than he cared for. In order to catch the elusive woman that was clearly avoiding him, he was going to have to use his skill for chase to gain an advantage.
Zeus watched for patterns first, had the attendants alert him to about what times she did return after she had left so he could judge if there was any sort of regular activity to look out for. He equally watched for the same with Iris. Something was going on.
If he had this figured out, Hera would return shortly and he would wait patiently, silently and hidden in the shadow of a column just inside the entryway.
One of the attendants looked at him nervously. Zeus raised a finger to his mouth, leaning coolly against the marble, and shook his head. They were supposed to pretend they didn't know he was there. Right now, he wished they were more intelligent.
