The Beneficence of Beer (tag: Loki)
This was a bad idea.
He'd been repeating that to himself for the last week, since he'd made the decision. This was a really bad idea. There was an ache in his gut that told him that. There was a buzzing in his head that confirmed it. And there was an overwhelming sense of dread for what he was about to do.
This was a really bad idea.
But he'd gone ahead and asked Ninkasi for her help. Which, considering what he'd done the last time he'd been in her bar, he was surprised she gave. He shouldn't have been. She'd never been anything but a true friend. Which is more than he'd managed to accomplish. But she just said what she always said: “You break it, you fix it. You know where the tools are.” And he did. He had keys to both the back door and the utility room.
So, mid-morning, in the middle of the week, Thor let himself in to the Waters of Dilmun. He stuffed several very large denomation bills in a till that didn't have a cash drawer in it yet. The first bartender of the day would find it, along with the standard IOU. It wasn't a new thing, he'd done it before, they'd know what it was for: the beer he consumed while the bar was technically not open.
After pouring, and downing, three large mugs of the best stuff 'Kasi had on tap, he finally felt ready to do what he ought to have done long ago. A deep breath that came out on a sigh preceded the silent call that he sent out. “Loki. Chicago. Free beer.”
That should at least get his attention. Whether or not he'd respond, that was a different matter. Thor was half-hoping he wouldn't. Because really, this was a bad idea.
He poured another beer.
