Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

Okay, I admit it: I clicked on a Drudge ad. But it talked about a show bashing Christianity, so of course I looked.

  • Aaron Sorkin, the Hollywood liberal behind the West Wing and the new Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip continues his streak of using attacks on Christianity to begin his shows. Townhall.com writer Brent Bozell has the story saying, “maybe cursing out Christians is his show-opening good luck charm.” In addition to his attacks on Christianity, Aaron Sorkin is funding the liberals attempt to take over Congress and impose their radical agenda on America. Sorkin is contributing to dozens of Democrat candidates including Ted Kennedy and his online left-wing minions. Only you and conservatives like Ann Coulter, Hugh Hewitt, Thomas Sowell and the rest of Townhall.com’s over 100 conservative leaders stand in their way. Stop their liberal plans by joining the millions of Townhall.com conservatives now!

Okay, so what show is this? Let's go look.

    http://www.nbc.com/Studio_60_on_the_Sunset_Strip/about/ - doesn't tell me much.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_60_on_the_Sunset_Strip - this does, however!

Jordan McDeere (Amanda Peet) is the recently promoted president of fictional network NBS (National Broadcasting System) of which Studio 60 is the flagship show. She is described in the pilot script as an "instantly likable 30-something"[2] and "someone who every man's wife can find an irrational reason to hate." ... She is responsible for the immediate hiring of Danny and Matt, knowing of the pair's abrasive history with the show (and Jack), and instituted a policy of charging a 20% "cowardice fee" surcharge for advertisers who acquiesced to boycotts by the Christian right but came back after the boycotted show in question turned out to be successful.

Harriet Hayes (Sarah Paulson) is an "effortlessly sexy," "multi-talented"[2] performer and one of the "Big Three" main stars of Studio 60. Harriet is an evangelical Southern Baptist, recording a successful album and promoting it to a Christian audience on The 700 Club, the consequences of which was the charged ending of a romantic relationship with Matt. In the pilot, it is revealed that the pulled sketch that forced the breakdown of Wes Mendell was called "Crazy Christians" - despite this, Harriet stood by the sketch and its contents, demonstrating fierce loyalty to the show in the face of her beliefs, actually telling Tom in the pilot that she was upset about not being in the sketch, rather than being upset about the sketch itself. However, later in her confrontation with Matt she confessed to being upset about the sketch. She received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University. (Hayes may be partially based on West Wing alumna Kristin Chenoweth, whom Sorkin once dated. The character may [also or instead] be inspired by SNL alumna Victoria Jackson, a vocal Christian.[verification needed])

The Matt Albie-Harriet Hayes relationship is semi-based on Sorkin's relationship with Kristin Chenoweth, who played Annabeth Schott on The West Wing. In the first episode, it's explained that one of the reasons that Matt and Harriet broke up was because of Harriet choosing to appear on The 700 Club to support her album of Christian music. In 2005, Chenoweth made just such an appearance on The 700 Club, sparking a negative reaction from some of her gay fans because of the views of 700 Club host Pat Robertson.

Anyway, just a little something to be aware of, I think.
