Frederick's of Hollywood, fine, but we have SOME standards!

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]justjohn)

From a long-time correspondent on an email list I'm on:

At the company meeting two weeks ago, the president and founder announced,
among other new clients, Focus on the Family and Frederick's of Hollywood.
Simply because of this juxtaposition, I assumed he knew what both concerns
were about. I thought for a bit about whether I shouldn't quit by way of
protest (not against FoH, whose poor taste is a legacy, but against FoF,
where they want their poor taste to be legislation). I came to the
conclusion that I can't always afford to keep the ethics I would like--and
isn't that sad? Would you offer to quit over something like this?

So I was a bit surprised when this was mentioned in a meeting yesterday as a
company-wide issue, and to see email today from the president, including:

I understand that some of you are concerned about the recent signing of
Focus on the Family.

It is important to the management team to get your feedback directly. For
those of you who are concerned about M____ taking on this account, we
have set up a meeting / conference call to hear your concerns.

I have scheduled a call for this Friday (6/9) at 3:00pm. All employees are
welcome to join the call. Here is the call in information:

We certainly want to be sensitive and respectful of the views and beliefs
held by our employees as it relates to the accounts we take. I wanted to
make a few points specific to controversial accounts.

(1) No employee will ever be required to work on an account they are not
comfortable working on due to personal beliefs.

(2) The company is putting into place a policy on account categories it
deems to be unacceptable to do business with.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or anyone on the
executive management team.

This has so far not been my favorite workplace, but I must admit, this
message from the president makes me feel better about it. Details at 11.
