Another Threat to Virgil Goode's Values

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]dakiwiboid)

According to the "Reliable Source" column in the Washington Post, Representative-Elect Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, will be taking his oath of office tomorrow on the copy of the Koran that belonged to Thomas Jefferson.

Mr. Ellison contacted the rare book and special collections division of the Library of Congress early in December to request the use of the book. Mark Dimunation, chief of the division, who grew up in Ellison's district, was happy to help. This isn't the first historic book used for swearing-in ceremonies -- the Library has allowed VIPs to use rare Bibles for inaugurations and other special occasions.

The column says:

"One person unlikely to be swayed by the book's illustrious history is Goode, who released a letter two weeks ago objecting to Ellison's use of the Koran. "I believe that the overwhelming majority of voters in my district would prefer the use of the Bible," the Virginia Republican told Fox News, and then went on to warn about what he regards as the dangers of Muslims immigrating to the United States and Muslims gaining elective office.

Yeah, but what about a Koran that belonged to one of the greatest Virginians in history? Goode, who represents Jefferson's birthplace of Albemarle County, had no comment yesterday."

Five points if you can tell me the name of the Christian -ism or -ist group that , like Ann Coulter  believes that all environmental legislation is pagan blasphemy because the Christian diety said to take the earth and subdue it.

I've been doing net searches but I'm not coming up with anything.

Dominionists versus Muslim congressman

Hey, if you have a few free seconds, visit www.jacksonsun.com and take the poll on the front page. The question: "Is it OK for Muslim Congressman-elect Keith Ellison to use the Koran for his swearing-in ceremony?" The results are currently running 75 percent on the "No" column.

I'd never endorse stuffing a ballot box -- though I suspect others have, since you can vote once every five minutes or so.
